You’ve analysed and examined every aspect of each event dragon. Now, let us know which Upheaval if the Medieval dragons brought the kingdom to your castle and the knight to your night.
If you’re new to the polls or the Forum, here are some helpful tips:
1. You must be a member to vote. This is a restriction by ProBoards and cannot be altered. An account is required to keep track of votes and to prevent multiple votes by anonymous guests.
2. When you vote, it is automatically recorded. There’s no Submit button. Backing out or clicking away from the thread will not undo your selection.
3. If you accidentally vote for a dragon or warm up to another dragon later, you have until May 10th to change your vote.
4. The poll will close on Friday, June 28th at 11.00 PM MDT.
Also, in addition to the dragon ratings, I will include player feedback for the event. If you have any comments, suggestions, complaints, or compliments regarding the event structure, features, etc, please post them here, and I’ll pass them on.
Many thanks to everybody who participated — it is greatly appreciated by all!

Only Plate and Nimue got my votes this time. Jester would’ve got my third vote if it weren't a reskin, and Kingstone would’ve got it if the sword actually looked like the “sword in the stone” rather than “the sword floating in a crevice of a mountain”, but I don’t think either of them deserved my vote as much as Plate and Nimue, which were two stunning dragons and among my favourites in the whole game.
-----
A very long one this time. I have a lot of thoughts. Some of them are fairly repetitive from previous events, but that’s only because the events themselves are so repetitive. Each section has been spoiler tagged cos otherwise this would take up way too much space.
School Deco: it just occurred to me while writing this that the school deco didn’t seem to make a return, unless I missed something. I can’t remember whether it counts towards Dragonarium Decoration completion, but if it does, Deca needs to find a way for people who didn’t get it during SM to get it, because otherwise anyone who didn't get it last year will never be able to complete that section.
Bugs: I’m glad another event was major-bug-free. It seems like Deca’s actually got on top of this, which is great.
Required dragons: thank you for adding Starwing, Pharaoh, Midday, Love and Rose to this event. I do think, if Fury is in this event again next year, Snowpocalypse and Winter need to be added as well (and to the Halloween event too), but if Deca doesn’t want to do that, Fury can just be added (along with Winter, and preferably Narcis and Hyperion) to the winter event instead. And of course, unless Honeybrew gets moved to the spring event or its combo is changed, Busby should be added to this event next year. But I’m just so glad that most required dragons were added. (It’s also great to see Elysium, Trimera and Shield get an event to call their own!)
Price: apart from Scribe, Professo, Construct and Margento, and the later limited prices, the prices were fairly decent this event. I have an awful foreboding feeling that this means the Paradise/Summer event will be horrendously expensive, though... Which reminds me. Please give us a better EC mechanic than treats and racing in the Paradise/Summer event (the next event). It gives so little EC in an event with way too many dragons. But please, we’re begging you, please don’t make it Donation Boards.
Combos: good for the most part, although it’s annoying that Fever was changed to Eve since it meant that combo had 6 elements rather than 5. Nice to see plenty of primary hybrids (even though Fever was lost along the way, though at least Eve is also permanent). Now that Starwing has finally been added to this event, Morphimagus + Quantum isn’t as horrible a combo, BUT if a player doesn’t have a hidden dragon traited, it’s essentially impossible to breed Morphimagus in the Rift this event. I do strongly think that dragons that require closed combos should always be avoided as required parents/elements, as should their descendants — this is most obviously Monoliths, Snowflakes, Galaxies and Chrysalis dragons, but this includes Hidden dragons (I explained why in detail on Waterwalker’s thread) and evolution dragons (without a lot of luck they actively require a player to buy something with EC, and getting them in the Rift is even harder). Please consider either adding a Hidden EoM that guarantees the dragon to be traited (like other limited EoMs) and appears in every single event that includes at least one hidden-element dragon, or, since most events have at least one hidden dragon, add a *permanent* hidden dragon that only requires *non-epic* elements or *permanent, non-closed-combo* dragons, to give people a starting point that isn’t the monolith-requiring hiddens, because monoliths also have closed combos.
