Lazuli
1. 5 2. 5 - beautiful! 3. 3 - I think it is the smallest treasure dragon - I really have to look to find it. It may get a habitat of its very own on a less populated island 4. 4 - because of being a limited epic - but the breeding times are long 5. 5 - sea creature. 6. 5 7. 5 8. An event based on sea creatures would be great if the designs imitate this one
Lazuli 1. 3 - haven't noticed anything amazing 2. 5 - I got an Earth rifted one and it is subtle (I find Earth one of the ugliest rift traits) 3. 4 - seems OK 4. 4 - OK 5. 3 - not quite sure of link 6. 5 - quite an intricate dragon with colouration and so on 7. 4 - pretty dragon
1. 5 2. 5 3. 5 4. 5 5. 3 6. 5 7. 5 I love this one, nice idea beautifully done. My only quibble is with the name, Lazuli is the name of a blue mineral, not a sea creature. But that's okay, still love it.

1. Animation quality - 4 (Very fluid and graceful, though the animation that shows 4 seconds in on the video is kind of goofy) 2. Trait placement - 5 (nice and subtle) 3. Size - 4 (Since it's based on the glaucus atlanticus, it kinda makes sense for it to be small, but a little bigger would be nice in my opinion) 4. Price - 3 5. Theming - 3 (It's like pirate treasure, but it really isn't that pirate-y. 6. Attention to detail - 5 7. How much I like it - 3 (It's not bad, just not quite my cup of tea.) 8. It looks out of place in a treasure habitat, which makes me glad it's also water-element. I'd like it better if it could match its epic habitat though. Also, lazuli's breeding combo of scarab x bronze makes no sense with its design.
4/5 I don't exactly like this dragon design wise, but the animations match what it is.
2. How would you rate Lazuli’s Rift trait placement and look (the fire trait is showing in the above video)
3/5 Rift trait placement can be hard. I tend to enjoy the chaotic ones more, like the gold dragon. The changed spots look nice and all, but I'm here for the chaos designs.
3. Please rate Lazuli’s size (you may want to check how Lazuli’s size compares to other dragons in your park; if you don’t own Lazuli, check a friend’s park)
4. Rate Lazuli’s price (13,000 Doubloons)
2/5 I get these are breedable but if you are behind in the event as is, and then fail to breed the weekly rotating dragon, that's 13k out your pocket. Not to mention that if you fail to breed this limited dragon that means you spent a week trying (and failing) to breed this limited dragon, and couldn't breed the other dragons you are behind on. On top of the crushing feeling of being behind, you are now out 13k doubloons. Even if you wanted to spend some cash to buy doubloons, you get very little per usd, even on double weekends.
5. How well does Lazuli fit the theme of the event?
2/5, not very pirate-y to me. Water is related to pirates yes, but this feels way more mythical beast like to me than pirate themed.
6. Rate the attention to detail in Lazuli’s design
3/5 It's pretty. But very hard to see how pretty is actually is. Small for how detailed it is.
7. How much do you like Lazuli? (1 = I hate it, 5 = I love it!)
2/5 I don't enjoy this dragon. It just doesn't do it for me, but I can appreciate the work that went into it.

1. Animation: 3 2. Rift trait: 3 3. Size: 3 4. Price: 4 5. How well does Trove fit the theme: 3 6. Design details: 4 7. How much do you like Lazuli: 5 8. Comments/feedback: though the dragon is a bit small, has no spectacular animation and doesn't fit the theme well, it's a favourite of mine. Especially after seeing the link to glaucus atlanticus, also called the BLUE DRAGON!
dragon list (last dragon : Gatren) DV friend id: Crumble#7733 friend link coop friends always welcome, but all my gems are spoken for
1. Animation quality 4 2. Rift trait placement and look 5 3. Lazuli’s size 3 4. Lazuli’s price 3 5. Fit the theme 5 6. Attention to detail 5 7. Like Lazuli? 5 8. Animation quality is good, but it is so high off the habitat and island that it kind of gets lost. Wish this dragon was a little bigger! So much nice detail, but it's so small that everything gets lost. And of course pirates want to collect lapis lazuli - especially in dragon form - although I'm sure that makes it harder to store in treasure chests with all the floating and flying.
