With the new month, comes a new installment of POTM. It works like this:
You find a post you like and you nominate it for Post of the Month. You do this by quoting the post and adding the comment "Post of the Month" or if you think you can't pull it off, simply "POTM". A Mod will move your POTM Reply to this thread. Conversely you can right click on the "Link to Post" at the bottom of each post
and Copy Link Location. Then post in this thread with "Post of the Month" (or "POTM" if you think you can), right click in the thread and Paste. You cannot nominate your own post ... I mean c'mon ... that's just really lame ... no matter how cool/funny/clever/poignant you think you were. Each post can only be nominated once. The first person to do so gets the nod. On May 1st (or thereabouts, I mean, we're all working folks here, well most of us) we'll make a Poll with all the nominated threads and everyone here will be invited to vote for their favourite thread. You'll have about a week to vote. So about the 7th of May we'll have a winner, or more accurately, two, because the original poster AND the person who nominated them wins. What do you win? Gems of course. And now Crystals. The mods will give a gem and a crystal (if they're playing Gizmonauts) to both of the people that win the poll.
So, to sum up. - Make good posts. - Nominate good posts. - Vote for posts. - Profit.

Just popped in quickly to say thanks for speeding up the metal kettle that I had absolutely no idea I was Oh My!ing till I saw a long list of peeps speeding up Oh My!ing lab appear on my mail message list and then hey Presto, metal kettle pod appeared, thought it might have been an April's fool from The Overlord! Sorry I haven't been as prompt to return speed ups (all up to date now I think, thank goodness for free WiFi) but I'm on vacation visiting family (and comparing notes and DV parks with my mum!) and friends these 2 weeks. Thanks again!
This forum rose out of what amounted to a free speech movement.
Many of us were active members of another DV forum. The moderators there tended to have a heavy hand and we were often scolded for expanding the boundaries of the discussion. After I tried to start a book discussion thread they banned me for life.
So I thought why not start a new forum with a broad scope and moderators who worked for the members and guests with a spirit of Aloha. So I sat this one up.
But there was one major problem - I had no access to the other forum or to anyone there. I had an idea. I knew that a number of members of the other forum visited my park often and I used pavers to spell out my email address on one of my islands. It was spotted by Vivianne who contacted me and we had our Trojan Horse into the other forum.
Secret Agent Vivianne contacted me and that opened the doors. She had Fletch get in touch with me and he turned out to the be the major moving force at this new forum. When folks heard about this one they got increasingly mischievous at the other forum and many criticized the staff there for banning me for life. They immediately were in turn banned for life. Fletch was banned, others followed - this became the Elba of Dragonvale. As folks were banned they joined up with Fletch and me here.
It quickly became an exodus - people want to be free. We called ourselves the Cool Kids and reveled in our freedom and the ability to create the type of community that we wanted to belong to.
Now, after a year of hard work, I'm proud of the community that has been built here. We have been able to create a safe environment where there is open discussion on many topics, and always with the spirit of Aloha.
It's kind of hard to single out a few of our pioneers for their efforts as I'm afraid to that I will unintentionally omit some who deserve credit. But special thanks to:
o Vivianne, our Trojan Horse
o Fletch, really the co-founder of this forum. Fletch has a dedication and work ethic that astounds at times. And he's a pretty sharp dude.
o 250Strong for moving the Dragonvale Rare Breeding Guide here from the other forum.
o GT500Girl for her unflagging positive support of all of us here.
o Pixie who took the hand-off from GT5600Girl and continued the same positive approach.
o TommyB who has had us all in stitches at times with his sense of humor (that fails to disguise an unusual level of wisdom)
o The Current A-Team - Myke, Pam, Lemmyloop, Liquidc0urage, McNeeze and Debstoy, our current team of moderators who combine a sense of fun with a sense of purpose
Dragonvale is only a game, just trivial recreation. But one of my most closely held beliefs is, in this at times difficult world, that we should all try to spread love and compassion wherever we have the opportunity. We all have our spheres of influence where we can endeavor to do that. I'm grateful that this has become an international community (visitors from 155 countries) that enables us all, A-Team, members and guests, to do just that.
After yet another Platinum, I put my level 19 Ice and level 18 Mine away for a long rest and leveled a new Ice and a new Mine to level 11. Boom! Second and third tries!

