Currently incubating my 8th LY dragon. I'm getting sick of them. I've kept 4, one egg and sold the rest. I bought the Apocolypse as it was reasonably cheap and then I didnt have to spend time trying to breed it. currently trying to get the rest of the gemstones, Only have 1 topaz, 2 turquoise and a ruby, so need the rest. Only have Sakura and Paper to go from the others. Oh and silver, platinum and rainbow, but theres no hurry for those, can breed for them after these LE dragons are gone.
I've mentioned this before, but it's seeming more and more like Backflip Studios is getting ready to wind down DV pretty soon. This month feels like the games climax, kind of like the final bursts at the fireworks show. Hopefully it's not just extended denouement moving forward. Sure is fun this month though.

I hope you are wrong. I'm going to feel really like a dupe if I spent real money on a game right before they shut it down!
May I ask why you "need" a 2nd LYD? Guess I need to refocus!
You need 2 Leap Year Dragons to be able to breed more Leap Year Dragons after they expire from the market place.
Right now, you can breed a Leap Year with a Rainbow and have a 1 in 10 chance of breeding another Leap Year. After January 2nd, Breeding a Leap Year and a Rainbow will never result in another Leap Year.
Thanks, but not understanding why you need multiple LYD's. 1 maybe, but why would you want anymore than that? Do they have special powers or something?

They have gem dragons through april and probably a few more rares for obscure events and another of the special dragons like kairos. After that, unless they add a new layer to the game, it seems played out. I suppose they can add more elements and more islands and try to drag it longer, but I've said before, they need a new layer to the game to perpetuate a long term interest. If not for this community, there is only so much interesting in breeding Dragon of the Week over and over.

I like to have two of all the limited so I can breed them in the future to get more if I want. So two leap years mean unlimited leap years.

I'm also going for a second Leap Year dragon as well. Mainly my main purpose for having 2 is the ability to breed them again, as they won't be back for a very long time (4 more years). I find them extremely useful for cash income and their low breeding times just compliment to it as well. Others just want another one for maybe an egg or a turbo baby for their collection. Other than that, they don't have any powers besides being another awesome color palate of the Rainbow dragon.
Yay!! I got my first Apocalypse finally. Boy that was beginning to worry me. I've had a pretty lucky day today. My lightning shrine turned gold got my second leap year and butterfly with an Apocalypse in the nest and a silver breeding.
Has anyone managed to breed a Love dragon yet? I've been trying constantly for 3 days & have given up on one site so that I can break it up a bit and try for the second Clover that I failed to get earlier in the year. My daughter has also been trying for longer as this is the one dragon she's wanted right from the moment she started playing, but neither of us has managed to get one yet. I'm not too worried for myself as I can buy the 2 Love dragons and the Clover I need if it gets too near the deadline, but my daughter has lots of upgrades she still needs her gems for. Am beginning to think I'm using the wrong combo of Flower and Lightning/Storm/Cactus. Does anyone have the odds for breeding a Love dragon?

Don't have the odds, but that's the right combo. Keep on keeping on.

Wow... this has got to be my longest fail streak so far! Since the 21st, my attempts for Sapphire and Peridot eggs have all been in vain! I also tried mixing in possible combos for Bloom and Sakura every now and then to no avail. So I believe some whining is in order... so here goes... Whine! Whine! Whine! It's played out for those who have been playing for 12 months. But there are new players starting this game all the time. And apart from this obscure time now, they have 12 months of dragons ahead of them to get. The Wiggles haven't been playing to the same audience for the last two decades. It's constantly renewing. Backflip Studios didn't just release this game on Android and Kindle because they're about to wrap it up. They want a whole new market of players. That's where the money is to be made. As you point out, the old timers are about to give the game away, and have probably stopped spending money on it. I've collected 1000+ gems because I have nothing to spend them on, not like those who are going nuts now trying to breed so many limiteds. I've only got Emerald to get, and May isn't that far away if I don't get it this year.
And you know that there will be horoscope or something else monthly for the old timers to get, probably starting in March to get a bit of overlap with the gemstones. There will be two new elements released before long which will create another 18 dragons for them to release. There's plenty more for them to do.
I think the feelings expressed about wrapping up the game is more from the side of the player rather than the company. Which is fine. Times change. People move on. They make their accomplishments and think it's time to try other things. Seriously, playing a game non-stop for 12 months is just ridiculous. I couldn't fathom playing something every day for a whole year when I was kid. DragonVale is obviously something special. But nothing lasts forever.
Oh, and Merry Christmas everyone. I hope you all have a Cool Yule.

Of course, Fletch, it is entirely from the point of view of a longer time player. But, it would be interesting to see a new layer added. I thought about horoscope, etc. too, but is is just more dragon of the week. I wonder if there is something they can do to keep interest from the longer times players?
I have been playing DV for a year and am not tired of it nor do I see it winding down. Maybe it's just me but I still have fun moving stuff around and trying to get the new dragons. I've gotten tired of other games but not this one.
NOW I am still unable to get Equinox. I know it says Blazing with Water/water Hybrid. I've tried over and over since it came back. Is there a best combo to use? Hoping to get this one this time!

With over a foot of fresh powder on the ground and sunny blue skies - and five grandkids age seven and under - Central Oregon is a Christmas winter wonderland. The Cousin Posse went on their annual Christmas decoration sleigh ride (Volvo station wagon) last night. I told them to watch for dragons and the four year old swore he saw a Reindeer Dragon. He has been known to, umm, exaggerate at times.
