Thank you, Ex ! It was really hard work. First I had to force my way through blender and then I had to learn even more to get it 3d printed. There was a moment when I almost gave up : i had planned to use the material full color plastic. It was only when I uploaded my first model that I realized that this material is in pilote status and not accessible.( I had overseen this ) So the only colourful material at the moment is full color sandstone which requires much thicker walls and details. I had to completely redesign the whole dragon because the thin spikes are not realizable in sandstone ( unless you make it really big which would get expensive). I kept the old design though - maybe the coloured plastic wil get printable in the future. As you can see, I'm sort of proud to have finished this project. It's a pity that there aren't more DV dragons on shapeways yet.

Great job! I envy your talent and hard work. I am pretty sure we will see more DV dragons on Shapeways. I am thinking to ask my daughter these DV dragons as my Christmas present.
Agreed I've been thinking for some time we should ban ElektronX, and for that matter wapatango, from POTM
Main GCID: GregDarcy Secondary: GregDarcyToo All gems friends spoken for. Happy to accept friends for party hats. I blame Apple's auto incorrect for all my typos. I actively discourage challenges. All challengers are unfriended.
I think that BM is a bit under the weather. But I am NOT going to POTM this even though it deserves it. You feature far too prominently in that list as it is.

I just realized that I never shared my first attempts at dragon art with you guys! Or did I? Things have been so crazy the last few months that I can't remember... Anyway, in case I didn't...
These aren't technically DV dragons, but they were inspired by DV. Specifically, I'm not enamored with DV's butterfly dragon so I decided to create my own, plus the seasonal dragons made me think of creating mine in different seasonal "habitats". Enjoy!
The first one I created was Dragondala Summer- young dragons enjoying the warm days amid the morning glories. I skipped around a bit. Dragondala Spring was next, with Mama dragons encouraging the hatchlings emerging from their eggs amid the daffodils. Then romance blossoms along with the glorious fall mums in Dragondala Fall. And finally, the couples cozy up to keep each other warm in Dragondala Winter. I think they chose the holly bush because the spikes on the leaves mimic their wings. Maybe butterfly dragons are color blind and thought they would be hidden among the leaves?

Very creative and I love them all! I think my favorite is either the fall mandala with all of the chrysanthemums or the spring with the daffodils, but it's really hard for me to choose just one. Do you use regular colored pencils or watercolor pencils to color these? The gradients on them are very smooth.

Thanks, ElektronX! I have the same problem - usually the one I'm currently working on becomes my favorite! They are regular colored pencils - Prismacolor brand. I love gradients and blending - the soft cores of the Prismacolors make it pretty easy to do while still getting vivid color.
