I just tapped on Noel and he said something about the Surface folk. Are they going to try to tie DV and DV World together some how?
I sure hope not because whenever I try to download DV World I am told my device is not compatible with this version. It's the only version I can find so no DV World for me. I hope tying the two together, if indeed that is what happens, doesn't make DV unplayable for me. No point in worrying just yet though.
I feel like they have to do SOMETHING though. I mean, right now we're still working on Golden Hybrids, so I wouldn't expect a new element to show up anytime soon, but maybe they're setting things up for the future. They keep adding different classes of Epic dragons, and I feel like they could probably expand the number of dragons in each class a bit more, but they'll have to set the stage for enough new content to keep people breeding for awhile yet. Sometimes I wonder if they'll run out of ideas at some point...
Well it is a (almost) 6 year old game, but i am sure they will come up with something cool. (thinking winter olympics..oh yeeeee) It is only a small percentage of players that has all the dragons, and even a smaller percentage that have all pedestals aswell. Let's us not talk about complete sets of twins...
But i guess for people that have been playing a long time, to keep them interested they have to come up with new ideas. I for one am not bored yet as i still have to level all the dragons to lvl 20.
I do have the feeling they are scraping for money as the budget gem deals has been there for 6x in the last 2 months. Maybe that is just me
I don't quite understand the business philosophy of the last event. As it was impossible to breed the new dragons there was nothing to do with gems for those of us who have all the dragons and pedestals. My gem count went from under 600 to almost 3,000 during the event - seems like that's going to be expensive for BFS as I won't be buying gems for a long time.
My goal is to have a level 20 adult and baby of each dragon. So it's frustrating not to be able to breed the new ones. Not quite sure what BFS's thinking is on this one.

Thanks, Lattelover ! Now that I'm looking at it I might make one change. I started at the bottom with Dark (primordial ooze kind of vibe), then Fire, up to Metal. Looking at it I think I will switch Water and Earth. Water above Earth would make more sense to have Plant next. I'm probably overthinking this!
Thanks for posting those pics and explaining the method to your madness 🌹 I think you deserve a special award for Best Use of Fancy Lamps throughout your park. 🏆
So sweet, thanks! I should have also mentioned that I first started with one horizontal and one vertical line of black jellies to find the exact center of the island.
Noel could be sending us through the wormhole with no way back. On the gripping hand, it was Roger (not Noel) that got stuck on the other side. One wonders how that happened, and I am sure the story will be fascinating.
The plot thickens. Just tapped Noel who said "Have you seen the new Rift Gate? We've got a wizard who volunteered to stabilize it from the other side. Well, he didn't so much volunteer as he did get trapped. But don't worry, we'll get him out! I think.."
Let's hope Roger has a better outcome than Charlie on the M.T.A.
Remember years ago when I suggested to BFS that they create an alternate universe park for each player where you could display your Twins. I suggested adding a clickable button to your park which would take you to your other park. All kinds of possible decorating scenarios available then - regular world/twin world, light world/dark world, sun world/moon world, etc. Do you think they took my suggestion and we will access our alternate universe park through our Rift Gate?

Only veteran players (read: people who have most or almost all dragons) have the increase of gems when not being able to breed. They are not inclined to buy more gems or magic as they will have to dragons to breed them anyway during the BEB event.
I think the gem sale thing is mostly targetted at newer players who are feeling overwhelmed with dragons during the event and have the pokemon fever and want to have them all asap. And YES, it is very frustrating not being able to breed during this event.
just my 2 cents.
I am still very intrigued what the rift will be when it is made whole again .

Administrator , I think what rideau35 said is very true, and then some. Having played this game for so long we are a unique sub-set of players. The average player does not have the longevity we do, and they get bored of the same old thing very quickly and move on to the next game. That's quite different than the users represented here and on other sites.
When it comes to other games, I've played a metric ton of them. Being a gamer at heart and having kids has created a constant introduction to what they are playing, which seems to change by the week / month. One thing I've noticed as I've played game after game after game is that the items you earn go on sale regularly. I'm sure this is formulated and occurs like clockwork to generate revenue as people see "a deal." Our group of old fogies just doesn't need to add to our stash of gems due to the size of the stash and the limited need. When I first started playing and had more dragons yet to go than safely in my park that was a very, very different story and every sale was tempting
On a side note, the 2nd most played game for me is Township - another city builder. They introduced the Zoo, a separate area to collect, as an addition. But the smarted change they made, IMHO, is the introduction of mini events you enter where you play other games: Fishing, flying, etc., which is a HUGE change from normal game play and allows them to have all kinds of other games included in the main game. This keeps it fresh, and I see in the kids an on-going interest that the events in DV are not keeping for my kids. They're just too similar each time...
For me, I'm good w/ DV. But as seen with my kids, there are others out there that have extremely short attention spans very different play styles.

Portent is back! Also on sale for 900 gems for the next 24 hours so for someone who doesn't have it, this could be the prime opportunity to pick it up if you want to mass produce them!

