You seem to have many dragons left to fill, maybe it'd be helpful to see if you can do efficient combinations and breed for more then one dragon at a time!
I have heard that Bluefire-Crystal and Blazing-Mud are good combos that can result in different rares. What are the most efficient pairs?
If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all! ;-)

Let us know what dragons you are trying for. Let us know which of the following dragons you have : Paper, Panlong, Bloom, Sakura. And we'll do our best to make you a list.
It is a proven fact whining here does good things. Lol. Congrats on your topaz!!

It must be true, because I took miew's advice and my very next breeding is another Topaz (24 hours in my EBS). So after getting only 1 rare in 2 months, I just got 2 in row. I'm going to have to whine here more often!

That's so effective!
>Do that with all your rares, now!
(While i'm at it, i shall whine for my malachite and plasma dragons now. I must have went through 70 breedings for the malachite and only one so far And they're among the cheapest dragons to buy with gems! BFS, i see what you're doing there!)

The blazing-mud is a standard pair for the panglong dragon (Any pairs that have elements fire/air/water/earth will work in exactly the same way, so something like a lava/obsidian x fog/rain is fine too)
Who mentioned bluefire-crystal as a good pairing? I can't fathom that as a good breeding pair for anything. I can only think of the sun/moon as possible rares, but they only require lightning/cold. Offhand, crystals (24h), mountains(14h), and lavas(10h) are possible fails.
They don't even add the air element in it, so as to let you actually go for the olympus dragons at the same time... You're stuck with Earth/lightning/air anyway already for the olympus, adding the cold element for the sun/moon is fine. Earth/lightning/air/cold would allow you to shoot for the sun/moon, and olympus dragons. eg: crystal/quake x snow
As a general guideline, unless you're specifically breeding for crystals, or that the dragon combination require specifically requires lightning/earth, avoid mixing the elements lightning//earth together. Similarly, avoid fire/metal for the same reason. Namely, to avoid being slapped with a 24 hour breeding/incubation period. Not fun, and not ideal at all.
Depends.. personally I would prefer to combine olympus with other rares, i went for 4 elements that produced seasonal/olympus....
Also, don't bother breeding for a rainbow. Rainbows will come to annoy you soon enough.
Never have bred for a Rainbow, 4 on accident:/
I have 6 of them, i think. anddd a display egg.
But really, I wonder why opposite dragons are so rare. (for me anyway) I know it's not common, but all of them are so so elusive.... I mean, I find it much easier to breed most rares (except maybe the gold oly?.. or the emerald)

*waves* real beginner here. Not even level 9 yet (though close!)
I may have messed things up already. Hopefully not permanently! I've got 1 fire dragon, 2 earth dragons, and 2 plant dragons. I've been WAITING all night for my first breeding pair to incubate (Plant+earth). But then I've got to find a place to put the baby, right? Both my plant and earth habitats are Full! Maybe it will be fire based? (yeah, right)
What dragons should I be going for to even be thinking about a "rare"?

Hi Von,
Welcome to the forum. And great question!
Because you didn't include a Fire element in the breeding, the egg you get cannot be a fire hybrid. Earth+Plant could be a Moss or a Tree Dragon. Congrats on your first breeding.
Based on the info you provided, you haven't messed anything up. Fell free to sell an Earth or Plant dragon to make room for your baby. I recall having to sell and re-buy dragons quite a lot in the early stages. Thank goodness Fire/Plant/Earth dragons are pretty cheap.
There's no formal strategy you can take up to increase your chances of getting a rare dragon. That'll happen on its own. Maybe as you get into the 20s we can help you with specific combinations. But at this point, just focus on leveling and expanding. Focus on completing your goals, which are designed to help you level and achieve things in a logical order.
Welcome aboard, and let us know if you have other questions.

Thank you for the hint that following the goals is a sensible strategy at this point.
I guess I was trying to figure out which dragon to breed. Because I use the sandbox and all combinations of fire/earth/plant have no rares as even a possibility. Then when I put in tree, poison, moss, etc -- the ones I get out of it. I get the same assortment of children. Nothing new. So I don't see a path that leads to a dragon that might have a rare.
I'll level up more and see if the game gives me new stuff.

Good job using the sandbox. It's a great resource.
As you level up, you'll get access to new element types (I think Lightning will be next for you, then Cold, then Water, and so on). With new element types, you'll unlock new possible hybrids, and a chance at some rare/epic dragons.