Co-Op cloning odds: again with the rule that epic dragons absolutely have to have low Co-Op cloning odds. The only good thing about it is that it means rares always have 10% cloning odds. Please start using mostly odds in the 2%-10% range (preferably mostly 3%-8%) and especially please start giving epics better odds.
Misc.: I think the weather station and twilight tower should be cheaper this event (5k each if not less), because of how many of this event’s dragons require specific times or weather. Of the 13 dragons total that have a time/weather requirement, 11 are available to breed this event (either because they’re in it or they’re permanent); only Nosferatu and Aubergine aren’t. There’s so much to buy this event (not least Spellforms) that decreasing the prices of these two a little won’t cause too much harm to profits, if any. It’d also be cool if there could be a bundle price for both. Maybe they individually cost 5k but if you buy the bundle it costs 8k or 9k. Also, the default weather in this event should alternate between Fireflies and Blossoms, not Fireflies and nothing.

Now for three things that have all added to my sense that Deca aren't putting much effort in anymore. Not saying they aren’t putting in effort, just that that’s how it feels to me. I understand this is not the prominent view, especially in this community, but this is how I feel. Anyway, here goes...
Theme and new releases: nice enough but not particularly memorable imo. It probably didn’t help that I don’t know the shows/myths being referenced more than just basic knowledge of the premises, but there was nonetheless some wasted, very obvious potential with this event: especially given the loading screen, this could’ve been a house-related event, but it wasn’t, which was really disappointing for me. Even adding the house tents as decos would’ve been something, but we didn’t even get that. Outside of a couple references to non-DV things, it was yet another “hey, here are some new dragons, breed ’em” event. It would be so good to have something new. It doesn’t have to be ground-breaking, it just has to be something out of the ordinary! This was particularly disappointing/noticeable during this event because this is the one event that doesn’t have a repeated theme. Camping/stars is also fairly unfixed but it’s been pretty similar since Deca took over. This event did have two years in a row of being circus themed but other than that it’s basically been the “whatever we feel like doing” event. Deca could do basically anything with this event, both theme- and structure-wise, and it wouldn’t feel massively out of place, unless it was very close to the theme of a different event.
Reskins: even one an event is enough to make the new releases feel lazy, at least to me. As mentioned on Jester’s thread, if Deca wants an easier way to keep up with the fast-paced events, they should host more design contests and add more fan-made content. With future reskins, please give some in-game indication of it, either in the dragon’s description (maybe something along the lines of “the wizards think this is somehow related to the [copied dragon] dragons”) or by using the copied dragon in its combo if it’s reasonable to do so (i.e. the copied dragon is easy to breed and it wouldn't make the reskin too difficult to breed). This is both for honesty’s sake and to give an in-universe reason why the dragons are so similar. Going forward, if reskins are going to be a common thing — and there has been at least one in every event since winter (and I didn’t notice Icecarade and Arcane initially, so it’s usually at least two every event since winter), so it looks like they will be — something needs to be done to make them more interesting than simply reskins.
EC mechanic: yay something other than nothing, boo the fact that that something is donation boards AGAIN... it’s just adding to the sense that Deca is just bashing out events. I’m not saying they are! But it 10000% feels that way, and that’s really unhelpful in terms of player retention. If Deca is going to have more than one Donation Board event in a year, they need to add some kind of extra organisation to the social menu. Storing up twins/unwanted EoM rewards is the only way to participate a lot in DBs without decreasing how much you can breed for event dragons, but at the moment it’s very difficult/impossible to keep track of what you have in your social menu. If you do try to, dragons from a particular friend are listed from most to least recent, but EoM rewards are dispersed, and you still have to hunt through the entire menu if you got at least one twin since you last logged in, since the in-game pop-up only shows you the first one you got since you logged out last. Either add a fully-functioning element search filter like in the markets/quests/breeding caves etc., or, if that’s too difficult, allow us to sort by most/least recently received, as a whole rather than just from a particular friend. If it can’t be done because the game’s code is old, then please stop relying on Donation Boards as an EC mechanic. We’re all sick of them at this point, so there’s absolutely no point in you continuing to use them so often anyway! With all this said, I was glad to hear from adlerist that Eggy Hatchy will probably appear at some point in the future. I just have to hope I’m still playing when it returns to us from wherever it’s been on holiday...
