I have a question/recommendation for you tech savvy folks (looking at you Poppy). Is there a way or chance we could make a chatroom app for free flowing/instant communication. I imagine it would work something like Facebook Messenger. It'd be cool to be able to communicate with the good members of the forum in real time. Just a thought. What do y'all think?
I'm definitely not tech savvy, so this may be (is) an ignorant question, but how would that be different from what we do now?
Happy Thanksgiving to all who are celebrating today.
I am thankful For a loving wonderful husband 2 great daughters even though they kill me sometimes 3 adorable gran kids And a God who loves us and watches over us in spite of all the things Tommy has done! Lol. God Bless you Tommy.

Edit to ask: how do I add my name to the b-day list? Or could I just give you guys a headsup beforehand?
I don't see anyone had answered this, so just to let you know, if you have entered your correct birthday in your Profile, it will be listed in the birthday list on the home page and we will wish you a merry one.
Regarding the iPod dilemma, why do you only have to have one or the other? Why not both?

In a forum, postings are done in separated posts, the posts are recorded and stay in place, you can check past posts and answer them. A forum is basically not meant for a "conversation". A chat is a real time posting, a flow; people on the chat discuss and the posts are lining one after the other, no separation. There is no recording/archiving. You can see who is present and start a conversation. You cannot quote previously posted sentences. In fact, it is like you would join friends in a cafe and just talk.
Thanks Glenys, but actually I just have a photo of that painting, it is the property of another descendant of that young lady. And in fact, that whole family lived in the northern part of Germany, near the Baltic See, thus, this painting has probably survived many difficult times. That young girl was born in 1825 and died 1908. I wish we could travel in the past and meet all those who came before us and whom we owe our existence.
Have you investigated your family tree? At the level of the lady you posted you would be visiting with 32 of your direct ancestors. I do wish we could spend time with them to hear their personal stories. I believe we will one day. Wish I had been interested in family history while our direct ancestors were still alive. So many questions.
We have family trees for two branches from my mother mother's side and the one re the lady is huge. Going back to 1629! So i have her on the tree. On my mother's father side we also have the tree and my ancestors there are on wikipedia. de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilhelm_Kralik_von_Meyrswalden But is is in german. Maybe some of you have heard about Kralik glass, it was a famous glass manufacturer in Bohemia. This is where I come from.

This is so strange because I tried to answer this and couldn't find it when I returned. Very odd.
The answer is that Eternity's birthday is currently on the calendar for December. Birthdays are automatically added to the calendar when a member registers. We did have problems with that feature being erratic over the summer so went to investigate whether the problem had returned, came back couldn't find the post so thought she had found her birthday on the calendar.
Sorry Eternity, didn't mean to ignore your question.

Looked up the glass, very pretty. Do you have some of the pieces?
Translated the wiki page, very interesting reading - 18 children! Are you an ancestor from wife #1 or #2?

I am an ancestor from wife #1. And yes we have a few pieces but not in the style of Jugendstil which I do not like very much.

A chat room doesn't fit into the purpose of our forum, but thanks for the suggestion.

Ok so I know this is a complete change of subject. I'm not sure if we have any fellow riders in the group but I'd thought I'd post some pics of a little project of mine

And here is a lot of money, beer, smashed fingers, and curse words later
Thanks for looking. Hope y'all like

Decendant.....
It's ok we all know its Pixie's fault
The only folks of notoriety in my family line are General Robert E Lee and Nathaniel Hawthorne. Both are from my mother's side.
Sigh, yeah I do that a lot......
My family is just full of good dirt farming folks. Dad's side settled sections of New York. Direct descendant of the Lefevre's of New Paltz.
Hubby's side is the one with all the "good" stories. One man deserted his family, moved to another state to be a silver miner and was shot during a duel over a woman. Worked with another researcher to identify his unmarked grave and provide a headstone.
The best story is the one where grandpa deserted from the Navy and changed the family surname to cover his tracks. Re-enlisted, served his country during wartime and was given an honorable discharge.
Was warned by the elders of the family to consider very carefully before embarking on a family history research project. Sometimes you learn things you wish you didn't know.

Wow, that is quite the remod! Looks like the bikes you see built on the TV shows. Where's Tricia? She needs to see this. She really enjoys bikes and recently got a new one of her own.
Very wicked looking, strength oozes out of it. Did you do the tooling work on the fender and gas tank yourself?

I had some help on the tank due to not owning the equipment to make the bends even with all the exteme edges. The fender I was able to do myself. I modeled it after a Spartan helmet

You did an amazing job! Do you get many offers to buy it?

How true. Shortly after my dad died, I decided to do some family genealogy because I really knew nothing about my family. One of the things I learned was that my father had been married before he & my mom married. She admitted it, but would tell me absolutely nothing except it was a long time ago & he was young.
When you look at old pictures or portraits of members of your family who passed away a long time ago, they all look so serious, perfect citizen, husbands, wifes etc, giving the impression their lifes were just straight lines. But they were just humans, like you and me, with their weaknesses, temper etc. and i found it makes them so much more close learning all the little stories said about them. It changes the perspective, when looking to the pictures of grand pa, i just say hehe you were something of a character behind all that dignity on the picture, and great grand mother, dont take that offended look, i know what was said about you lol
