For those who are new to Rate a Dragon, Deca Games has developed a series of questions to gather feedback from players regarding their new event dragons. To capture an accurate account of players’ assessments, Rate a Dragon threads are created for each new dragon. These threads will be available approximately one to four weeks after a dragon’s release to allow players some time to breed the dragon and admire its fine qualities.
Since Deca asked players to rate their dragons and provided questions for the categories they would like to receive feedback on, please keep all comments related to the dragon. Opinions and suggestions about the selection process Deca utlilises to add player-designed dragons to the game, requests to include or exclude a player’s dragons from the game, and other off-topic comments will not be passed on to Deca. In addition, excessively rude, graphic, or offensive remarks will not be relayed and could result in a ban. Criticism is certainly welcomed, but try to keep it constructive and related to the dragon.
The Rate a Dragon threads will remain unlocked until the event concludes on August 9th. At the end of the event, your ratings and comments will be passed on to the Deca DragonVale Team.
Please take a minute to rate the Dunes of Magic dragons from 1-5 for each category. You can either post your feedback on this thread or message me. Thank you for participating, sharing your thoughts, and making this game even better with each dragon.

The new summer destination hotspot is the Sandara Desert, and it is a hot spot! It boasts the glorious Sandara Pyramids, so everyone is flocking to the desert. But you’re in luck! You can skip the claustrophobic crowds and overbearing heat, yet still revel in the magic of the Pyramids every day when they are on your mini-profile. Simply rate the new Dunes of Magic dragons before the event concludes, and you'll be marvelling at the pyramid power all year long.
Since we have completed two full years of Rate a Dragon there are now two previous summer awards to offer. Instead of the Sandara Pyramids, you can choose a Barrel of Ikatako from last year’s Pirates in Paradise II or the Jolly Roger Dragon from Pirates in Paradise. So many options! When you’re done rating the Dunes of Magic dragons, message me, and Barrel of Ikatako or Jolly Roger Dragon will be added to your profile instead.
AWARD RULES
1. You must be a Forum member to receive an award because guest profiles are not retained.
2. Awards will display on your Profile page and mini profile. To see the awards, you’ll need to view the Forum in its desktop version since the mobile version does not support many features, including the full mini profile.
3. Awards will be permanent, but if you do not want them or would like them removed, just let me know.
4. If you prefer to not post publicly, you can message me your dragon ratings before the event concludes, and you will still receive the award.

1. Animation 2 Not much happens. I'm not a fan of the robotic arm movements and random dancing. It seems quite a few dragons just have a random dance in their animation, making me wonder whether at least some of them are the result of trying to fill in animation time without being very imaginative. I'd rather have a shorter animation that was actually relevant to the dragon than the animation be extended by unrelated dancing (or other uncreative things). I'm also not sure why its wings need to randomly disappear; if they were obscured by the sand I'd understand, but they're not. I do like the puffs of sand clouds.
2. Rift trait 2 I do tend to prefer when DECA leans towards not over-traiting, rather than when dragons are ridiculously traited, but this is very under-traited. Having subtle streaks of trait on the wings would have made the trait more obvious without ruining the design in my opinion.
3. Size (if you don’t own Saharus, please check a friend’s park) 3 It's a little bit on the big side but if it wasn't it would be hard to make out the details.
4. Price (14,400 Spice) 1 This is not an okay price for a first limited, especially in an event where the unbreedables were expensive (and only one had good cloning odds) and there was no extra EC mechanism (apart from EC from treats, which I'm not counting since it gives so little and you're unlikely to get the max EC every day unless you spend gems, since only longer treats give EC). In my opinion the first limited of an event should never be more than 12.5k (even that is pushing it a bit, especially with no extra EC).
5. How well does Saharus fit the theme of the event 5 Very well, like a lot of dragons from this event.
6. Design details 4 The baby is adorable (I love its eyes especially) and the adult seems quite cool. It would have been nice if we got more of an idea of what the dragon actually looked like but I really like the concept of it being surrounded by a sandstorm. Like with Efreet I'm not a fan of the hands, though I do think they make more sense in Saharus' case. I also think this dragon could have worked better on all fours; as it is it looks too thin and too tall to me.
7. How would you rate Saharus’s breeding combo (SCARAB + SAND) 2 Sand is great, and while Sandstorm or Whirlwind would have made more sense, I'm really glad they went with Sand (as it's not an opposite-element hybrid). Scarab doesn't make any sense at all (not to mention doesn't help with fail times like Scarab itself or Bronze) and isn't the easiest to breed, especially since it requires Loot - as someone else mentioned, it feels like it was added for the sake of being difficult, which is unnecessary at best and unfair at worst. There are plenty of difficult combos in the game, many of which appear in the Paradise event, so we don't need more added for the sake of it. Treasure element also makes absolutely no sense for this dragon, so the combo could have instead been Sand + sun element or, to make it even easier, Sand + Wind.
8. How much do you like Saharus (1 = I hate it, 5 = I love it!) 4 Apart from the poorly chosen combo, this is a cool dragon.
Comments: The Sandstorm weather is very appropriate for this dragon, though I'm very thankful to DECA for listening to everyone's concerns and changing the default weather 😊

