Great comments, Viviane. I wonder what future generations will think of our present day photos here in the U.S. as we all grin at the camera maniacally? We're evidently one happy group!
Hello Poppy, nice to see you Well, the next generation will maybe see that behing those grins/smiles, there must have been day to day lives which were not allways enchanted. But for sure, your next generation will remember the days of happiness at your place. Grand parents allways remain special. The older i get, the more often I think if my grand parents.
I saw a picture of my hubby's great grandfather on a post card saying welcome to Oklahoma. He was hanging from the rafters with 3 other men. His name was Jesse Jolly West. He was lynched and the last hanging like that in the Oklahoma territory. Looked him up on the Internet. The story there isn't the story my mother-in-law told. Feels weird to think about my sweet hubby coming from a family like that.
Photos of long gone generations were always with a serious face because of the long shutter times required. Holding the same smile, without moving would be quite difficult. As technology improved these times shortened to the quick shutter speeds we enjoy today.
My mom also said it was the way they were always instructed by their older family members. Could be a bit of both.

My goodness, what a story that is! We very seldom get the full story of our ancestors lives making it difficult to make judgements on them. Also different times, different ways of doing things. The mores of their days certainly aren't the mores of our times.
Gorgeous paint job, Corbus. That plate armor detail is phenomenal. If I had any money, the only toy I'd actually buy myself would be a bike. I don't need no boat (even though living in the Lakes Region, and having grown up on the Maine coast, and having an ancestor (Captain Thomas Perkins) who had a merchant ship during the French and Indian War, having his cargo approved and a letter of approval signed by Thomas Jefferson, and whose tombstone at the family plot says Lost at Sea), don't need fancy cars, or a big house, or tons of tools, or stereo/hi-fi/T.V. or anything like that ... but a bike. Sigh. Still, gorgeous bike, Corbus.

Thanks Tommy. You can get an import bike (Suzuki, Kawasaki, etc) for pretty cheap, especially used. Once the bug bites you, it's very addicting. I've been riding my whole life. I love the lifestyle. It's basically your modern day cowboy. Just being out in the elements, wind in your face, enjoying the ride
I'm pretty proud of the paint job and get a lot of comments on it. I was limited by the fact that I don't have a $500 paint gun so it took quite a bit of trial and error to get the right effects
The only folks of notoriety in my family line are General Robert E Lee and Nathaniel Hawthorne. Both are from my mother's side.
Sigh, yeah I do that a lot......
My family is just full of good dirt farming folks. Dad's side settled sections of New York. Direct descendant of the Lefevre's of New Paltz.
Hubby's side is the one with all the "good" stories. One man deserted his family, moved to another state to be a silver miner and was shot during a duel over a woman. Worked with another researcher to identify his unmarked grave and provide a headstone.
The best story is the one where grandpa deserted from the Navy and changed the family surname to cover his tracks. Re-enlisted, served his country during wartime and was given an honorable discharge.
Was warned by the elders of the family to consider very carefully before embarking on a family history research project. Sometimes you learn things you wish you didn't know.
I'm Australian. So naturally all my ancestors are criminals.
Ok so I know this is a complete change of subject. I'm not sure if we have any fellow riders in the group but I'd thought I'd post some pics of a little project of mine
The bike started as a 2008 Harley Rocker-C
And here is a lot of money, beer, smashed fingers, and curse words later
First snowfall in Ottawa overnight. We woke up to our first accumulation on the ground. Winter is here. And it'll be the worst winter in a long while, with no hockey in sight.

Edit to ask: how do I add my name to the b-day list? Or could I just give you guys a headsup beforehand?
I don't see anyone had answered this, so just to let you know, if you have entered your correct birthday in your Profile, it will be listed in the birthday list on the home page and we will wish you a merry one.
Regarding the iPod dilemma, why do you only have to have one or the other? Why not both?
Lol, and wouldnt that be nice! Wld make my decision easy...
Prob is that I would have to pay the 200+ again compared to 99...bleh
EDIT: opinions still needed. Thanks to those who helped.

I was about to say a similar thing! that's also why children are often blurry in old photos and eyes sometimes look strange because they had to be re-touched because you can't help but blink!

I can't watch hockey at all; not from the pub, or the arena, or the living room. The sadness is overwhelming, Pat. It's killing me!
I take it you aren't much inclined towards hockey?
Guys, i need help! Earlier while i was on DV on my phone, i had a dragon on a 24 hr quest and at the end of a race in a colloseum i got a notification saying I had just logged in on another device and that i had to reload. Since then, my game has had a game server internal error when i tried to put a dragon on a quest because it doesnt sense one in already until i select one. I just got a pop up saying my original dragon was back from his quest so i came to my park and cant collect the quest prize because it doesnt have the "quest finished" icon. Erm.. What do I do? I dont want to lose all my progress

I am the mother of three boys and spent the prime of my life freezing my a** off watching the game while my nose ran, my toes froze and I drank really bad arena hot chocolate. In the summer it was sweating at the soccer field, then football, then the unforgettable aroma of the basketball court. No, not a big fan of sports!

And then your boys have boys & you get to do it all over again with your grandchildren! The only part of grandchildren I'm not looking forward to....
