Getting Lightning seems to open the flood doors on the cash problem (at least for now)
Lightning + Plant gave me several nice 100K bonuses to my bank. And with a 30m breed time, Cactus is my money-making friend!
I also got the opportunity to buy Moon/Sun Habitats and the Gemstone Island.
Does the Gemstone Island count against your max # of habitats?
Is there any sort of strategy in deciding which dragons to keep, which to level beyond level 5 (where the food starts being a bit painful). And what order to feed them if you don't have enough to keep them all fed?
And BTW, rocks that cost $100K and $250K to clear? Still too painful for my blood. (Esp because when I decided to spend the $100K, it STILL wouldn't let me -- said I had to be lvl 13!)
I friended you myke, but my ipod is crashing every time I try to go to your island It has the same problem with my other lvl 40 friend. Hopefully they will fix this before I get that high in level!
As far as keeping dragons, I keep at least one of each (two of each if I have habitat room/storage), then fill out extra habitat slots with the top money earners (e.g. quake for my earth habitats). For feeding, I tended to prioritize feeding dragons in habitats which can hold more money (so earth, then cold, then fire, then lightning, then plant). It also is useful to level up one dragon of each type (hybrids count as two types) for the Coliseum.
For the shrines, it is best not to sell any dragons that you have leveled up until they are 10 and you've built the appropriate shrine for them

+1
I keep 1 of each out on display. I also keep an extra in my cave incase I need to pull an extra out for breeding new releases. Until you get to epics, always put anything you can in the earth hab since it can hold the most gold compared to other basic habitats. Since the plant hab holds the least amount of gold, I only keep the plant dragon there. This helps max out your gold earning potential when you're not in game. As stated before, try to avoid selling any dragon before it reaches level 10 to help you advance your shrines which increase the max level of your dragons. It takes about 10k food to take a dragon from level 1-10. Hope this helps. koala!
Another thing that becomes annoying as you advance and collect a lot of dragons is finding the one you're looking for when breeding, competing in the coliseum, etc. What I came up with (I'm sure I'm not the only one) is to name my dragons what they are. My fog dragon is named Fog instead of Fluffy or whatnot. This makes finding the dragon you want in the list much more efficient. Some dragons have too many characters to fit but you just abbreviate in way that makes sense for you. This definitely isn't required but I've found it helpful.

For newcomers coming after me -- but the Lightning Habitat and Lightning Dragon BEFORE you buy the Coliseum.
Once you have Lightning, you can breed Lightning + Plant together and the 30 min (and seemingly most common) baby is the Cactus, worth 100K each! So a coliseum will become EASY to acquire afterward.
And I've bred two LONG baby dragons now.
The first, 24 H, I believe is Crystal. (Earth the Lightning)
From Lichen and Fire I've got a 10H breeding that I believe is Evergreen.
I have a couple of questions about the habitat boosts. 1. Say you have 2 metal habitats. Do you need 1 boost per, or will 1 boost work for both? 2. Regarding the bonus/penalty. Do getting opposing boosts cancel each other out? For example, the Metal Boost's benefit is +20%, with a -20% penalty on the Plant Habitat. If I turn around a buy a Plant Boost, which is +20% to Plant and -20% to Metal, wouldn't it be a wash? What's the benefit then?

Re #1: boosts work on a per-island. Technically, the boosts don't affect habitats, but the dragons inside them. Let's imagine you have an empty island. Put an Earth habitat on it. Put a Panlong Dragon inside that habitat. Panlong's have Earth, Fire, Water and Air as their elements. Put a Fire and a Water boost on the island, and your Panlong is now double boosted. Note that we are using Fire and Water boosts for a dragon in an Earth habitat. We aren't using an Earth boost. Why? Oh, because Air is the opposite of Earth. See #2.
Re #2: all boosts are cumulative, even opposite boosts. One boost = +20%. Two boosts = +44% (the extra 4% comes from boosting the original boost). Consequently, opposite boosts = -4%.
You can only have 1 of each boost in your park. So their placement on your islands, what they boost and what they penalize is a lot of fun to figure out.... if you are into mix/maxing
Is that clear? Let me know if I muddled anything up with my explanation.

LOL, clear as mud! I'm level 19 with 3 islands (plus a Gemstone Island) and have much to learn. All the information and variations out there is a bit of an overload for my brain, so I'm trying to just do things 1 step at a time. It does help to know that the boosts are island-based, not habitat based. Didn't even stop to think about the "mixed breed" dragons. Thank you!

I think the placement of boosts is one of the hardest and complex parts of the game. Good plan to take it a step at a time. There are some good minds here to help you if you need it.
Is there an advantage to having either the Upgraded Breeding Cave over the Epic Breeding Island? Other than one being an island, what's the difference?

Hi alphat,
The Epic Breeding Island gives you a higher percent chance at rare dragons. Upgrading the caves speed up the times by a certain percent.
I think that the Island gives something around a 5% chance. I forget though; but these are the only big differences.

Hey alphat
Eternity's right, the island does give you a slightly larger chance of breeding epics and limiteds. The best thing about it is that it allows you to breed two pairs of dragons at one time.
The upgraded cave breeds dragons 20% faster.
I would personally advise getting the island first, and upgrading your cave later, but it's your choice.

As they've said, there is a % increase for limited and rare dragons in the Breeding Island. It changes depending on the dragon, oh and it doesn't see to affect Rainbow, which has about 1% chance in both places.