In summary: if we’re being completely honest, the only thing that actually substantially changes between events nowadays is the new releases (obviously themes change but the structure rarely changes even slightly, so if you treat new releases separately, themes are only really different in name and loading screen/event island alone), and even a few of the new dragons are just reskins now... Something needs to change, or you’re going to lose players, or at least have a near net 0 gain. Loyal very-long-term players might keep playing, and people who’ve been playing for less than three years or so might not be bored of it yet, but there’s a large group in the middle who I feel are most at risk of getting bored and not having enough of an emotional attachment to the game to mitigate the monotony.

The following stuff can be passed on to Deca if the mods feel it useful, but this is mostly me just posting to get my feelings out, and this felt like the most reasonable place to put it, since it is technically feedback about the direction the game seems to be going in, at least judging by how I’m feeling.
To put it bluntly, I properly realised during this event that I’ve fallen out of love with this game. The reskins haven’t helped in the slightest, but there are a bunch of other things that have added to this feeling. I wonder whether my annoyance at the reskins was more a symptom than a cause, though they definitely added to my loss of enjoyment. Massive overuse of Donation Boards really hasn’t aided my feelings towards the game either. I actually kinda like the mechanic, despite it having the major con that you have to decide between breeding for event dragons as much as possible or trying for the extra EC, but it’s just so repetitive now that I, frankly, hate it.
I completed the Dragonarium once, yeeeeaaaaars ago, not too long after it was added, but I wanted to complete it once with the many hundreds of dragons we have now, and have been trying since about this time last year. With that in mind, I’m going to get the final few dragons I don’t have just to say I’ve done it, and at that point I think I’ll call it quits. Which is a massive shame, since I’ve played pretty much since release (I can’t remember exactly when I started but it was late 2011/early 2012 I think. It’s been a w h i l e lol).
I haven’t decided for 100% certainty whether I’ll definitely stop playing altogether yet, but I know I’m definitely not going to be trying to maintain red fire once I get it. There are a variety of reasons why, the main one being that too many of the new dragons nowadays are at best mediocre for me. It’s just not a joy to collect them anymore, not even for the aim of getting red fire. It’s a chore, and one that doesn’t stop because of how fast new releases come out.
DV isn’t pay-to-win like pretty much all other mobile games nowadays, but for me, it just seems to have lost its heart. Which, honestly, is kinda worse in some ways. I know most people here won’t agree with me, but to me, it really does feel like Deca are just bashing out events now, solely because they’ll lose revenue if they don’t, possibly precisely because it’s so free-to-play-friendly that they need new content to encourage people to buy stuff. That may or may not come from a good place of wanting to keep the game going, but either way it’s getting to the point where it’s completely ruining the game for me. I’d rather stop playing soon, when I still have fond memories of when I really loved this game, than try to keep going for a year or two, get so sick of it that I literally can’t force myself to open the game anymore, and leave on a really sour note.
Like I said I realise most people on this forum don’t share the same sentiment, and that’s completely fine, we’re all allowed our own opinions. I just want to get my feelings out. Cos it’s incredibly sad that I’m losing the game that has meant so much to me all these years.
