Hi everybody!
I became a member of this forum almost 2 years ago and never posted, but I couldn’t resist with this fab new contest! Thanks for creating it adlerist and thanks RecallDoro and Deca for supporting it and thanks to all the mods and members for keeping the forum going! Here is my first post 😃
A couple years ago I saw the circus documentary adlerist posted (I was really surprised and happy to see it linked here!) and another circus documentary but I can’t remember the name. It got me interested in the early years of the circus and its performers including Leitzel, Cordona, and Leotard. I’ve read about them too, they were the biggest stars with big personalities!
Leitzel is in Smigi’s description, but I think she is also the meaning behind Smigi’s name. Leitzel was very petite. She was 4’9” and under 100 lbs. but had noticeably, very developed shoulder, upper body, and arm muscles because of her aerial act that she performed for 20 years.
Smigi is short for smidge or smidgen, which means small and refers to Leitzel’s small size. Smigi also has much larger arms compared to the rest of its body. This seems to refer to Leitzel’s physique.
TL;DR - My guess is Smigi is short for smidge or smidgen, which means small. Even though Smigi isn’t small, the name is referring to the petite Leitzel.

Holy Mackerel! If this isn’t the correct answer for the meaning of Smigi, it should be. It pulls a little bit of everyone’s guesses together into one cohesive explanation for Smigi that totally makes sense. It’s both logical and extremely creative. Amazing work!!
Congratulations on your first post! It was mind blowing 😃🤯

Smigi reminds me of the word smug. The Smigi dragons have a lot to be proud of with their acrobatic achievements so you can’t blame them for having great pride in themselves!
I was going to guess Smigi was named after the word Smigiel, but I see someone has guessed that so I’m going to give an original answer instead. Although there’s already some wonderful original guesses, so many be I’ll win the raffle. 😆
The Smigi dragon was walking along on his hands because with his strong arms it felt so much more comfortable than walking on his skinny legs. The only problem was he couldn’t see where he was going. As he moved through the market, he bumped into dragons and wizards who would yell, “Watch out!” or “Look where you’re going buddy!”
To warn people that he was approaching, Smigi started to say “Beep beep coming through!” “Need some room.” “Can you move a smidge, please?” “A little more.” “Just a smidge.” “A smidge more.” “Just a smidge.”
Everyone thought his name was just that, Smidge, and they affectionately call him Smigi. 😁

Everyone has great guesses, but I think I’ve got it!
The Smigi dragon used to be called Frank. He’d tumble and perform with a gigantic smile everyone could see for a mile. Then one day, the Ringmaster told Frank that the circus would only be held once a year. Frank was devastated. What will he do with all his free time, energy, and handstands? He lost his gigantic smile, so everyone started calling him Smigi to remind him to smile gigantically.
When the circus returns every year, if you look very closely, you can catch a glimpse of Smigi’s famous giant smile while he’s performing.
I know it’s not the happiest story, but it shows how much Smigi loves the circus above everything else. And if you think about it, that’s not sad at all.
Smigi’s name is from Sméagol in Lord of the Rings. Sméagol is good and not the corrupted Gollum. Peter Jackson said ‘Sméagol is a joyful, sweet character. Sméagol does not lie, deceive or attempt to manipulate others. He is not evil, conniving or malicious - these personality traits belong to Gollum, who should never be confused with Sméagol.’
That sounds a lot like the dragon Smigi.
I’m not sure what this proves except that DECA employees are Lord of the Rings fans!
Here’s the kicker... Smigi’s name doesn’t mean anything. But when you say it, you can’t help but to smile. That’s why Smigi is called Smigi. It makes you smile.
PS, I totally love the name Smigi. It’s so fun to say!
PPS, Thanks for the contest! 🙏 It was entertaining reading all the guesses and trying to thinking of the reason for the name Smigi ☺️

I’m not good at haikus but I can write a poem for some creative points.
Everyone wondered What Smigi could mean Some said small Others said giant.
Finally someone said, Why not ask Smigi?
Smigi said, My name means Some Igloo
Everyone said, I never would have guessed that.
Your guess is similar to what my niece guessed. She is very clever and loves DragonVale. She makes up names for her dragons and guesses the meaning behind the given names. I asked her what Smigi meant and she said it’s a combination of the words small and giant. It’s an opposite dragon. She’s so brilliant!

It was great reading through all these! My favorite guesses were from DragonMoonX and sylviasylvester. I really like how Leitzel was used to explain the meaning behind Smigi’s name. Even if the answer is something different I’ll be reminded of Leitzel every time I see Smigi. I also really liked the guesses that were based on the origin of the word and learning all the different languages and definitions of words that are similar to Smigi. Some of the creative guesses were so funny and amazing! You guys should write books, I’d love to read them!
Entries can take any form - it is only limited by your imagination. 😊
Thank you! I know entries can be anything but haiku was a suggestion in the rules and I never would’ve thought to do a haiku if it wasn’t suggested lol.

OMG, small and giant, an opposite dragon! I think your niece nailed it! It’s so sweet that your niece loves DV, her guess is amazing. She’s a genius!
I’m flattered to be in the same genius category as your niece samiam! How old is she? My nieces and nephews range from 4-15 but unfortunately none of them play DV. Maybe I can convince them one day!
