It was mentioned the other day about how difficult it can be for non-English speaking players to sometimes understand the translations in the game. We know we have members from all over the world, but how many languages are represented? We'll keep track here in the original post. Please list your country and non-English language if would like to participate.
So far besides English, we have the following languages represented: Spanish French German Brazilian Portuguese Hawaiian Creole English (Pidgin) Vietnamese Korean Norwegian This is so cool!
Seriously Pixie, are you after first language only, fluent, or can stumble along in. (I learned Latin in school)

I've suffered the Spanish translation when choosing languages was not an option and depended on one's operating system, so I'm somewhat familiar with that side of the game (I'm bilingual). As a translator I also work from French and German -- solely into English -- but could probably help out there. Just "page" me (do something to figure in the "Notifications" tab; I check regularly). Or Tagalog, anyone?
Greg, you could root out the closet DV players in Vatican City...
In fairness, I should point out that translating games (like software manuals) isn't easy. Basically, the company farms out the text to an agency who looks for the "localizers". It rarely comes with the game or program -- not that the localizers mind, since debugging the product (or their computers) doesn't come with the pay grade. In the case of online games, the scenario is often complicated by the use of a platform that presents the text in strings -- i.e., isolated sentences with no context whatsoever. So it's easy to come up with nonsense if you've never played.
Oops, Pixie, I just reread your post. I live in Spain (but sometimes switch countries). Still, Spain is my home base. Allowing that the EU is fast becoming a region of "intracommunity commuters". (Countries are small, anyway).

I'd be too worried about what else I might find.

I live in Brazil, so my native language is Brazilian Portuguese. I've been studying English for several years now, but I can't really say that I am fluent. Anyway, I can understand the posts pretty well and sometimes I even try and write something of my own. I really love this forum.
Really happy with my gorgeous avatar by ElektronX! GCID: Andr3i4 Any and all friends for Cooperative Breeding are welcome. Gladly accepting any twins also.
I'm German, so that's my first language. My English is tolerable ( even though I don't understand all posts here). I can put my ideas across in French. At the moment I'm learning Spanish but just beginner.

anyahastur and crumble608 you both have a very good grasp of English. If I could be as fluent in French, I would be ecstatic.
I speak UK English, understand more than I can speak of French, and have enough German to navigate my way around a menu and touristy stuff. I also took Latin at school, mainly because I didn't have to speak it (being a dead language and all).
I can get the gist of geographical stuff in French and Spanish (courtesy of several FB groups). Google Translate helps a lot...
Kindle park1: nearly all dragons are frolicking in their habitats! (A Thorny little problem to resolve...)
Smartphone park2: Geode, a dragon with rocks in! Still to breed 4 dragons...
I live in Switzerland, near Geneva. Native language is french, I am fluent in german and my english is ... quite ok I guess. At least I can make the difference between its and it's lol
I Speak English and a little German because my partner is a native of Germany and so our son has gone to à Saturday German school for last 7 years and is very fluent in both languages and also learns Spanish at middle school level. They both play mostly for gem gifting but fortunately for them, I can remind them with just a look, in any language!

Being multilingual is something I've always been very impressed with. I think the closest thing to a different language I can speak is Hawaiian Creole English (Pidgin). Well that and maybe a few words of Japanese. Since Engineers at our school are omitted from needing to learn a foreign language, I'm kind of lacking in that department.
I'm German and live in Germany. Studied English literature and now work for an international IT company where English is the common language (German-English, Italian-English, Chinese-English, India-English, and so on). I speak some French (better after a while in the country) and understand Italian enough to order a meal and read signs. Learned Latin, but do not remember much.

Please write something in Hawaiian Pidgin English...a paragraph of something, non DV related. I just want to see if I can understand any of it.
This is fascinating! I am so impressed with the fluency with which you all write in English. And thank you, Buffy, for the brief autobiography. I am in awe of the bravery your parents showed both in Vietnam & in coming to the US to begin a new life.
I live in France, and I speak french :-) My english is not very good but I can understand the posts here; it's easier for me to read than to write, that's why I dońt write a lot in the forum..but I play DV in the english version, the french traduction is awful!!
Thanks for the great summary, Buffy! Would make a fascinating book.
Just last night they were talking about immigrant integration on TV this side of the Atlantic, and someone said, integrate into what? It's not as though we were all alike, to begin with.
There's a word in the EU that they've never translated: "acquis". We learn as we live (acquire). It refers to experience and wisdom acquired. Differences and new input are assets.
