How big, in "squares," are the islands and various buildings, habitats, etc?
I don't kow if anyone has put together a comprehensive list, but all that info is available in the individual building/habitat/decoration descriptions on the wiki.
You are right. I did a major redo and positioned the element eggs around their respective gold shrines and the gem eggs on Royal Island (Crown Jewels). Opened up major acreage for future development. What city planners call infill.
Excellent Will there be pictures forthcoming?
Really enjoying this update, nice job BFS. And going full circle back to BS, you have added so much to this update: energy, enthusiasm, information and humor. Great job!
And thank you for giving me a place to spend my energy, show my enthusiasm and distribute this information!
Let's be honest, not everyon can put up with so much BS
I have noticed the Giant Light Habitats seem to be MUCH smaller than the Giant Water, etc.
I've got a question too. Looking around parks today (Magic gathering for dark) I was struck by a gorgeous decoration. It looks like a black "Sun" in the middle, suspended in a gold Semi-circle. Is that the Umbral Sculpture? Is it associated with a limited or always around?

Yes, and it only shows like that when the eclipse dragons are available.
Trying to catch up on everything, feeling a bit left out because light was released overnight, and then RL ie work intervened. I only have one light egg hatching in one park and one breeding in the other. And I don't want to use up my meagre gem store
Kindle park1: nearly all dragons are frolicking in their habitats! (A Thorny little problem to resolve...)
Smartphone park2: Geode, a dragon with rocks in! Still to breed 4 dragons...
It's all so exciting!!! I crowned my first light rift and called her Ramoth, and am FOY-ing my second and calling her Wirenth. I can't wait for Mnementh and Canth to make their appearance!
Can't believe it took me this long to use these names. Good to have dragons worthy of them though

OOOh. Good idea. (Says Vonfirmath, proud brown of rider Tembaly, Telgar Weyr, Fifth Pass.)
Now I need to find a Meleketh.

While I could simply do this by brute force as I gain experience in game, I'm sure that someone else must have already done it.

I ask because I'd like to pre-plan my eventual island design as opposed to rearranging things all the time as I discover how big they are.
(It's actually sort of fun to rework things on the fly, but sometimes it can become tiresome when you have a new toy that you want to place NOW.)
While as BS says, this information is on the wiki (http://dragonvale.wikia.com/wiki/DragonVale_Wiki), it doesn't really matter. Just when you think you have it all worked out, BFS will bring out a new type of epic, or a new decor or ... And you will have to accept yet again that Robbie Burns got it right. Again.

My first ever Plant dragon is called Zaranth ;D

Gosh this is time consuming! Destroyed my egg island and placed all the elements eggs near relevant habitats. Have now an almost empty island which host light habitats (one under construction) and the dark stuff will ge going there too. Breeding these new light hybrids is a bit difficult, got several of the longest ones and still struggling for one Heat. Have decided that am no longer running after eggs, if they come, they come as fails on third fail, there is just not sufficient room available. Still not decided what to do with the special eggs (events and gemstone eggs).

When I speak of using gems it is for speeding up of breeding, never have bought one using them. No fun there and ironically right after I posted that I couldn't get a glass, of course I got one in both breeding habitats. Guess I just needed a little whine with my cheese.
Looking around and enjoying life!
All Dragons are safely in their habitats or in the HC

Since Light and Dark are opposites, I have no intention of putting them on the same island. That would be bad juju once the boosts are available (I am assuming the Light boost will not be available until some time after Dark arrives).
So I'll be doing five "main" islands that are each double boosted.

Pern!!! It has been so long since I have read a dragon riders of Pern book. My mom owned them and I re-read her copies all the time. I think it is past time I begin my own collection. Love the use of names.

Overnight or Longterm Breeding
I just noticed that Light + Plant might be good for overnight or longterm breeding. There are only two possibilities: Luminous takes 13 hours and sells for 2.8m and Meadows takes 9 hours and sells for 2.5m.

New egg positioning - a little cluttered looking, but I can live with it. I'm with Viviane. I'm going to pursue eggs anymore, but it took a long time to get all of these so I'm going to hang on to them.

OK, last one I promise. I placed the Gem dragon eggs on the Royal Island where my 23 crown dragons reside. BTW, crowning these dragons is my biggest tactical error playing DV. You don't gain anything after you have the horse power to compete in the Colesseum and mountains of resources are consumed. My #2 error was leveling all dragons to 15. Big waste of resources except to gain Gold shrines and to generate some coin producers.
I'm still chronically broke because of these mistakes.

The islands look great, Poppy!
I'm chronically gem broke because I lack patience. LOL But I too leveled nearly all my dragons to 15, and that does eat a fair amount of DC & treat resources. The alternative though would have been to do something like a Panlong Island to raise DC, and that never interested me.