Size: 2/5 This dragon is WAY too small for the details included. Although I do prefer smaller dragons, I cannot see much at all.
Price: 2/5 This is quite expensive for such a difficult breeding percentage and rather difficult combo.
Theme: 5 You cannot have a desert without the sand(storms)!
Design: 3/5 Overall the effort put into the dragon is great, although its small size makes it very difficult to see.
Combo: 2/5 I really do not understand why Scarab is a part of this dragon's combo, other than for the element. Sand is fitting, though SAND +SANDSTORM would have been way better and way easier. That and Scarab is not my favorite dragon to breed, especially with Jackpot also sharing the same parents which creates a breeding overlap.
Preference: 3/5 Overall I like the concept, although there is too much sand. And Scarab is questionable.
Notes: Why is this thing treasure? It should at the very least, have the Earth and Air elements.
The Original One is in all things. The Original One is nowhere at all. From all creations, over all creations, does Arceus watch over all.
1. Animation 4/5. does fine for what the dragon is.
2. Rift trait 1/5. had to go back and check whether the provided video was actually traited or not
3. Size (if you don’t own Saharus, please check a friend’s park) 1/5. too small
4. Price (14,400 Spice) 1/5. absolutely terrible. this is *far* too high for an early event limited.
5. How well does Saharus fit the theme of the event 5/5. at least it gets this right
6. Design details 1/5. visually not interesting outside of the base concept, and very much out of art style, even compared to some DECA made dragons. arm and tail proportions are confusing too.
7. How would you rate Saharus’s breeding combo (SCARAB + SAND) 2/5. what does scarab have to do with this other than artificial difficulty...?
8. How much do you like Saharus (1 = I hate it, 5 = I love it!) 1/5. i really, really don't like this dragon.
3. Size (if you don’t own Saharus, please check a friend’s park): 4/5
4. Price (14,400 Spice): 1/5 PRICEY, especially after only giving a week and a half to earn spice, ESPECIALLY when there is no real extra spice-earning game beyond farming treats. Don't have Scarab, tried to clone, but the cloning odds stink. Tried to coop with someone who did have a scarab, in the end wasn't successful. Didn't have even remotely enough spice. Yeah, I'm not spending real money (to get 14,400 spice, I'd have to spend $50 USD on a double day- over that on a normal day- to be able to purchase it)- No.
5. How well does Saharus fit the theme of the event: 5/5
6. Design details: 4/5
7. How would you rate Saharus’s breeding combo (SCARAB + SAND): 3/5
8. How much do you like Saharus (1 = I hate it, 5 = I love it!): 5/5
Comments / feedback for Deca: If you want people to spend real money in-game, rethink your prices. No one is going to spend upwards of $50 for a digital dragon. They might be more inclined to spend money on spice if they were earning more and were *just* out of reach of their goal.

SAHARUS DRAGON
1. Animation-5 but I don’t care for the random dancing
2. Rift trait-4 sometimes less is more
3. Size (if you don’t own Saharus, please check a friend’s park)-4
4. Price (14,400 Spice)-3
5. How well does Saharus fit the theme of the event-5
6. Design details-5
7. How would you rate Saharus’s breeding combo (SCARAB + SAND)-4 mostly because I tried for over a week to get a traited scarab and nothing. A hard one to breed
8. How much do you like Saharus (1 = I hate it, 5 = I love it!)-5

