Hang in there....I felt the same about 20 attempts before I got the 48hr. I even double checked the thread to make sure I was using a combination that could yield an Astro. Welder/safety gets the best bang for your buck in terms maximising your Astro hunting.....assuming you don't need other breeds.
After a significant amount of unadulterated welder on safety action, I have finally landed my 48hr.
A nice fringe benefit was unlocking science bots.

Me too. I tried a Flower with Safety, but they are longer fails so I guess since you had success, I'll go back to making Welders and Safeties again. Sigh. Any idea how many attempts it took? I've lost count, but I do know it's been days with this combo.

Thank goodness we have the "permission" to do one breed for a new hybrid when we level up! That gave me the opportunity to add science hybrids to the mix to advance at least a little in the game.
Can we really do a science and something. I've been on level 16 for quite a while still trying welder and safety. Pretty soon I will 17 and haven't been able to work on much science bots cuz I still haven't gotten a dumb astro. Stoopid bots. I must be related to lostgirl or something. Lol

Absolutely; the contest requirement is to do two hybrids as much as you can, with allowances for the first breeding with each new basic bot that comes available. It seemed silly to restrict people from advancing in the game when we didn't even know the requirements for the Astro.
I was just wondering this morning whether it had to be two different hybrids. Thanks for answering that question. I'll keep plugging away with a Pure Element combo.
My number of breeds was about 150 to 200, using Welder+Safety, before I got Astro.

That's a lot!! I stopped counting. I also am using Safety and Floodlight for a while so I can get some other fails. If I'm working, I'll use a Combo with long fails, but then when home use the safety and Welder for the short fail.

Just keep using hybrids, any kind it seems. Use a couple combos that may give you something you don't already have, or something good for selling. It will come.

Yippee!!!! I just got one!!! I threw in Carrier and Mole just to break the routine of Safety and Floodlight/Welder, and got the long timer!!!! Perfect timing!!!!
