As another former World of Warcraft addict, let me try and shed some light about the arena.
From what I've seen so far, this is how it works:
As you know, you get to choose two bots, one main and a support one.
As the main one, you should choose a melee type and as support, a ranged bot.
A melee is a bot that is good on close combat, "hand to hand". It hits hard and can usually take some good hits before it dies, but has troubles attacking from afar.
A ranged bot, on the other hand, is much weaker, and will die easily if placed in the main role. It's strength it's either his ability to heal the other bot, like the repair does, or that he can actually do decent damage from afar.
So if you want to know which place to put your bots, and how to team them, pay attention to their attacks during the match...
It might be good to compile a list, so it's easier for everyone.

Here are some examples I've noticed:
Melee: builder,mine Ranged: repair, harvester
Anyway, hope this explanation helps someone

Cat, thank you so much for the explanation. This battling stuff is completely new to me but your write-up clears up the mystery of what on earth is going on.

Now if somebody can compile a list...
What type of list are you looking for? I would be happy to create something.
GCID - Casere I'm 83% certain that I am 100% safe to be around other people.
I'm in the process of creating a definitions and recommendations post. Please give me a couple of hours or so, and I should be able to create a simplified guide.
The guide will include a dictionary of gizmo terms and some brief suggestions.
If anyone has any other ideas or if you're in the process of creating something silimar, please let me know.

In the meantime, can someone explain what the red and green bars represent?
I really like your idea of a marker by the item you most want help with! Can I suggest using the Quadrillium as a marker, just because it is more colorful and would be easy to pick out while zoomed out. If it is not set next to a helpable item, it would mean you don't care what gets helped.
And now I've got both a BOOM Blaster and a Quadrillium next to my lab. I think this is a good idea.
Well my Quadrillium is next to my hatchery! (Hint, hint) x

The green bar is the health bar, when it's depleted the bot faints and gets removed from combat.
I'm still trying to figure out the red bar, but it seems some sort of power up, that increases with successful attacks and might increase the damage dealt when full, not sure about this one though.

Top bar is the health of your bot. The less bar equals less health.
Bottom bar is a charge rate which can increase damage. I'm still testing the bottom bar, but the rumor is that once the Red bar reaches capacity, you get a special charge hit on your opponent. I have not seen this, but I'll keep checking.
madzix beat me to it.
Also be aware that certain bots are more effective against other bots. Rather like opposite dragons in DV. Like FIRE versus COLD, FIRE would win; but WATER versus FIRE, WATER would win
Pixie - on pro boards this link takes me to a post from Fletch. I didn't see any table on the page . . . do I need to access it online? Or am I just being dense and totally missing something? Thanks.

Odd, that link takes me right to my own post. Weird. Should like like this -

If you add me, I'd happily speed it up! (unless it can't be sped-) I placed my Quadrillum next to my breeding grounds..
I did and you've accepted already!! Gee, you're quick!!! Dammit, I really need to get back to work now ... Please don't chatter too much before I can come back, takes me ages to get caught up!
To whoever asked the question - No! I just couldn't bring myself to leave the beautiful graphics of the Gizmonaut world.
So now I have questions, questions questions.
When friends are place the quadrillion marker next to what they would like speeded up, could they make sure it doesn't right in the middle of two things? I think it could have been Vivienne who had a marker in between the breeding thingy and a lump of grassy earth that was in the middle of being cleared. There was only a clock over the grassy mound, somthat's what I sped up. The marker is truly a brilliant idea.
Is it only possible to obtain the gizmos with crystals? I was rather hoping not to have to fork out for crystals as well as gems!
Oh how I wish I could plant some of those beautiful trees in my dragon parks.
Thanks to all the visitors who've sped up stuff for me. It's game is a great diversion from the temptation of losing my patience trying for that elusive Gold Oly.
Oh yes - another question. Many friends from my Dragonvale list turned up automatically in Gizmonauts - but not all by any means. Fletch isn't there, so I can't visit him. Perhaps he's just hiding behind a rock, hoping I'll go away so he doesn't have to let me in. Cecilia at the Duckpond
I've found gizmos from clearing items and from battles in the arena. There are a few that would be worth saving for.
Not sure what is going on with the friends. Might do the whole double tap on the home key/close all apps and look again. Hope they all turn up soon.
Finished my tour. Have noticed that i can in most places, speed up the breeding time but never the hatching timed. I seem to recall we could do this at lower level? Or is it that if there are more then 1"egg" we cannot speed up?
I think they changed the rules of the game. Don't think we can speed up the Baby Bot Station for our neighbors any more.
So what is everyone doing about the franken bot.... Are you breeding 1 or 2??? I have one but my second is proving elusive.... And then I think we can't guarantee breed them like we can with DV
Our others keeping a pair just in case or are you just sticking with one??
Bred 2 on purpose, got a 3rd by accident. Keeping them all as they are doing well in the arena and making good cash.

Yes, I now have the Baby Bot Blues (think Wedding Bell Blues by the 5th Dimension). I don't think that was a good idea on BFS' part to remove the Friend speed up for the Baby Bot Station.
