In May 2021, The Spectacular Spectacle introduced Rate a Dragon. Members who have been submitting numbers for the dragons since the start have now rated 179 dragons across 24 events! Along the way, we have wonderfully gained more players who are providing valuable comments and assessments. Thank you, everybody, for your time, thoughts, and consideration. Your input has helped Deca with their dragon designs, breeding combinations, prices, and event themes. It has been a joy to see our feedback incorporated into our beloved game.
For those who are new to Rate a Dragon, Deca Games has developed a series of questions to gather feedback from players regarding their new event dragons. To capture an accurate account of players’ assessments, Rate a Dragon threads are created for each new dragon. These threads will be available approximately one to four weeks after a dragon’s release to allow players some time to breed the dragon and admire its fine qualities.
Since Deca asked players to rate their dragons and provided questions for the categories they would like to receive feedback on, please keep all comments related to the dragon. Opinions and suggestions about the selection process Deca utilises to add player-designed dragons into the game, requests to include or exclude a player’s dragons from the game, and other off-topic comments will not be passed on to Deca. In addition, excessively rude, graphic, or offensive remarks will not be relayed and could result in a ban. Criticism is certainly welcomed, but try to keep it constructive and relevant to the dragon.
The Rate a Dragon threads will remain unlocked until the event concludes on June 26th. At the end of the event, your ratings and comments will be passed on to the Deca DragonVale Team.
Please take a minute to rate the Upheaval of the Medieval dragons from 1-5 for each category. You can either post your feedback on this thread or message me. Thank you for participating, sharing your thoughts, and making this game even better with each dragon.

ARCANE DRAGON
1. Animation - 5/5
2. Rift trait - 5/5
3. Size (if you don’t own Arcane, please check a friend’s park) - 5/5
4. Price (10,500 Magic) - 5/5
5. How well does Arcane fit the theme of the event - 5/5 Arcane’s name matches the event more than the dragon.
6. Rate Arcane’s design - 4/5
7. How would you rate Arcane’s breeding combo (MORPHIMAGUS + QUANTUM) - 2/5 Morphimagus is tough to breed and seems totally unnecessary for Arcane. Doesn’t look like Arcane at all. Same with Quantum tbh.
8. How much do you like Arcane (1 = I hate it, 5 = I love it!) - 3/5
Comments/feedback for Deca I love baby Arcane! And I love the colors of the dragon and egg!

1. Animation - 2 - it seems to be the thief of Basket’s missing hidden animation, lol. I’m not sure whether this would’ve worked as an actual hidden dragon given ‘arcane’ is a concept and as such you can’t really pretend to physically be ‘arcane’ — and given the silly epic-Co-Op-clone-low-odds rule, I’m glad this dragon didn’t inherit Morphimagus’ hidden element. But I find it amusing it does appear to try to hide... for some reason...? The hidden animation is suspiciously close to Coldcoil’s, but the rest of the animation is different enough
2. Rift trait - 3 - a mediocre trait for a mediocre dragon, decent enough
3. Size (if you don’t own Arcane, please check a friend’s park) - 4.5
4. Price (10,500 Magic) - 5
5. How well does Arcane fit the theme of the event - 1.5 - err, I guess since we’re so far removed from it, the Medieval period is secret or mysterious to us??? And purple was a valuable colour in history... That’s all I can think of, sorry
6. Rate Arcane’s design - 3 - it’s okay, but not really anything memorable imo
7. How would you rate Arcane’s breeding combo (MORPHIMAGUS + QUANTUM) - 1 - and not for Starwing, which I’m very glad was added to this event btw. It’s because of Morphimagus’ hidden requirement. There are no other hidden dragons in this event. None. Morphimagus is completely unbreedable without Co-Op if a player doesn’t have hidden dragons, meaning if they want to breed it or Arcane in the Rift, they can’t. Either change Morphimagus’ hidden requirement or add a hidden dragon with all of its required parents to this event. Please, please, please consider a massive rework/overhaul of hidden dragon combos! (It doesn’t help that neither of the parents fit the dragon...)
8. How much do you like Arcane (1 = I hate it, 5 = I love it!) - 1.5 - the only thing I like about it is that it was easy to clone, so I could focus on other things this week. I don’t hate it as my low score would suggest, I just don’t have any positive feelings towards it
Comments/feedback for Deca: I think a Hidden EoM ought to be added to the Rift in all events that have any hidden-element dragons, given they essentially have closed combos (as discussed in my comment for Waterwalker). Either that, or release a *permanent* hidden dragon that only requires *primary* elements/hybrids, so is possible to breed in the Rift.
5. How well does Arcane fit the theme of the event: 5
6. Rate Arcane’s design: 5
7. How would you rate Arcane’s breeding combo (MORPHIMAGUS + QUANTUM): 2
8. How much do you like Arcane: 4
Comments/feedback for Deca : Nice animation and I love how Arcane ‘hides’ in its tail. Arcane is a perfect fit for the Medieval theme. Medieval is all about Kings, Queens and Knights in shining armour. 😉 Arcane is very Regal in his purple and gold with fur trim. I like the simple, uncluttered design of Arcane without too much detail. The breeding combo isn’t great. Arcane doesn’t look like it belongs to either parent. I love Morphimagus but it has a complicated breeding parentage as it includes Starwing which is a chrysalis dragon.
The hiding animation of Arcane is exactly what players would like to see in hidden dragons rather than literally hiding in something.
4. Price (10,500 Magic): 5, a reasonable price for the first limited, given its 10% social cloning odds
5. How well does Arcane fit the theme of the event: 5
6. Rate Arcane’s design: 4, a simple yet regal design
7. How would you rate Arcane’s breeding combo (MORPHIMAGUS + QUANTUM): 3.5
8. How much do you like Arcane: 4
Comments/feedback for Deca: This dragon is simple but gives a “royal” vibe. However, the combo does not make sense to me, with Morphimagus as a parent. It is also difficult to obtain, having epic parents and grandparents. The 5 elements breeding combo lowers the breeding odds to 3% with some long fails. Even with a 10% social cloning odds, it was still not easy to breed.
1. 4/5 I like the floaty animation & the squished up bit 2. 4/5 My kind of placement - lots of it but not overbearing 3. 5/5 Happy with the size 4. 4/5 Shockingly reasonably priced 5. 3/5 I think I’m missing something regarding the fit with the theme (& that’s on me) 6. 3/5 Love the colour but that’s all that stands out really 7. 2/5 I’m definitely missing something regarding the combination (but not taking responsibility) 8. 3/5 Can’t quite figure Arcane out which, given the name, is quite apt I guess