1. Animation 3.5/5, the only animation that stands out to me is the animation where it absorbs a sandcastle, other than that, nothing special tbh
2. Rift trait 2/5, so usually I don't mind subtle traits but for this one I have to squint in order to see what parts are traited, which is not a good thing
3. Size (if you don’t own Saharus, please check a friend’s park) 2/5, I am not a fan of its size, normally you would expect a sand monster to be big but this dragon is too small
4. Price (14,400 Spice) 2/5, limited dragons should not be this expensive right off the bat
5. How well does Saharus fit the theme of the event 5/5
6. Design details 3/5, I'd rate this higher if it was bigger because its small size makes it hard to notice design details
7. How would you rate Saharus’s breeding combo (SCARAB + SAND) 3/5, I don't see the point of scarab being included in this combo aside from the fact that it's just a treasure dragon, why not whirlwind x sand or sandstorm x sand?
8. How much do you like Saharus (1 = I hate it, 5 = I love it!) 3/5, it's ok I guess
Comments / feedback for Deca I like the concept for this dragon but the execution of it felt kind of boring honestly
1. Animation 5/5 seems appropriate for a sandstorm
2. Rift trait 2/5 almost missed it
3. Size (if you don’t own Saharus, please check a friend’s park) 3/5 could be a bit larger, I was surprised when I placed it in habitat.
4. Price (14,400 Spice) 1/5 ominous with so many other dragons to follow in event
5. How well does Saharus fit the theme of the event 5/5 sandstorm in the desert yes,
6. Design details 3/5 the head on baby too large, adult head is too small
7. How would you rate Saharus’s breeding combo (SCARAB + SAND) 2/5 Why a treasure dragon, trying to make it fit treasure by calling the sand golden doesn’t fit color of this dragon, out of its element in a treasure habitat, earth/air maybe with apocalypse seems more appropriate, belongs in an earth habitat, the Scarab dragon is perfect for breeding a different dragon that is more compatible with treasure, pyramids, and dragons
8. How much do you like Saharus (1 = I hate it, 5 = I love it!) 3/5 like the idea …not the execution, too many things don’t fit together and the idea falls flat.
5. How well does Saharus fit the theme of the event : 5
6. Design details : 5
7. How would you rate Saharus’s breeding combo (SCARAB + SAND) : 3
8. How much do you like Saharus : 4
Comments / feedback for Deca : Nice animation with Saharus creating a sandcastle and reabsorbing it. Other than that there’s not much going on – the waving/dancing arms look silly. Saharus’ ‘horns’ and ‘spine’ should have a trait – as the other ‘pointy’ bits are traited. Saharus fits the theme perfectly being a perpetual sandstorm. Sand is a great parent for Saharus, but Scarab seems to make it overly complicated and difficult. A difficult dragon for newer players to try and breed. Far too expensive for the first limited dragon in the event.
3. Size (if you don’t own Saharus, please check a friend’s park) - 3/5
4. Price (14,400 Spice) - 3/5
5. How well does Saharus fit the theme of the event - 5/5
6. Design details - 2/5
7. How would you rate Saharus’s breeding combo (SCARAB + SAND) - 2/5
8. How much do you like Saharus (1 = I hate it, 5 = I love it!) - 3/5
Comments / feedback for Deca - Not my favorite but a neat design. Should NOT be treasure however. The Combo does not make much sense here unless I'm missing something about its background lore.
1. 5/5 Great animation. There’s a sandstorm going on & I like the little dance. 2. 3/5 Would like more colour. 3. 5/5 Perfect size for me. 4. 3/5 Too pricey. 5. 5/5 An obvious fit. 6. 4/5 A little bit odd but I like it. The sandstorm is brilliant & I love the eye colour. 7. 3/5 Unsure about Scarab. 8. 4/5 A great addition although it being a Treasure dragon is confusing.
5. How well does Saharus fit the theme of the event 5/5
6. Design details 2/5
7. How would you rate Saharus’s breeding combo (SCARAB + SAND) 1/5
8. How much do you like Saharus (1 = I hate it, 5 = I love it!) 3/5
Comments / feedback for Deca Even someone who has never played DragonVale knows that a sandstorm is not a "treasure"! Proportions of head, arms, and tail give an awkward appearance.

1. Animation: 4, I like how it “mows” over its sand castle. 😃
2. Rift trait: 4
3. Size: 4
4. Price (14,400 Spice): 3
5. How well does Saharus fit the theme of the event: 5
6. Design details: 4
7. How would you rate Saharus’s breeding combo (SCARAB + SAND): 3, sand I get, but its shape and back story doesn’t relate to scarab. Plus, scarab is difficult to breed.
8. How much do you like Saharus: 4
Comments / feedback for Deca: The baby is very cute with its big blue eyes. As for the adult, the way it moves its bony arms with the curved claws in front of its body is kind of weird for me. Not sure if it is intended to be scary? I also don’t get the treasure habitat. I think Light, Earth, or even Sun may be more appropriate? He does remind me of Pig-pen..😊
1. Animation: 2/5 2. Rift trait: 4/5 3. Size: 5/5 4. Price: 3/5 5. Theme: 5/5 6. Design details: 4/5 7. Breeding combo (SCARAB + SAND): 1/5 8. How much do you like Saharus: 4/5
Comments:
It controls the sands... but doesn't actually do a lot. Saharus could make a truly impressive sand castle, or move the sand into giant dragon images like a drone show. The upright movement is ok. It reminds me of a tornado, which maybe was the point. His arms are weird when they flap back, but I enjoy the maniacal laugh.
The head is cute and he has great proportions. Gorgeous eye colour. I do like the gritty nature of the sand on him, especially the wispy wings. I guess his torso is permanently hidden in the sand. Bummer. Trait placement is minimal, but well done and appropriate except - maybe the head and neck spines could have been traited too? Cost makes me worry how high these 5 limiteds are gonna go.
While he does match the theme of magical sand, I'm curious why he has treasure element. It seems far more appropriate for earth, air and light. Someone suggested Sand + Whirlwind. Sounds great! Adding Scarab DNA just for the treasure element was unnecessary and honestly, mean. Scarab is ridiculously difficult to get traited. Maybe if the dragon made big piles of fake coins (of sand), or other sandy treasure - or unearthed some actual hidden treasures in the whipping sands? Maybe then it could conceivably be treasure. But not as is and certainly not just because we have to use Scarab in the combo. I do appreciate his timer is shorter.
I really wish this guy had been called the Sandarus dragon.
