Just read the poll question closer to realise I should have voted dark. I want to see Dark released first, but I believe Light will be based on my thoughts of the player base.

I agree. On other polls I have seen a "retract vote" button after I cast my vote. On this poll the button just goes away.

I'm getting very confused about this, are people going for one magic, or spreading between the two? I'd like to have both.......
Well, you will eventually get both elements unlocked no matter what you do. You could choose not to participate at all and it wouldn't matter in the grand scheme of things.
However, if you want the free rewards, you need to participate in the event and you will need ot decide what you want to do.
Each time you reach a milestone, your reward will upgrade. We believe there are multiple tiers of upgrades for each element and that they will get progressively more difficult to acquire as you pass each tier. We don’t know when the first element will win.
So, would you rather focus and have a single element fully upgraded, at the risk of the losing element potentially not getting as good of rewards?
If you fully upgrade Light and Light Wins, then you might have a chance to fully upgrade Dark while we collectively work to get that element released. But I think with everyone focused on one element at that point, it will happen a lot faster.
By contrast, if you fully upgrade Light and Dark Wins, well, you might not have a chance to level up Dark at all anymore. Your element won and you got the best possible reward, but at the loss of the other sides freebies.
So you could split between the two and hope that you get to at least mid level before the contest ends, but that means missing out on the best stuff form both.
Clearly the best plan is to work your tail off and try to get them both at max before a winner is decided, thus avoiding any risk!
Personally, I think BFS has done the math and we will have enough time to work on both at a normal pace before a winner is declared, but that could just be my optimism shining through...

I'm not a min-maxxer. Nor do I have the time/energy to do what you guys do. So I think I'm going to put all my effort except for a bare minimum to get the basic Dark habitat into Light and just see what I can do there.
I cast my vote for dark. Evil shadow ninja dragons please!
My main park is going dark, and my second will be light. I'll probably spend the dollar in each park to get the basic habitat of the element I'm not trying for though. Cover my bases.
Dragons to breed: Clover, Sakura, Diamond, Peridot, SOly, GOly, Bronze and Silver SnOlys, DR, Malachite, and four light and dark hybrids.
A Facebook user asked: So I'm still kinda fuzzy on something, when I put magic into the rift island and grow the blue bar, does it grow for everyone?
BFS answered: To answer your question, Just You. As players continue to contribute to either Light or Dark, the bar below that decoration will fill. Once a player reaches the end of that bar, a reward will be made available and the bar will reset. Filling the bar indicates how much a player needs to contribute to unlock the next reward! The communities effort toward either Light or Dark will become visible on the Tines of the Scar as more and more people contribute. How long this takes to visibly show is up to the community.
So it appears as time goes along and millions of people contribute their Magic to either Light or Dark, we will be able to see which side is leading and give us the hint to start putting all our Magic into that side.
Not sure how we will be able to see which side is winning, whether the swirling mass in the middle will turn lighter/darker, or if the indentations going up the curves will become a progress bar.

I suspect that either the Tines themselves will change color or glow in some way... or the vortex in the center will.