So have any of you heard about dragonvale Malibu? My husband is saying he's sending me there. It's for dragon addiction but not a 12 step program. I told him I didn't have an addiction and asked him if I could get more gems. He's shaking his head at me. Can you believe it?!
Oh wow! I'm in shock! I just got a Thermal!!! I used the Geo / Grinder combo. I sped up the 48 hour breeding time (it was unbelievable to see the "48" hour breeding time to begin with, never having seen that on Gizmonauts before ) and yay, I now have a mega bot! You know, I had switched from using my iPhone to my iPad to play on since I got it a few months ago, and have been so unsuccessful in breeding. So today I switched back, and started playing back on the iPhone for a while. That's when I got the Thermal. Coincidence or does the apparatus signature have something to do with it since I signed up with Gizmonauts on my iPhone?
Have you met Fletch yet? He's going to say "coincidence", and he might cry a little inside.

Thanks for the POTM!! At first I didn't know what that meant. I had to ask my 15 year old if she knew what that meant, lol, she didn't know either... now, I get it... Lol, hopeless....
Finally caught up with the Scavenger Hunt and Easter Egg Hunt PMs. New leaderboard has been posted. Viviane and manahmanah are currently tied on 222 points! Exciting stuff.
But still plenty of time for everyone else to find what needs to be found and earn some points.
I also said during the planning stage that some of the Birthday Candles would not be found, because the forum is so big. Seems I underestimated how hard coreobsessive/compulsive and nerdy our members are.
In the six days of April the dragon gods gave to me...
Eleven Rusts corroding, Nine Mines a digging, Eight Steels supporting, Seven Quick-Silv-Erssss, Six chillin' Ice, Five shining Silvers, Four melting Icebergs, and a DIAMOND in a Happy Tree!!!

(In my excitement to snap a photo of the time countdown I accidentally used 24 gems to speed it up - so here is the evidence in my hatchery.)
I found out, I have no clue where some of the staff is located lol And .. had to look up what : threwing up on somebody means !!!Never had to use that expression during my 25 years of work in an international english oriented organisation !!!

I started playing DV last summer just in time to snag the Fireworks dragon that was just released. I had been reading the other board, but I wasn't feeling comfortable there. Too much snarking, too much hate, and I got tired of people purposely posting wrong combos for new dragons just for laughs. I could tell the atmosphere was toxic.
Googled DragonVale and happily discovered this community of people. Loving and caring only begins to describe the people who administer this forum. Those on the Internet who mess with people on DVs Facebook and at the other forum wouldn't think of trying that over here. That speaks to all of the hard work put in by those who administer these pages.
THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart! During the scavenger hunt I came across this quote by Poppy, "When you speak from your heart people listen with theirs." Pretty much says it all.
In honour of this forum's first anniversary and the forum's founder I crowned my first dragon today. Hope you don't mind, Poppy!

Yeah...I figured the tie was coming when I saw that Betsy had 5 more points than me in the trivia competition and I had 5 more than her in the diamond dragon portion. Oh, if only the mods had stuck to the 6th. Maybe some dark horse will show up to beat us both by 5 points. ;D No matter what happens, I'm happy for the competition and the way it made me more involved with the forum.
And as I am using Betsy's name, it only seems fair to give mine...I'm Aaron. Nice hangin' with you guys.

Oh! Did you go and see your boss telling him you need a week off because Pixie, FLetch, Liquid Courage, LemmyLoop and others are having a week of competition on a forum about a game where you breed dragons on an enchanted island ? I would pay to see your boss s reaction lol
I have decided that the Thermal Bot is BFS's way of relating to all ages. The Astro Bot looks very much like a toy Transformer and definitely appeals to the younger crowd. The Steam Bot offers a bit of nostalgia for the older crowd. But still most of these epic bots have been geared towards the male species. However, BFS has remedied that with the epic Thermal Bot. Now, middle-aged women have a bot they can really relate to....a bot with hot flashes. Thanks for caring BFS!
I have a happy, sad, scary, weird, ugly tale to tell you.
I have some very special friends that send me gems. That's the happy part. Sometimes I don't know which very special friend it was because you change their name to 'and others.' That's the sad part. I'm worried my very special friends won't feel special anymore because I can't send them gems back, and then maybe they wont be my very special friends anymore. That's the scary part. Every time this happens, I end up poutine. That's the weird part. Then Mom says, "Your face is going to get stuck that way!" That's the ugly part.
Please let me see who all my very special friends are so I don't have to hear "So's yer face!" for the rest of my life.