If I do keep playing, just casually, maybe I’ll still partake in the forum, but posting here might just encourage me to play long-term goals again for n o s t a l g i a and I’m really not sure that’s a good idea since there are more meaningful things I could be doing with my spare time than trying to scrape some minuscule droplets of joy out of a game I no longer think has any to give me.
If you’re considering trying for red fire, I personally would highly suggest not doing so, even if you’re already pretty close (I was when I started). It was definitely the main cause of the beginning of my loss of enjoyment, although it took a while to hit. But that’s just my own experience, and I’m sure many others will feel the opposite.
-----
Anyway. In summary, I didn’t enjoy this event. Plate and Nimue were the only parts of it I really liked (other than getting the best dragon in the game AKA cold-traited Lightmare) rather than either liked a little bit (Kingstone), tolerated (the theme, Honeybrew, Arcane and Darkarm) or kinda disliked (DBs, and Jester/Armor to an extent).
I don’t think that’s purely this event’s fault, but even if I still wanted to play this game, this event would’ve been disappointing for me. While this event happened to coincide with my definitive loss of love for this game, the event itself definitely played a part in my realisation that I no longer enjoy DragonVale, after 12-or-so long years. In hindsight I reckon I stopped enjoying it near the beginning of this year (or maybe around Into the Greenhouse because frustrations with Waterwalker probably didn’t help), but Snowy Winter Ball, Flower Festival and Bountiful Picnic were nice enough for me that I didn’t really feel it. Unfortunately this event just wasn’t my thing, which is probably the core reason why I suddenly noticed I don’t enjoy DV as a whole anymore.
In a way I am glad I haven’t got red fire yet, as even though I just want it to be over now, I hope that the Paradise event, which might be when I get my last few dragons, will allow me to finish this journey on a positive note. I love all things aquatic, and we might get the first event in a while with no reskins since it’s probably going to involve at least a couple fan-made designs, so I’m somewhat hopeful.
All this to say, I’m very glad people on the forum seem to have really enjoyed this event! And thanks as always to everyone who posts information.
I really liked the range and variety of mediaeval themed dragons, from armour through sword and mead to Lady of the Lake. My absolute favourite was the Monty Python inspired Darkarm which really made me laugh. There were some dragons which were very tricky to breed or get traited versions, so I would appreciate reconsideration of the breeding combinations, breeding percentages or the proportion of rift unrifted dragons.
I particularly welcomed the Twin Weekend and thought its timing, early in the event when there was no limited to breed, was ideal. I'm still making steady progress toward Blue Fire, currently 88 twins to go.
A big thank you to Deca for the event, to adlerist for the wise and inspiring input, to MinyaZ for hosting the last call competition and to all the forum moderators and owners for all their care and minding.
Upheaval of the Medieval was an interesting theme for this event. There were some great dragons that fit well with the theme and some outstanding eggs.
I was excited to see the House tents on the loading screen for the event. But I was disappointed that the event didn’t introduce any new house dragons. Also disappointed that there were no new Olympus dragons added but had new Treasure and Apocalypse dragons released. While dragons don’t need to be released in their ‘traditional’ event, this was the perfect event to release some new Olympus and house dragons.
Please consider how many elements are in a breeding combo when setting them. The more elements in a combo, the more dilute the breeding odds become, and it becomes extremely difficult to breed the dragon in the allotted week. Most of the dragons in this event had a difficult breeding combo either due to the number of elements contributed or the parents that were required.
Overall pricing was very reasonable for this event. The beginning dragons were very fairly priced as was the first limited dragon. This gave players a chance to earn enough magic to buy Arcane if they couldn’t breed it. It did mean that subsequent limited dragons had a bigger jump in price, which players don’t like. But the total price for all the dragons was very reasonable when compared to previous events of a similar duration.
Not event related.
Will Dragon Draw ever have a themed draw again?
Will there be another Dragons Week soon? It seems to be a long time since the last one.
