8 Light dragons were introduced on the 5th. 8 Dark dragons were added of the 15th. The 22nd saw 4 more hybrids and it seems likely that they will add the dark equivalents next week and continue introducing them from there. We could have 38 new dragons by 27th December or in less than 2 months. Considering we are used to getting them once a week, what do you think of the rate the Light and Dark hybrids are being added to the game?
My first thought on having the newest arrivals was 'oh goody' but the next was 'but I haven't got all the last ones yet!'
With two parks on the go, I'm getting confused as to which dragons I've got where... And with Jet and second Frostfires playing very hard to get, I'm feeling slightly pressured to speed stuff up with gems.
Which is probably just what BFS and Hasbro wants...
Kindle park1: nearly all dragons are frolicking in their habitats! (A Thorny little problem to resolve...)
Smartphone park2: Geode, a dragon with rocks in! Still to breed 4 dragons...
I'm actually okay with the new hybrid dragons coming as fast as they do, because my strategy is to display one of each dragon, and calculate the best way to evenly distribute DC earnings across the different habitats. Having all the new hybrid dragons available sooner (and hopefully the Light and Dark boosts) would allow me to work this out more quickly. Of course this is pretty silly, since there will always be newer dragons to complicate the equation, but just thought I'd share.

Honestly I'm enjoying this. I only have one park and it only takes 2-3 days to get adults of the 4 new dragons. I am anxiously waiting the full release of the dark and light elements so we can have all of our basic hybrids, shrines and boosts. Then we can get back on track of releasing golden hybrids and new limiteds at the rate of one a week.
Maybe it's just me, but I can't see why it's a problem?
Nothing is limited, so you have all the time in the world to get them. I love it when they release say 1 limited per week as it gives you something to work on. When they release new permanent dragons, I just get them whenever I get them as a fail or whenever I need them for breeding (or if I'm REALLY bored and have nothing left to breed for). Personally, I won't be chasing the light/dark hybrids for quite some time - too much other stuff I want to do first.
Much has been said about GN failing because they released all the bots at once. I think this is incorrect IMO, and will have no impact on the success of DV at all. GN failed for one very simple reason - speedups. There was literally no incentive to ever buy crystals in that game. On top of that, it was very easy to earn at least 10 crystals per day straight off the bat (with only 3 friends). No Dragonsai tree needed or anything.
Generally, people buy gems/crystals when there is a time limit, particularly a tight one (think LYD, celtic etc). In GN, there was only ever I think 3-4 limited bots?? And they were all around for at least a month each before they left. They they started introducing permanent epics that you could breed for at any time. Again, there is no incentive for people to buy gems for something they can get whenever. And even though the breeding time was 48 hours, with a few good friends, you could easily get this down to 8-12 hours or so.
Speed ups totally killed that game from a business point of view.
Personally, I'm looking forward to something new in DV - a new limited, or something else I've got to try to get. New permanent dragons never really excite me very much as I can just get them whenever and will normally end up with about 100 fails of them at some point anyway (remember how excited some of you were when the crystal dragon arrived? I bet you aren't so happy when you breed them now )

As permanent hybrids, there's no race to get these new dragons. I only acquired them all so quickly because I have nothing else I need to breed for the time being. So, I have no real problem with this strategy so long as:
- they don't release multiple limited dragons at the same time and with a short window of availability. That would stress people out. Last March was CRAZY for new players...
- they must continue to release new dragons on a regular schedule still. Just because they gave us 20+ new dragons in November does not mean I want them to slack off in the coming months, as that would be a detriment to long term players.
Overall, I think November was a good month to do a high volume release. There were only 2 limited dragons on the Forecast. I was expecting a slow month building up to December madness and this certainly kept the excitement high.
Oh boy March...Aquamarine, Clover, Celtic, Sakura, Equinox, Spring, Bloom, and Motley. As someone who started in February, I don't know how I managed to get all of them.

I missed Aquamarine, Clover, Celtic, and Sakura. Celtic was the first limited I missed, despite wiping out my hoard of gems. It was quite a shock. I then spent the rest of the month trying for Aquamarine, missing out on the other two as well.

I am enjoying having to wait for the new dragons given that I don't have to worry about the time limit. I already have topaz+egg and Jet (but need egg). The bunch of dragons with one or two being limited works for me. If they were all limited that would be too hard--especially for newer players. As it is, I am using gems here and there to speed things up till I can get back to having all of the dragons. Though I am not using gems at a rate greater than I am acquiring gems (staying right around 500 after all the shrine gifts), so it may not be as good for BFS.
Overall it gives me something to work on with out the panic of two many limiteds or the grind of the magic--which was too much in my opinion.
As earlier said, they're here to stay so there's no rush into getting them. I'm more worried about the need for bigger habitats to have one of each in display

This is another good point. Having 38 dragons in a couple of months requires 8 new habitats to display them all. How many extras did we get with the last update?
I'm fine with it. I personally don't have a problem with getting an overdose of dragons. Not sure about beginning players though.
That's always going to be a problem in the long run. Back when we started, adding Cold gave us only 1 new hybrid, Mountain, because Fire and Plant were both opposites. Now each new element gives the full array of possible hybrids.

To clarify, I didn't say that the game failed because all the bots were released initially, just that it was a mistake on their part not to be introducing new content ona regular basis, which could have been easily achieved by introducing these hybrids over time.

I suspect that they needed as many bots as they did on initial release. Too few and the game would have held no interest at all. They clearly left a number of breeding options out that I suspect they intended to fill. The difficulty of designing 3d bots is probably what delayed their release. I suspect the release was imminent when the accountants pulled the plug, as BFS had dropped hints of new and wonderful things to come. They would not have done so had they not been close to release. I agree with PJ. The ultimate game killer was the speedups, much as I liked that aspect as a player.

I agree also. But releasing a new bot, even a fortnight rather than monthly, gives people a reason to check in and more likely they will donate to say thanks. Great game. I miss it.
