Hey, Kiyomi is my name!
Psst, you should totally pick it
Lol! Major coincidence! I love love love Japanese names and Kyiomi is definitely one of my favourites, honestly! Japanese names are just so unique and somehow balanced, if you know what I mean.. and that is what I love about it.. And it would be a perfect name for a sakura dragon. Of course
Buffy, I would like to use Nippon, or Nihon, but I can't really decide which one. As you seem to know a bit more about this than I do, is there any difference between the two in terms of meaning?
mssparkle, I haven't watched Star Trek, but I like the names. I haven't decided on what ones to use, yet, except for Kiyomi, obviously. I like how the name sounds, it just feels right. Of course both of you will get a gem, ElektronX and mssparkle
Will be more creative later on...there are tons of things about Japan that you can name your Sakura dragons after
I already have a baby lotus dragon named buffy! I can't have two dragons with the same name
I have a turbo baby Lotus named Buffy too...

Miharu, because it's the name of a ancient cherry blossom tree. Even if you don't like the name, I think it's interesting to know about it. See below:
The Miharu Takizakura (三春滝桜?, litt. waterfall cherry tree of Miharu) is an ancient cherry tree in Miharu, Fukushima, in northern Japan. It is a weeping higan cherry (Prunus pendula "Pendula Rosea", benishidarezakura in Japanese) and is over 1,000 years old.
The tree is 12 metres high, the trunk circumference is 9.5 metres, the east-west spread is 22 metres, and the north-south spread is 18 metres.
It is classified as one of the five great cherry trees of Japan (日本五大桜) and one of the three giant cherry trees of Japan (日本三巨大桜). It was designated a national treasure in 1922. Polls frequently rank it as the number one tree in all of Japan.

Both terms are used widely, I think either one is okay, depending on one's preference. They both mean the origin of the sun.
- Hanami
- Kitaro depends on your taste
- buffy 2 , one Lotus is never enough, you have my permission to clone many more mini me... like you can name them buffy 3, and buffy 4...
I need to name ten Sakura Dragons for my newest island, and there is no way I'm doing that on my own, so I thought, why not have a little competition!
Here is how it will work: 1. People submit names of Sakura Dragons, as many as they want. 2. Every so often, I will pick names I like and put them in this post, along with the names of everybody who suggested it. 3. Everybody who had suggested a name I picked will be given one gem.
Also, thought that I'd mention that there will be four adult Sakuras and six FOY'ed ones.
Kiyoji21 Sadako of course. I would've liked to use Hana as well, but Hanami and Hana are too similar (and I can't have one dragon called "Flower" and another "Watching flowers"

3 from me: Hana (flower) Haru (Spring) Sadako (from Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes, also my late grandmother's name)
Miyajima...the island where God dwells... This is a "world heritage site" quite beautiful. I just got back from working in Hiroshima and visited this wonderful place...

Miyajima (Itsukushima) seems like a wonderful place and a good name for a Sakura Dragon!
Over on Fletch_smf's name that dragon thread, technofanatic suggested Arthur C Clark as a name, being one of the big three in science fiction. I was not sure who the other two he meant were so I suggested a list, naming first names only. Anyway I thought it might make a good contest. So 5 gems to the person who can guess them all. Philip, Kurt, Brian, Robert, Isaac, Ben, Greg, Douglas, Edward, Edgar, Herbert, Jules, Fred, Frank, Ray, Ursula, Anne, Piers, James, John, Colin, John again, Philip again, James again, Mary, Connie, Orson, William, Andre, Larry, Robert again, Kim, Carolyn You must guess MY list. Repeated names can be in any order though. I will deposit my list with a neutral party in case of disputes.
I will of course ban wapatango from entering. Can't be seen giving her gems.

Dick, Vonnegut, Sanderson, Heinlein, ?, ?, Bear?, Adams, ?, rice Burroughs?, ?, Verne, ?, ?, Bradbury, le guin, Bishop or McCaffrey more likely, Anthony, ?, ?, ?, is this one Scalzi?, ?, ?, Shelley, Walsh, Scott Card, ?, Norton, Niven, ?, Stanley Robinson, ?
I'll need to come back to this... I refuse to google these
Edit: ooh Ben BOVA and I'm pretty sure it's McCaffrey or else your list is wrong
Edit2: ohhh ASIMOV I'm sorry I'm sorry ugh how did I miss that one
Edit3: I'm pretty sure it's Brandon Sanderson so Brian is still unknown but one Robert is k Jordan
Edit4: further reflection points out Mary might also be Robinette Kowal and Connie Williams not Walsh. It is very tempting to google these to check. I shall be strong
Edit5: I'm gonna guess HG WELLS might be Herbert

Currently breeding for whatever twins I can possibly get my hands on
Greg Darcy ( figure if he knows, and reads this many Science Fiction writers/books he oughts to publish a book soon. I am placing my guess in the future, near? .) It's science fiction, after all!
Can we co op in this contest, and share the winning? I only know half of those names.
GD - you are not a fan of Jasper Fforde? I just start reading his Thursday Next series because of one single loving peculiar reason..
NinjaKiwi. You have made a good start. But apart from the missing ones, you have some wrong. Great start though.
Buffy, If I have to time travel to get your answers, you'll have to read my mind to get my response.
All, I wrote that late last night. I notice this morning some of it makes no sense. Darn auto incorrect. I will edit it. I won't change the names though

Buffy, It is by no means an exhaustive list. You will also notice that George ( dying of the light , song for lya), Stephen ( the gap ) , Paolo (windup) and Brandon ( mistborn) are not there either
Some are perhaps better known for their fantasy. And one or two tread the line very finely.

GD - This is all I know, less than 1/2. The rest I will have to Google I will be "cheating"? or an opportunity for me to learn something. I don't really mind the learning part. Get pay for learning...can't beat that!
Philip Farmer Robert Heinlein Isaac Asimov Greg Darcy or Greg Bear Douglas Adams Edgar Allan Poe or Edgar Wallace Herbert Wells Jules Verne Frank Kafka (Frankz) Ray Bradbury James Gunn James Kelly Orson Card William Gibson Larry Niven Kim S. Robinson
btw, you entrust your list w/ a mod, I can always bribe that mod
Some friends touch your heart in a way that you can never erase.
Buffy, "All knowledge is worth having" And no the author of that quote is not there. If I had opened it up to fantasy she would have been. Another quiz another time perhaps
As with NinjaKiwi., some are right and some are wrong. More work to do yet
Yes. You could bribe a mod. But if you choose the wrong one (and they all might be wrong) and get reported you will join wapatango in the sin bin.

Wow! Harsh words GregDarcy. I would feel worse if I didn't know that I am already out of the sin bin and totally set free. I may not be allowed to participate in this contest because I am too cool for you, but I don't mind. After all, I hate to accept gifts from dragon eaters.
I love my vine dragon avatar created by ElektronX. Now, if only BFS would add it to the game...