Lazuli Please rate on a scale of 1 to 5. 1 = worst, 5 = best. 1. 5 (animation quality) 2. 5 This rift placement has been done beautifully, very elegant. (rift trait placement and look) 3. 3.5 I would have liked it to be bigger. It’s so gorgeous, it’s a shame it doesn’t stand out when put in habitat near gold, silver, etc. (size) 4. 5 (price) 5. 4 (fit with event theme) 6. 5 (attention to detail design) 7. 5 (how much do you like) 8. Would score question 7 a 10. I love this dragon. As mentioned by BagMom: I also feel like it floats to far away from the habitat. (opt. additional feedback)
Lazuli 1. 4 2. 4 3. 5 4. 4 5. 4, the description reminds me of a dolphin, so not too sure about fitting the pirate theme, although dolphins and paradise are some of my favorite things 😎 😄 6. 5 7. 5, I love the colors and the small size.
1.) Animation: 4 (Mediocre animation. Seems like it could do more or that its wings should be more dynamic.)
2.) Rift Trait: 3 (The rift trait isn't that noticeable honestly. I think the dragons light blue underbelly and wings would be better for a rift trait placement.)
3.) Size: 5 (This is like the perfect size for this dragon, not too big, not too small.)
4.) Price: 4 (Anything more than 12,000 event currency I think is too much. But because it is breedable during the time it is available, I feel the price is justified somewhat.)
5.) Theme Representation: 5 (I like that it seems aquaticy, and I like that its name implies treasure. It fits the theme I feel.)
6.) Design Details: 5 (This dragon is very aesthetically pleasing. I think size of the head is a bit awkward for the rest of its body, but I think it looks really nice.)
7.) Likeability: 5 (I like this dragon. I wouldn't say I am a fan, but I am not disappointed with it.)
8.) I appreciate the name Lazuli to reference Lapis Lazuli as a treasure, however, since there is already a Lapis Gemstone dragon, and since Lapis is short for Lapis Lazuli, I feel it could have a better name.

1. Animation = 2.5 2. Rift trait placement = 4 3. Size = 5 4. Price = 4 5. Theme = 4 6. Detail = 4 7. How much do you like Lazuli? 4.5 Pretty dragon but like other comments, a different name would be better.
1. Animation 4 - Lovely and graceful but missing that extra special activity that i have come to expect
2. Size 5
3. Price 5
4. Fit theme - 5
5. Design details 5 stunning, gorgeous !
6. How much do you like - love it! Beautiful !
7. Comments/feedback for Deca - love it! ❤️, it is beautiful & love that it is like that other lovely real-life sea creature (thanks, adlerist! I never would have known it if you hadn’t pointed it out!) 👍🏻😃 … think it possibly could have been saved for a different event (not very ‘pirate’) but that is being a bit picky.

It's time to start a massive train of thought for the remaining dragons from Pirates in Paradise! Next stop: Lazuli.
Let's get to it.
1. Rate Lazuli's animation quality:1/5
As per all of the Rate a Dragon threads, the first category is animation quality, and... oh dear. We're not off to a good start here...
Anyone that has seen the Lazuli dragon probably knows that it is heavily based on a real life animal: the blue glaucus, a sea slug that is sometimes referred to as the blue dragon among many other nicknames. These animals don't really have much flexibility, and their limbs hardly move. They tend to just float across the ocean, letting the current take them wherever it flows. I suppose I have to give the design team some credit for trying to be scientifically accurate when it comes to how the Lazuli dragon moves, but considering that this is supposed to be a mobile videogame in a fantasy world full of magic and wonders... it's pretty disappointing.
The Lazuli dragon's animations are incredibly stiff. Its limbs don't move much, and when they do, they look far too constrained. I also noticed that the front-most set of fins don't move in sync with each other. Yes, I do think the underside of the limb is pretty. No, you don't have to constantly force the dragon to show it to me in ways that make it move awkwardly. I get that this dragon is just a fancy blue glaucus, but that shouldn't mean the poor dragon has to be reduced to a cheap action figure! Furthermore, all the dragon seems to do is just levitate unnaturally through the air. There's pretty much nothing going for the Lazuli dragon in terms of animations. It's just "swimming" in the air... often outside of the Dragonarium info box! What good is the Dragonarium if I can't even see the dragon on full display a third of the time?