Only one dragon received my vote, because Nimue flies head and shoulders above the rest, I love her. Some of the others were pretty cool - Honeybrew in particular - but no one else gets my vote this time.
I really feel like the house theme was barely glanced at this year, would've loved a new set. There's a number of epic elements without a set of house dragons!
As overall feedback, I'm generally not loving the breeding combos - no comment on odds or elements, but theme wise I love it when parents relate to the child in appearance and theme
Edited to add: the Twin weekend was great, the timing seemed to work well

Currently breeding for whatever twins I can possibly get my hands on
The theme and all the dragons. It is refreshing to have a new theme for this event, instead of following the same old themes from previous years.
The twin weekend was timed well, before the release of the limiteds.
Thank you for upgrading the Celestial, Meridian, and Olympus habitats, as well as adding elements to the Monolith and Chrysalis habitats.
Prices for the dragons are more reasonable
Suggestions and Requests:
Please please use breeding combos that have less than 5 elements. But if you must, can you please increase the breeding odds? Take Armor for example, the 6 element breeding combo reduces the breeding odds from 3.15% to 1.8%, and a 1% social cloning odd doesn’t help either.
I know this has been mentioned ad nauseum, but I just want to say it one more time. Please give us a way to obtain traited versions more easily. I would go for any of the following: increase the traited odds in the rift if not to 100%, let us wish for a traited version, or even convert with gems from a non traited to traited.
Any new decos are very much welcome. However, the current event decos are a little bit of a let down, compared to previous ones. (Btw, love the picnic table from the last even).
Some of us are not a big fan of the donation boards. But if you must, can you please put a sorting function in the gift menu? It would be great if we don’t have to scroll through hundreds of items in the gift to collect the right dragon(s) needed for the boards.
Thank you for a fun event. I love all the back stories of the medieval dragons, with some great references (Darkarm, Kingstone, Nimue). What a pleasant surprise to have an EE break, with more islands and some interesting new habitats. Thank you! Looking forward to the next event.
I voted for Plate, Armor and Darkarm (in no particular order).
First off, thanks for the Twin Weekend! It was well timed. Secondly, a big old BOO for the return of Donation Boards. I used them for the first half of the event while I wasn't sure I'd make enough to cover the dragons and habitats/decos I wanted and then I stopped. It's just too much work to look through my hundreds of gift eggs and I'd rather save my etherium than breed for whatever's in my donation board. The one good thing about Donation Board this time? I didn't get a single epic board (as far as I know). I did get a few ghostly dragons on the board. Not impressed with that.
On to the event - Deca rolled out some nice dragon designs! They all fit well into the DV universe. I enjoyed seeing what Deca came up with related to the medieval theme and I was blown away by the inclusion of a Monty Python joke. I hope a few players have taken the time to watch Holy Grail now and understand the reference.
I'm probably one of few that didn't mind that we didn't get a collection of House dragons. I'm really not sure why the loading screen was designed to suggest this event would be related to Houses. We could at the very least have had House tent decos. It's been so long since an event was truly unique, us players seem to be grasping at any possibility of something fun and different. I know it's tough, but Deca, please consider choosing one event someday to spend some time and money on to do something -ELSE-. This copypasta is going to lose players eventually.
Galaxy EOM. You know what I'm going to say. Dupe protect rift traited galaxy dragons or add them into events, or SOMETHING. The current conditions are not ok. The cap for Galaxy EOMS is highway robbery. Just gross. I don't know why this is the hill Deca is willing to die on, but they need to reconsider. It's infuriating. Someday when I quit this game, or it finally folds, these two last Galaxy dragons will be the only dragons I still don't have traited. Grr.
The decos were underwhelming. I was hoping that they'd be animated. No such luck. And why several hay bales? Why not something else? Even an animated wizard suit of armor would be fun (armor for the beard and hat?). Felt lazy. I appreciated the return of so many habitats.
