Any one else having problems getting in? I played when it first started and now it kicks me off every time before it even starts trying to open. I have force closed and shut down iPad and done everything I can think of.
No trouble here, but I know others have said they're experiencing significant lag. Try emailing them at support@backflipstudios.com or submit a help request via this link: support.backflipstudios.com/home

Is there a basics post somewhere for people who are on their first event? What is all this doubles and holding stuff? Man, I knew everything about this game when I uninstalled it back in 2013 or whatever it was
The matching game is quite tricky, i did the first round included in the presentation of the event. Later on, i did a second game which ended abruptly after a few matches when i made an error. And then it told me to come back tomorrow! Did not even have a chance to try the wheel! So i do not understand how this is supposed to be played.
When I played the matching game, I quickly sketched a grid on a piece of paper, then wrote in the values of the cards I turned over as I played - that way all errors can be avoided.

I'm not really understanding the unlocking of prizes. My Lilac section says 9/10 and my Lotus section says 9/15. Lilac shows 5 prizes in it (all locked). Lotus only has 3 prizes in it (all locked). As we purchase prizes, does it just unlock what I can see, or do other prizes appear? Someone said yesterday that there is a new island theme with this event, but I don't see one in the prizes that are there now.

Sounds like prizes would just unlock. iTunes update description doesn't mention Valentine island theme, it mentions Valentine themed decorations, which are already in prize tent. The update description does however mention a limited surprise dragon which should appear as a prize later
Ugh. My game is lagging badly on my iphone 5. I found the weather station and turned the roses off, but it is still struggling.
I DID switch the Tower back to daylight. If the rose petals give me problems I'll turn them off as well. But I've noted that the rose theme has a way of slowing things.
My game is lagging quite a bit as well, at least I cleared out a lot of my twins yesterday in preparation for the event, otherwise it would probably be worse.

The Rose background and Rose theme each cause lag. There's a few backgrounds/theme that cause lag. I have emailed BFS about it and their response was that it was an issue with older devices & RAM, but it only occurs with certain backgrounds and themes. I think the Night, Spooky, and Daybreak work just fine. Does anyone have an insight on why certain backgrounds wouldn't cause lag and others would?

Are you sure you had not run out of turns? I made some mistakes but the game kept letting me continue try matches until my 10 tries were done.
To further clarify this, because I was also confused as to how many games I was able to play:
You have 10 total tries for both games. For example, if you play the matching game till you have 5 tries left, you can spin the wheel 5 times; if you play the matching game till you have 9 tries left, you can spin the wheel 1 time.
So I think theoretically, you could play the matching game as much as you want if you are super super lucky... I think.
Does anyone know if it's possible to breed past dragons (Rose/Thorn/Love) that are in the prize shop using past possible breeding combinations now? or is it only possible to currently get them spending roses if we don't already have one?

They keep trying to find ways to gate or force tickets early and require gem purchases. Prolly cause we figured out how to bank tickets. At least this time half the dragons won't be unavailable at the end when you have the tickets

There's also the Omnitat, which makes 10. And then you can buy the habitat (+1), Serenity (+1), and Ire (+1), then get the pedestals by breeding them together or in co-op (+2).
So it's theoretically possible to unlock all tiers without buying any junk... if you're a super-endgame player.

I know others have had this issue ,but can't remember what to do. My friends have all disappeared. I have tried turning on and off and went to gamecenter and they aren't there either. It does however have my gamecenter name,but lists no games under it

The usual cause for friends disappearing is if your friends have upgraded and you haven't or vice versa. However this wouldn't affect the list in game centre. It could be an Internet issue between you and the game centre servers. You could try logging out of game centre and back in. Also check for an upgrade to either DV or iOS that you haven't applied yet.
EDIT: Quite counter-intuitively, you log out of GC in the settings app not the GC app.
