A quick look at the sandbox, Topaz and Turquiose like pretty good for short fails and no super long fails.
(Looking forward to Bloodstone's expert advice)
Yes but already have those two come on Bloodstone we need your sage wisdom!
My plan of attack is to go for the missing ones, from March backwards, as these are the ones that I will have to wait longest for. The first one is Turquoise.
Kindle park1: nearly all dragons are frolicking in their habitats! (A Thorny little problem to resolve...)
Smartphone park2: Geode, a dragon with rocks in! Still to breed 4 dragons...

My strategy at the moment is PANIC then use gems and no sleep is that a plan or PANIC
Yes, the sandbox is a really practical tool, but for some reason I always forget about it XD
Hi seeleycat, I do check the sandbox but don't see all the gemstones listed..maybe I'm missing something?
Maybe the sandbox wasn't updated when you checked it? It is now, I just visited it. If it happens again you can just click the "Bring 'Em Back mode" button, and it will pretend that all dragons are currently available, regardless of whether they actually are or not.

Despite having a Sapphire, BFS goals tell me I need a Sapphire. So, I'm breeding for it - need to knock out that goal. Had them all cleared until the new rares came to the market and this mini-BeB. Also breeding for my Opal display egg. If I get those over this weekend - which I doubt because the RNG *hates* me with a searing dragon-breath passion - I'll be a most happy camper. But, I'm also afraid that will nip into my time for a Sprout egg.
And since I'm a gem hoarder...oh, this doesn't bode well for me at all.
If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all/Gloom, despair, and agony on me... {HeeHaw, 1970s - totally showing my age)

Go to the second tab for combo finder, and there is an option that you can click for BeB. Since these dragons aren't normally available now, you have to choose that option until robotron has a chance to update.
I love my vine dragon avatar created by ElektronX. Now, if only BFS would add it to the game...

What do you recommend as the best short fail gem dragons ie to give us most chances in 72 hours
That's really going to depend on what you have already...
I probably wouldn't bother with Jade since it's sticking around for three months anyhow. Emerald is here for 15 more days and then Pearl shows up, so those would probably be low priority in general.
Topaz has the lowest average fail time of them all, followed by Turquoise, Jade, Jet, Pearl, Amethyst, Opal, Peridot/Garnet.
However, Topaz, Turquoise, Opal, and Garnet all have fails off 14 hours or less.
All the rest have 22+ hour fails, so that could get expensive. In fact, in terms of WORST average fail times, the list goes Lapis, Ruby, Diamond, Amber, Emerald, Sapphire and Aquamarine.
Finally, if you also want to work on some of the new Golden Hybrids, you could try:
Arctic: Aquamarine, Sapphire, Amber, Emerald Orchid: Pearl Sulfur: Ruby
(nothing for Wisp or Nectar right now since they use Dark and Light elements)

Anyone notice that you can now buy a gemstone habitat for 150 gems? I'm guessing its only available this weekend.
I was tempted for a minute...until I realized that it would take 75 weeks to pay for itself. I think the habitat space would be better used for other things. I've got one gemstone habitat and a fully upgraded island. I'll stick with that and save my other habitats for the numerous epics and hybrids that continue to pop up.

Nope, I didn't tell her. Partly because I didn't think I would need to tell her. I was right. She dropped by to visit and saw the news. This "comeback" right after lapis left early makes me wonder a lot of things....
And by early I mean that last year jade came out on the 17th I believe, and lapis was introduced extremely late. Thus we had about 2 months for a 3 month gemstone.
I did check in to see if there were any good-bye messages. Thank you for the kind words. While reading the messages, I saw that the gemstone dragons were back in the market. I hadn't decided if I would try for it or not, but my son took my phone and bred and got a Lapis first try (last time he bred for me he got an Oly). I spent the day digging a flower bed, while trying to decide if I would come back or not. My husband quit when I did, so together we decided to stick with DV awhile longer. After all, what are the odds of having a dragon that I have to breed 153 times for, especially with Crystal and Olys as fails. Anything else should seem easy in comparison. I guess it is back to trying for Sprout. Thank you again for all the kind words.
I have also decide to change my avatar back to Spring. Springtime is just too beautiful and I've been out enjoying it a lot this week (actually digging weeds, but still enjoying it)

So glad to see that you and yours will be hanging around a little longer. Hopefully we can both entice that stubborn Sprout to our park soon.
Thanks shernea. I really hope you get yours soon! I definitely understand the frustration of repeated attempts for something. I actually already have two. I would like the egg and a few more, but I'll see what happens.

I don't see any indication it's limited.
For the record, it's also an ever so slightly different design from the Easter Gemstone Habitat... so alas I MUST have one...
I definitely hope it's not limited, but I just purchased one to stow anyway. With a total of 17 gemstone dragons, if I want to display an adult and a baby for each that'll be 34 dragons. Each gemstone habitat only holding two dragons would mean that I'd need SEVEN of them just to hold 14 dragons. I do not like those numbers...
GCID: rionhow Thanks to ElektronX for my Light Rift avatar!
At first I was lukewarm about the Gem BEB event. Such a short time to get what are usually hard to get dragons. But Gem dragons are the only ones I don't have two of - I have only one of ten of them. I thought it might be fun to have another longterm goal, so I figured what the heck, might as well take a shot. To my surprise I have gotten an Amethyst and a Garnet. So, eight to go. Hopefully there will be more of these BEBs.
My success makes me wonder if BFS increases the breeding odds during the special events,

I always hope for 2 of each dragon but can't sort out where I will put them all?
I am focusing on the Months I didn't succeed getting the gemstone Dragons that are several months away to give it a 3rd go. ( like December's Turquoise) but am also excited to see that the decorations have came back to the market. Many beautiful items available and with my tower upgraded I can hold more items. I don't know how, but I managed to cram 99 bushes in 1 slot of the tower! And just when I thought I would get into the billionaire's club, BFS puts all those Jewels in the market, tempting me to spend. Ohh well, time to shop!
Koala to all in the Gemstone Event!

Great information that seemed worth repeating with a bump.

You mean sort of like opening the flood gates a little wider?
