THE MYSTERY BEHIND THE EGG
DragonVale has a magical feature called the Egg of Mystery. It causes quite a stir as players are very eggcited about these eggs. As the name implies, mystery eggs can contain a variety of different dragons; only until it’s open will the dragon be revealed.
TYPES OF MYSTERY EGGS
Daily Rewards Mystery Eggs
Every day you play, you’ll unlock a daily reward. The calendar for the rewards include the Galaxy, Gemstone, Rare, and Epic mystery eggs. These mystery eggs are a little different than others, as you will be rewarded an unowned dragon provided that you do not own all the dragons in the collection.
For example, if you receive the Epic Egg of Mystery from the Daily Rewards, and you don’t own all the epic dragons in the game, you will receive an unowned epic dragon.
However, if you own all the epic dragons, you will receive a random epic dragon. The version of the dragon will be a twin, unless you already own a twin, then it’ll be a traited-twin. All the Daily Reward mystery eggs are programmed this way. The game doesn’t recognise you’re missing a twin or traited-twin from the collection. Once you have all the dragons in the collection, it’ll randomly select a dragon. The version of the dragon you receive is based on what you own. This can be very frustrating for players who are missing one twin or traited-twin. But it’s not a bug. Backflip confirmed it is intentional.
Egg of Mystery
The standard Egg of Mystery is permanently available at the Rift Market. It’s contents can include any dragon, except for the latest new releases. You can purchase them at any time. The price starts at 1,500 and rises with additional purchases, until the egg caps at 29,150 Etherium.
Rare Egg of Mystery
The Rare Egg of Mystery is permanently available at the Rift Market. It’s contents can include any rare, except for the latest new releases. You can purchase them at any time. The price starts at 2,000 and rises with additional purchases, until the egg caps at 57,300 Etherium.
Epic Egg of Mystery
The Epic Egg of Mystery is permanently available at the Rift Market. It’s contents can include any epic, except for the latest new releases. You can purchase them at any time. The price starts at 3,000 and rises with additional purchases, until the egg caps at 113,600 Etherium.
Gem Egg of Mystery
The Gem Egg of Mystery is permanently available at the Rift Market. It’s contents can include any Gemstone or Crystalline dragon, unless there’s a new release. The price starts at 5,000 and rises with additional purchases, until the egg caps at 170,900 Etherium.
Galaxy Egg of Mystery (limited)
The Galaxy Egg of Mystery is a limited mystery egg and is generally only available when Galaxy dragons are in the event market. It’s contents can include any Galaxy dragon, except for the latest new releases. The price of the Galaxy mystery egg starts at 7,500 and rises by 7,500 Etherium with each egg, capping at 562,500 Etherium.
Chrysalis Egg of Mystery (limited)
The Chrysalis Egg of Mystery is a limited mystery egg and is generally only available when Chrysalis dragons are in the event market. It’s contents can include any Chrysalis dragon, except for the latest new releases. The price of the Chrysalis mystery egg starts at 7,500 and rises by 7,500 Etherium with each egg, capping at 562,500 Etherium.
Monolith Egg of Mystery (limited)
The Monolith Egg of Mystery is a limited mystery egg and is generally only available when Monolith dragons are in the event market. It’s contents can include any Monolith dragon, except for the latest new releases. The price of the Monolith mystery egg starts at 5,000 Etherium and rises by 1,000 Etherium with each egg and caps at 562,500 Etherium.
Snowflake Egg of Mystery (limited)
The Snowflake Egg of Mystery is a limited mystery egg and is generally only available when Snowflake dragons are in the event market. It’s contents can include any Snowflake dragon, except for the latest new releases. The price of the Snowflake mystery egg starts at 5,000 Etherium and rises by 1,000 Etherium with each egg and caps at 562,500 Etherium.
Event Mystery Eggs
You can receive a mystery egg from an event. Sometimes they’re offered as a reward or a community prize.
EVENT EGG TIP: Mystery eggs awarded during events are delivered directly to your Gifts. The contents of the egg are not predetermined. Therefore, if you open the egg after the event, when the latest dragons have entered the pool of dragons for mystery eggs, there is a chance you can obtain one of the latest dragons. Endgamers will typically do this, since they do not need twin or traited-twin versions of older dragons.
VERSION OF DRAGON REWARDED
Mystery eggs will either contain a regular, twin, traited, or traited-twin version a dragon. The type of dragon you receive is dependent on the dragons you own and the type of mystery egg.
The version of the Daily Reward mystery egg, permanent mystery eggs from the Rift Market, Runic Breeding Cave eggs, and event reward eggs all follow the same pattern:
• If you don’t own the dragon = regular
• If you own a regular version = twin
• If you own a twin = traited-twin
The limited Egg of Mystery for Galaxy, Chrysalis, Monolith, and Snowflake are special. These eggs are specifically designed to allow players to breed the collection in the Rift — so all the dragons you’ll receive are traited. Therefore, the pattern is slightly different:
• If you don’t own the dragon = traited
• If you own any version of the dragon = traited-twin
There’s no regular or twin version available.
Backflip purposefully designed the limited eggs this way. It would be very frustrating for players to spend Etherium on the special limited mystery eggs, and regular or regular twin versions of the dragon popped up. Since untraited dragons can’t be used as breeding parents in the Rift, it’s useless to have them in the limited eggs.
