Hey everyone! I know this isn't a dragon piece, but I'm so excited I had to share! One of my designs was accepted in an online T-shirt contest!! Winning relies on audience voting over the next week. I would love if people are willing to go score my entry - 5 is considered best. I'll understand if you don't want to create an account, which is required to vote/score, but if you are willing I'd be grateful!
Also, to give you a dragon to look at, here's the first in my seasonal dragon series. The dragon in this was inspired by the butterfly dragon. I wasn't fond of the colors BFS used, and I figured there is probably more than one breed of butterfly dragon. The wizards just haven't discovered them all!

I've gone ahead and "signed up" for this on the superfanart.com site. Really it just took me to an a screen that filled out a default e-mail. Got an automatic response which is basically just saying the same thing as the article. On the artist end... there's just not enough information! I feel like it's an interesting opportunity, but I just don't know what they're looking for... or what the legalese is behind this. I'll let y'all know here about anything I find out, in case other artists are interested in this!
(The e-mail did refer to me as a 3D Artist... which is a bit of a downer. Thinking it means that they want work done in a 3D program which I do not have... I can draw various angles in 2D and I can sculpt/crochet in 3 dimensions... but I don't have a 3D art program!)

I also did the same exact thing..haha.. I agree! There isn't much information yet and I'm confused on what they are asking for. Is it like a drawing or something else (like something made with clay etc)? It also states that, "Get your designs ready and visit SuperFanArt.com on August 22 for instructions on how to upload your work for promotion and sale". Guess we would have to wait until August 22 for more information.
Very interesting article. Looks like Hasbro got their hands on a 3D printing machine for artists to produce and sell their fan art from there.
I'm not into 3D modeling in comparison to cartooning and 2D art, and don't think that I would have the patience to model an entire dragon from simple polygon pieces. I don't know, maybe it will happen in the future when a friend teaches me some new tricks in Blender in a few weeks. I have a tendency to start projects that end up going way over my head

Ellie, are you sure that they will need a digitised model ? It could also be that you can send them pictures from your model. ( out of several angles) And if you win the comp you will have to send them your model. As far as I know there are also 3D printers that can scan the source object.

Yup! It sure is an interesting thing.
As Crumble mentioned, I'm also not sure if they are asking for a picture of 2D art where they would transform it into 3D or they actually need an image of 3D art. Would be nice if they could use 2D art.
I have a feeling that they'll want to at least start with digital 3D models, since it looks like they haven't actually hired 3D artists yet. I'm no artist, but I imagine it takes quite a lot of work to convert 2D art to 3D, so they're probably not equipped with that type of expertise right now. Otherwise we might already be seeing official DV figures at this point!
GCID: rionhow Thanks to ElektronX for my Light Rift avatar!
From the looks of the website and infomation pertaining to the article, it looks like that they want a digital 3D model. I don't think that 2D art will be accepted for this kind of project. BFS already has a handful of 3D artists, but I wouldn't expect them to work on this sort of thing.
Edit: Been doing a bit of research on the topic. Most spectators are saying that Hasbro wants to get a grip on the 3D printed industry by encouraging artists to create and sell their (Hasbro's) product.

I ended up signing up for it too. I don't know if I'll participate in it, but would love to see where this goes.
I tried starting on a Plant dragon head myself It really is just all a matter of time and patience with building, shaping, refining, smoothing, and rendering the model.
I don't think I have time at the moment to work on it now, but I might be able to give it a shot in a few weeks/months.
Still waiting to hear back from the SuperFanArt site. I think they are suppose to send an artist contract and extra info in the next email. I still don't even know if I'm old enough to even participate in this sort of thing!