Deca outdid themselves with the pedestals. Darkarm's is stunning and I loved the cartooniness of Plate, Armor and Kingstone's eggs. Nice job!
I'm looking forward to the next event and can't wait to see how Deca's artists interpreted whichever contest entries they chose to work with. In the meantime, thanks for the new Expansion Extravaganza! How lucky we are to have another two islands available! Please don't give us a Dragon Week when the next event starts. You know we'll complain that it should have been this week. I have nothing to breed for this week. Little to do besides collect etherium. If you want us engaged, use the down time for Dragon Week instead of bombarding and overwhelming us during an event.
Thanks for reading!
(Huge thanks to Adlerist and mods for all their dedication and hard work)
I voted for Plate and Armor. I would've voted for the Darkarm Dragon too because I enjoyed its design but I don't like Monty Python so I just ended up not voting for a third.
Also I'm happy about the habitat upgrades though I would've preferred a limit increase instead because before I was planning on filling a Celestial Habitat with 4 of the Bright Wild Nights dragons and a Meridiem Habitat with the other 4 but now I feel like I'm wasting their potential by not filling up all 6 slots. Though increasing the slots instead of the limit means I didn't have to use more EC so that's a plus and I definitely appreciate the Zodiac element being added.
This event was a success for me, I ended up breeding everything I didn't already have including all the new dragons and the three I didn't get (Margento, Darkmatter, and Fury) I claimed from the end of event gift (Margento) or bought (Darkmatter and Fury). The rest of my EC I used on getting the rest of the Giant Dark and Light Reward Habitats and Giant Rainbow, Moon, and Sun Habitats as well as the new decorations. I ended the event with only 41 EC to spare and I already had at least 1 of each of the spellform pieces, so it all worked out perfectly for me.
That being said, I do wish habitat prices were more uniform. I understand that the Sun Habitats were added later and their prices were probably just carried over from the Dunes of Magic event last year, but I'd prefer if the Giant Moon Habitat's price was lowered to match that of the Giant Sun Habitat. I know the reason it wasn't was because players might have already purchased Giant Moon Habitats but I don't really care, there are solutions for that and even if no refunds were given out, future events always have things at different prices anyway so it's not like it's some out of this world crazy idea. The Giant Rainbow Habitat doesn't have to match because it's not a counterpart to the Sun Habitat the way that the Moon Habitat is, but I would've preferred it did.
I do think some of the dragons in this event are obscenely hard to breed for, particularly the spellform dragons. I like breeding new dragons in the Rift because they're more versatile there and I was able to get them all there except for Arcane because I was never able to get a Stella Dragon with a trait to breed a Morphimagus Dragon with a trait.
I enjoyed this event a lot, it's definitely a step-up from last event where I already had everything before it started and it prepared me for the next event where I'm missing a TON of dragons.
Lastly, I don't know if this would be the right place to post for suggestions for the upcoming event but I was wondering if the community reps would be willing to advocate for the Sun and Treasure elements being added to the Paradise Habitats? As it is now, every dragon in the Paradise category can be put in them except for Vibe, Trove, and Dazzle and adding those 2 elements would fix that and still keep the number of elements to 6 and under (Spooky Habitat has the most elements with 6 aside from the Omnitats).
First off, thanks for the Twin Weekend! It was well timed. Secondly, a big old BOO for the return of Donation Boards. (Huge thanks to Adlerist and mods for all their dedication and hard work)
I second all of this!!
Twin weekend was awesome! I hope we get one during every event.
Also, please, give us a break from donation boards. I like it, but I'm hoping for some variety. I don't know about others, but I kind of miss Eggy Hatchy, even though I used to not like it in my earlier days.
--- I voted for Kingstone, Jester, and Honeybrew. Kingstone was the coolest representation of this event's theme, and what an awesome little dragon! Honeybrew was just *chef's kiss* perfect, and Jester was just an adorable little guy. I did like all of the new dragons, but those were my top!