This is really interesting, because I used to play Township, and I think that one of the reasons I quit (besides it becoming too much with DV and other games too) was that I was getting bored of the same old thing. At that time there wasn't any seasonal events or interesting stuff to look forward to, none of the games you mentioned, and I just got tired of it. I think that's pretty common.
With this event, I'm feeling the same with Dragonvale. However, I think the reason is that instead of any consistency, DV tries out too many events and we never get the repeats that I look forward to. I was actually wanting the Faire again, not a Rift event, and considering the execution of it, was really unhappy overall with it. We had one year of the Faire. The next year was the Pentournament instead. I don't mind surprises like the Rift thing IF there was a bit more consistency in the events to establish a pattern first, but I think they should have decided which event to continue, Pentournament or Faire, and then done one more year of it before changing it up with the Rift thing.
As a side note, I think that in this community there are a lot of us long-term players who started at (or close to) the beginning, so it's easy to forget just HOW OVERWHELMING it is for a new player. I know I forget that and should probably be a bit more understanding of how BFS has to juggle new and old players and are trying to keep everyone happy, and give them credit where it's due for their efforts! (So go BFS! Sorry I've been so negative this whole event!)

So, picked up a double xp for 3 days gift. If I wait (well, I will wait) I wonder if this can be popped with the other 3 day double xp gift from the last time? Will doing that give me 2x XP (no effect), 3x XP (the original plus 100% plus another 100%) or a whopping 4x XP (the double double!)!
Optimist in me says 4x Realist in me says 3x Pessimist in me says 2x Defeatist in me says 1x and the game exits at second click and has to be re-installed

I think both Poppy and rideau35 make good points that are not mutually exclusive. I too am not sure what was the business philosophy of the last event. It made little sense to remove the possibility of breeding anything during the event. That may have long term effects as far as older players not using up gems during event induced breeding frenzies and now have tons of gems with nothing much to spend them on. It seems to me that events are ideal opportunities for BFS to tap out older players who have everything and miss the daily opportunity to breed dragons and love to spend gems speeding up trying to breed new dragons during events. It does not make sense to remove one of the few opportunities for older players to cough up gems at an alarming rate. It certainly makes sense to have gem sales during events as new players will need them but so would older players if BFS makes breeding some of the event dragons a possibility. Not sure what was behind the decisions not to do that. I guess BFS was trying to get people to spend money on magic, which certainly makes sense and hopefully plenty of people did just that. However, I think there could have been a more balanced approach that would have made everyone happier and also would have been more financially lucrative. Especially if one takes in the big picture.
On a similar but different note, I agree with Euronuter and Scarreddragon that longevity in the casual game genre is a bit of a rarity. There is always the next big thing to try. Certainly kids want to be playing the IT game. But they also want to have fun and not be bored. Tastes and mileage vary with the individual I guess. Maybe the older generation is less likely to be distracted by the next shiny object but they are no less likely to wander away when bored.
Happily I have yet to grow bored with Dragonvale. It might be because there was a 9 month period when I was unable to get into DV and could not play at all. I had pretty much given up on ever being able to enjoy the game again. It was a very happy surprise when I was able to play again. But I always worry that it could happen to me again. Although I don't seem to be as worried as I used to be...so that says something. I'm not bored, but I am a tad disenchanted. But just a tad. And I still play every day. There are still some pedestals and twins to collect as well as this events dragons. This event was not my favorite but I still enjoyed it. However time changes everything and I guess it is impossible to be as enamored as I once was. But I'm still enamored enough. And I too wish to give BFS credit for trying to juggle the wants and needs of new and old players and for their effort to keep this game fresh.
I have almost 7000 gems sitting in my bank, and I actually never, ever paid real $ for gems. There is zero incentive for me to spend them. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I would like to see more island themes and decorations for gem. We have not had new decorations outside events for a long time, whereas in the past they come with a lot of the new limited dragon release (remember one special decor for each gem dragon? Where is the equivalent for crystal dragons?). With so many more island to decorate, I'm desperate for varieties.

A lot of good suggestions above. I too am a long term player, and I have spent money on the game because I REALLY enjoy it. I would spend gems on island themes too.
For me the game is still challenging because I am belatedly trying to be a N/A and get a twin of each dragon. Why o why didn't I start earlier?
What would get me to spend more $$$? ... if event currency was cheaper I would buy more of it. Sounds like a paradox, doesn't it? I want to buy more of those Mystery Eggs to get more twin dragons, but not when they each cost $8 Aussie buckaroonies ( I think that was the AU-Mystery Egg exchange rate (my memory is hazy)).
-=yingying=-, well done on 7k gems! I am 'only' on 4k since I keep on speeding up twin fails in my efforts to get a twin of each gemstone:-)
Shoutout to !!Cyn!! and the rest of the twin gemstoners.

That's what I'm thinking is that the gate will open into an alternate universe, but in the new world there will be nothing but rift dragons and rift hybrids.
My theory is that since they gave us plant, metal, fire, etc. in rift form that we'll soon be able to breed them to make hybirds. In other words, the gate will be like a breeding area/alternate universe, and they'll start releasing things like Forest Rift and Glass Rift, and probably some new rift hybrids and rift epics that haven't been seen before.
I'm thinking it'll be a completely rift version of DragonVale. Which is great because they could keep making new rift hybrids for years to keep the game new and interesting.

This idea I like! It's not TOO much extra effort for BFS, gives old players something to strive for in addition to twins, and could result in some... interesting... dragons. Dream Rift? Leap Year Rift? KAIROS RIFT?!?

Elysium on sale for 300 gems. I'm considering buying one after hearing what a headache it is to breed. Especially after the thousands of gems I saved up during this event with nothing to breed for months.

It was only 2 days ago when I was thinking to myself only if Elysium would get the 90% off deal. When I saw this deal, I instantly bought it! Now if it was 75% off then I wouldn't of. Seems like their alternating 75% and 90% for the dream dragons.

I just broke down and bought Elysium for my small park, because I had gems to spare It's gorgeous!