I ought to stop myself before I get carried away in the negativity, but to sum up my thoughts... I'm rather displeased. The Lazuli dragon doesn't feel like a living being, but rather just a drawing with some occasionally stretching and rotating parts. I wish the design team had allowed themselves to be more loose with the Lazuli dragon animation-wise, even if its real life counterpart isn't known for moving quickly or gracefully through the water. Overall, there's a lot of missed potential here.
2. Rate Lazuli's Rift trait placement and appearance:4/5
On a more positive note, let's move on to the Lazuli dragon's Rift trait placement. One thing that I think Deca Games has over Backflip Studios is the Rift trait placement for their dragons, and the Lazuli dragon is no exception. The Rift trait isn't in-your-face, but rather placed more subtly on the dragon's various swirls and patterns. It's exactly where I would've put it if I were the one in charge. That being said, I also feel like there could have been a bit more. Perhaps the spots on the underside of the fins could've benefited from a little touch of Rift magic as well. I know the topside already has some, but the underside feels a bit bland in comparison.
As for the appearance of the Rift trait, I'd say the Lazuli dragon looks nice in pretty much every version. The fact that the trait is so subtle means that none of the Rift traits clash with the dragon's natural color palette or design. I suppose the Water trait would be the worse trait to have on it for those looking for more drastic changes, and the Cold trait suffers from a similar problem, but any other trait is enough to make a small yet pleasant difference in the Lazuli dragon's design. Heck, it's a dragon that isn't already green and looks good with the Plant trait! Pretty impressive, I'd say.
3. Please rate Lazuli's size:4/5
The Lazuli dragon's size is about what I would expect for something like it. Initially, I wanted to give this dragon a perfect score in this category, but after looking at it on display in a park, I have to take a point away. This dragon isn't excessively detailed, but it does have quite a few smaller details that can be a bit hard to notice without looking at it in its info box or the Dragonarium. I think the Lazuli dragon would have benefited from being just a bit larger.
4. Rate Lazuli's price (13,000 Doubloons):4/5
The Lazuli dragon, like the Gawk dragon that came out before it, is an Epic-class dragon. Therefore, it deserves to be somewhat expensive. However, unlike the Gawk dragon, the Lazuli dragon and its successors don't have the added benefit of having two weeks to save up for them. The natural price increase with each new limited dragon is tradition, and while I do believe it makes sense from a game design perspective, I think the Lazuli dragon's price could've been just a tiiiny bit lower. Its breeding combo--Scarab and Bronze--doesn't help its case either. While the Bronze dragon is fairly easy to obtain through breeding, the Scarab dragon is a part of a lengthy breeding tree, thus making the Lazuli dragon a challenge to get through breeding. To breed it, you need the Scarab dragon, which needs the Loot dragon, which needs the Gold dragon. That's why I've given the Lazuli dragon the score it has. It's just shy of being a perfect score.
5. How well does Lazuli fit the theme of the event?:2/5
When it comes to keeping up with the main pirate theme, the Lazuli dragon is a rock in the middle of the ocean that the event ship crashed into. It's an aquatic dragon... and that's it. It has absolutely nothing to do with pirates, and when you put it with all of the other dragons in the event, the Lazuli dragon doesn't really belong. It would probably be thrown overboard into the sea for not fitting in were it actually on a pirate ship. Good thing it can swim!
However, I will give the Lazuli dragon some credit. While it has no place being with a pirate crew, it does fit in alright with the general--though lesser--paradise theme. The blue glaucus is known for living in tropical waters, and of course, everyone knows that it is what this dragon was based on. I suppose the pirates can't be in paradise like the event name implies if there is no paradise to begin with. Congratulations, Lazuli dragon, you are not the outcast of this event! That title goes to a certain rainbow serpent... but that's not the focus of this post, now is it? I think the Lazuli dragon could have been reworked or rotated with something more fitting for Pirates in Paradise, but it's not a complete loss.