Comments:
The concept of an arcane dragon is interesting, given I think many dragons are mysterious in DV. This one sort of feels Merlin-esque? I completely missed that it has a hidden animation until I read some other reviews. Now I'm left wondering what in the world Arcane thinks it's hiding as (besides Coldcoil). It's a Mystery! <enter mysterious theremin music> It's actually a mystery as to why Arcane doesn't have the Hidden element but has a hidden form, and Basket doesn't have a hidden form, but does have the Hidden element.
The traiting is great. The size is great. The price was excellent. Thematically, I guess the medieval world was full of mysterious people and magical thinking. He's a nice shade of royal purple. I feel like he could look a bit more arcane in some way. Deca artists are really good at making special effects. This one could have had some truly mysterious and magical animations to compliment its name. Beyond that, the dragon is drawn in a nice style. It's a very classic look and I'm a fan of that.
The breeding combo makes sense if Arcane is Merlin-esque. I just. Morphi? Really? Every time we complain about the ridiculous combos it feels like someone in the Vale says "Hold my iceberry tea!" and runs off to find a worse one.
Overall, I was underwhelmed by Arcane, given how little he feels 'arcane'. He's fine, but he doesn't spark joy.
1. Animation 4/5 Wish it would hide just a wee bit longer so i could actually SEE it. WHY isn't this a Hidden dragon???
2. Rift trait 3/5
3. Size (if you don’t own Arcane, please check a friend’s park) 3/5
4. Price (10,500 Magic) 3/5
5. How well does Arcane fit the theme of the event 4/5 i do believe that someone didn't want to use the name "Wizard".
6. Rate Arcane’s design 5/5
7. How would you rate Arcane’s breeding combo (MORPHIMAGUS + QUANTUM) 1/5 i am NOT a fan of breeding Hidden and Spellform dragons together. Each of these major busy elements has their own event ... or once did.
8. How much do you like Arcane (1 = I hate it, 5 = I love it!) 3/5
Comments/feedback for Deca: LOL #2 Loss of Lingerie
3 - Most of the animation is fine, just... why does it hide? I found out that it was a re-skin of the Derecho dragon but... I don't understand why that one hides either.
2. Rift trait
4 - It's not a hideous placement, but I can't help but feel like if the gold accents were traited instead it would look better.
3. Size (if you don’t own Arcane, please check a friend’s park)
4 - A tad bit on the smaller side, but that's not terrible.
4. Price (10,500 Magic)
4 - A bit too high for the first limited of an event, but matches the difficulty of its combo.
5. How well does Arcane fit the theme of the event
5 - Magic is medieval, I get it.
6. Rate Arcane’s design
4 - I prefer dragons with unique designs over ones made to fit over the models of other dragons, but it's honestly not that easy to tell and this dragon still looks good so it's okay.
7. How would you rate Arcane’s breeding combo (MORPHIMAGUS + QUANTUM)
1 - Both are too difficult to breed, if the dragon were released further into the event this combo would be fine, but as the first limited? It's a chop.
8. How much do you like Arcane (1 = I hate it, 5 = I love it!)
4 - Pretty good dragon bogged down only by its animation and being released too early into the event.

1. Animation: 3/5, fairly basic mostly, but I like the sort of curl-up that happens, very similar to a hidden dragon. I wish there was a little more of a magical or mysterious aspect to this dragon's animation given the name.
2. Rift trait: 4/5, Again basic, but not ugly or distracting. Good balance of traited and non-traited.
3. Size: 3/5, A little small, but it's pretty visible with its colouring.
4. Price (10,500 Magic): 3/5, understandable for a first limited but still kinda high.
5. How well does Arcane fit the theme of the event: 1/5, It's not particularly medieval, I'm a bit lost on this connection.
6. Design: 4/5, I like the swirls and the fun sort of "fins" rather than legs, plus the colour combination is interesting; the whole thing is fun and elegant, especially with the sort of "gilded" look. I just think the concept needed one final draft somehow, like mysterious arcane runes or symbols floating around or something. It just doesn't seem to connect to its own description, there's not much of an indication it holds any secret knowledge.
7. Breeding combo (MORPHIMAGUS + QUANTUM): 3/5 Very difficult to achieve for people who didn't already have a hidden dragon. I'm not really sure where quantum fits in, but morphimagus has some clear ties and the hidden dragon connection, but that only seems to show up in the animations, it doesn't have a hidden element itself which is odd.
8. How much do you like Arcane: 4/5: Solid design, fun concept and really interesting description, just needs a little extra expansion into the theme of arcane knowledge.
