I am having the worst luck finding him. I just might have to suck it up and go buy an iPad this weekend!! My old eyes and tiny Sandaklauz on my iPhone are NOT working well together!
I totally understand. I guess I was complaining too much about how hard it was to find Party Hats and Sandaklauz, as well as complaining about my friends list constantly crashing. My wonderful husband and daughter gave me my Christmas present of and Ipad and case early. What a relief for my poor strained eyes.

Oooh, fun!!!!
If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all/Gloom, despair, and agony on me... {HeeHaw, 1970s - totally showing my age)
Any scientific explanation to back your number up?
Yes
Indeed, after quick-leveling (the new directed goals feature is wonderful for low level players trying to figure out what to do next!) I found that the event is available at level 11! I did have to force-quit the app and reload the park to get it to appear, however.

I love this! In my mother's family it was a tradition to open a present on New Year's eve but in my father's family it was a strict rule to wait until Christmas day. So when I was growing up we waited until Christmas day! I wonder if he would have softened his stance if he were addicted to DragonVale but couldn't see his little Sandakloz...

what does landlocking portals mean? i surrounded the portals with a path and then some bushes but the visitors just walk through the bushes :c
I've noticed when moving things around that the visitors will walk right through everything until the game "reloads" (ie. You get the winter splash thing again.) The island layout must be a cached elements as far as determining visitor motion. (If you want to have fun, you can position a habitat in the way and watch visitor walk right into a dragon's mouth when the timing works out. *grin*)
That said, surrounding with paths won't work as they are specifically designed for visitors to walk on, so they won't block anything. Habitats and decorations should work, including purchased trees/bushes, but as I said, you may have to reload the game to get the visitors to "see" the new obstacles.
I also noticed when I tried this on islands other than the lost island, that some visitors were just showing up spontaneously around the island, so *just* surrounding the portal with bushes, for example, didn't seem to be enough. So I've reconfigured all of my islands with a "ring" pattern of habitats & decorations with the portal in the middle.
That appears to have made my visitors happy. They stay inside the ring because they don't have to leave the ring to visit all the habitats, and I made the rings small enough that I can see the entire island in one glance. If you really want to limit visitor motion further, create a path from the portal in a circle or square that leads back to the portal. If there are paths on an island, the visitors will stay on it and not wander randomly.
Let me know if you're having trouble picturing it and I'll try to get a screenshot.
I had come to the same conclusion about paths, and have rearranged my islands to have paths on all of them. I also found that the black background of some of the island themes made it harder for me to see him, his red suit didn't jump out in the same way, so I have changed some of my islands back to the original theme. I also think the white paths are the best contrast, but I will admit I didn't always use them, because they didn't always look right.

I actually don't like to open presents early, but I also like to be surprised. Because I was already 99% certain I was getting an Ipad, it was extremely logical. I actually like to be surprised and to surprise the person I am giving a gift to. I always told my children, not to go looking for their gifts. I also added that if I found out they had found a gift, I would take it back and they wouldn't get it. To my knowledge, my children never went snooping.

Accckkk every time I try to play this xmas game my iphone crashes!! Any ideas??
Get an iPhone6 with 128gb :
Seriously force close DV and any other apps you have open in the background Even though DV has crashed, it will still list as open Delete any apps you don't use. Shut your phone down and restart it
Go into the services app and shut down all notifications and location services
Force close the services app
Restart DV.
if it still crashes see silly answer above. And yes I am having the same trouble on my iPhone4 Oddly my wife's iPhone 3GS seems to be ok. Probably because she just uses it as a phone except for DV.

I must be silly, I always thoughy a phone is meant to make phone calls, and my Ipad is for newspaper reading, emails, games and cooking apps lol.
I carry a tiny super computer that just happens to have microphones, speakers and a cellular modem... so yeah, if I needed to I suppose I could talk on it between games...
Personally, the game has been running smoother on my phone since the 2.7.0 update, so what ever "bug fixes" they did seem to have worked very well on Android at least.
When i grow (more, much more) older, i will consider using the apple extension cable to view the content of my ipad on my TV. Should make finding Santa a piece of cake.
It was good to be able to check my math against what you laid out above. The main goal of the sheet is to see how many gems I have to spend to get all the prizes (or if it is even possible). Based on my calculations (which could be wrong - I would love for someone to audit them), if you spend max gems on the double gems day, you would have to spend just over 4 gems every other day of the event (assuming you get all Iceberries from activities including clearing obstacles). But all that is configurable in the sheet.
(By the way, we are friends in the game - GCID: bumperdog. I forgot I friended you a while ago.)
Oh man blah, thanks for sharing this file! I do love a good Excel spreadsheet I did a few minor changes to adjust it to my needs. Namely in the input berries columns as I track mine in a slightly different way. The other change is probably a more useful one to anyone else using the sheet. I've decided not to go for the big prize. I'll be trying to earn gems so that I might be able to buy the Lost Island. Yay! So I modified the cell N15 to only calculate how many iceberries were needed to get up to the second Snowflake as that's my goal. I don't know if this is something you want to add on or not. (Heck, if you want I can finagle around and add a drop down choice so that users may select which prize is their goal!)
I hope by "earning gems" you mean that you don't spend them for the event and not that you try to maximise left over iceberries. Otherwise I should tell you that leftover iceberries will be transformed into food not gems.

1:30 in the morning ... I managed to reach 241 berries and got the snowflake deco. Btw you can then buy more for 10 000 DC. Now to the next hurdle ...
Was a message with the option to buy them popping up after receiving the award ? Or did you go to the market ? My game crashed just after handing in the iceberries for the snowflake. No option to buy iceberries with DC . Luckily the snowflake appeared after a restart.

You can buy more decorations for 10000 DC, not berries.