6. Rate the attention to detail in Lazuli's design:4/5
The blue glaucus has many nicknames. Out of all of them, perhaps the most commonly known one is the blue dragon. The Lazuli dragon... sure is a blue dragon! It is a beautiful, mythical-looking creature indeed. I particularly love the patterns across the Lazuli dragon's body. It's like a bigger, more advanced version of the Mylio dragon, which is also quite pretty. Overall, it's a great design in terms of pure visual appeal.
That being said, there's one small, non-visual detail about the Lazuli dragon that makes me scratch my head. Why is this dragon considered a part of the Treasure element? Besides the name coming from the precious stone lapis lazuli, there's nothing about the design that says it belongs in a Treasure habitat. I know that both of its parents are Treasure dragons, but if I didn't know that already, I wouldn't believe you if you told me the Lazuli dragon was also a Treasure dragon from a first glance. If it must remain a Treasure dragon, then at the very least give it a bit of pizzazz! Maybe there could've been a few jewels encrusted within the fins in place of some of the patterns, or the dragon's body could be sparkly in some places. Make it shiny! Add some glam! Make it fit in with the habitat that it calls home! At least it fits the Water element alright.
7. How much do you like Lazuli?:3/5
When the Lazuli dragon first came out, I really wanted to like it. After all, it's a dragon based on a real world animal that is literally called a blue dragon! How cool is that to finally have one in the game? However, when the initial surprise and awe wore off, so did my appeal. Unfortunately, the Lazuli dragon has several flaws that I've already covered, with the biggest offender being its animations. Sure, the dragon looks cool in its announcement picture, but in action? Boy, the magic does not persist. I'm really sad to have to lump this dragon with the Masque dragon in the list of dragons that I think are really pretty, but can't bring myself to fully enjoy because of the way they move in my park. Additionally, the fact that it doesn't fit the elements it was given bumps it down on my list of dragons I like. It's really a shame, since it's a nice design on its own, but I suppose I'll just appreciate it as a non-moving picture for now. Perhaps someday I'll warm up to the Lazuli dragon more.
8. Additional comments and feedback
So... what exactly was the thought process for deciding the Lazuli dragon's breeding combo? I get that Deca Games wanted all of the limited dragons to be bred using two existing Treasure dragons, but of all the possible combinations, why choose the Scarab and Bronze dragons? Neither of these dragons share anything in common with the Lazuli dragon other than them all being Treasure dragons. Maybe since the Mylio dragon looks similar to it, perhaps the breeding combo could've been Mylio and any dragon with the Treasure element? I don't have many alternatives to suggest, but I will say that the breeding combo we got for the Lazuli dragon makes no sense thematically, and it feels like the team just randomly threw darts at a board.
Rant over, haha. This is probably the Pirates in Paradise dragon that I have the most mixed feelings for. I want to like it, and yet I don't like it as much as I want to. Such is the DragonVale paradox, I suppose.

1. Rate Lazuli’s animation quality - 5 What it does, it does well
2. How would you rate Lazuli’s Rift trait placement and look (the fire trait is showing in the above video)- 3 Very subtle, not sure if that is good or bad.
3. Please rate Lazuli’s size (you may want to check how Lazuli’s size compares to other dragons in your park; if you don’t own Lazuli, check a friend’s park) - 5
4. Rate Lazuli’s price (13,000 Doubloons) - 5
5. How well does Lazuli fit the theme of the event? - 3 Only seems to fit because of it's story and the fact the inspiration is a sea creature.
6. Rate the attention to detail in Lazuli’s design - 4 - What happened to the legs it had as a baby? Makes me think of the "Simpsons" Halloween special - "Look! Maggie lost her baby legs"
7. How much do you like Lazuli? (1 = I hate it, 5 = I love it!) 5
8. Add any additional comments or feedback (OPTIONAL) This dragon is redundant. We already have a Lapis dragon. It also looks very similiar to Allure. Seems this could have been saved for another event.
