We finally made it home yesterday. The fire didn't burn any of the houses in my neighborhood, but it came very close. And now when I look out the window in my living room, I can see the hills around us have been burned black. The ground is charred, there are blackened trees and ash everywhere. The fire also wiped out one of the campgrounds up here.
These hills aren't going to be the same for a very long time. No more pretty green trees, just a small patch of evergreens to the south. Even the ground is scorched right up to the water's edge at the lake, which is all that separated us from the fire. If it had crossed the water, we would have been toast for sure.
Iโm so happy for you, that the fire didnโt get your home. ๐
A wild fire took my sisters house in Oklahoma 12 years ago. It was a heart breaking experience watching her family start over.

So glad to hear you, your family, your house, and neighborhood are safe. As for the hills, they wonโt be exactly the same, but it is surprising how fast things start to grow back. I used to look out my kitchen window when doing dishes on a mountainside that had been clear cut. It was big, brown, and ugly. Now a few years later it is covered with new trees.
I hope everyone else out west is safe from the fires as well.

Thank goodness you and yours were safe and sound! And a definite shame for the hills. Hopefully you will be pleasantly surprised by how quickly it's green again.

Some of my neighbors have been posting pictures of the devastation left behind by the fire. This is one I feel comfortable sharing because there aren't any houses nearby, just a photo of the lake where everything burned.
This is what I see when I look out my window. Just one big mess. But when the rains come the hills will look a bit cleaner. By spring there should at least be some new growth. Life will always find a way to return, and I suppose that ash will be good for the soil and help the plants grow.

We share our physical lives with those in spirit. For life, like love, never dies. Love knows no limits, not even death.

Just... wow... no words to express my feelings... Can't wait to find out how it looks in the spring, DragonMoonX.
Can you please recommend "one of the best" user friendly (for us retired seniors) and free photo editing app for my iPhone SE and iPad generation 5? The feature that I would use the most would be the "eraser" that can allow me to take out undesirable objects to make my photos look better.
I have searched on line a bit, but there are various opinions. Not looking for any professional editing (I don't even know some of the terms they listed ). But hey, with more time staying at home, I may be able to learn a bit and make some nice photos after all. I have always wondered how to take/make those gorgeous photos on the iPhone ads.

Thank you much for your assistance! :)
Photoshop is arguably the standard/most popular program, but itโs not always user-friendly. However, Adobe has many Photoshop (PS) apps to help break down the myriad of functions PS provides. Either Adobe PS Fix, PS Express, or PS Mix would probably address what you need. Youโll have to sign-up with an email, but the basic features are free. Thereโs also a ton of photo apps like Retouch, Photo Eraser, TouchRetouch, etc, etc, etc. I havenโt used a lot of them so I canโt vouch for how well they work. Theyโll probably be easier to use than PS, but the quality and flexibility may be limited.
In addition, there are websites that provide photo editing. If you do a search for 'photo editor' or 'photo erase' many will crop up. So thereโs lots of options.
The best site, app, etc probably depends on what youโd like to remove (a blemish, a tree, an entire background), and how intuitive the program. Generally, larger objects are removed by using a lasso to outline or brush to fill in the object, and smaller items are fixed with a blurring tool. So it might be ideal to try a couple programs and see which works for your photo project. Gโluck!
I was so shocked to hear this yesterday. Eddie and David lee were so much a part of my teens ๐ข dang I feel old

We got these eggs locally from a lady that has lots of different breeds. So the chicks are mixed up lol. Not a silkie, not feathered feet. It looks to me like an australope mix or maybe a production blue, due to the black feet. Could also be part cooper Maran. We got a couple of the reddish ones, which are part red sex link. The ones with the chipmunk stripes are Easter Eggers, they hatched from Blue, green and olive eggs๐ฃ

There are so many chickies! I was expecting a couple so I was really surprised to see you have a COUPLE DOZEN. I like their squeaking!! Iโm also impressed with your chickie knowledge: silkie, australope mix, production blue, cooper Maran. What are you going to do with all of them? You are definitely ready for Easter!! ๐ฃ

anyhoo, we had chickens before, years ago, so I remember most from then. I do have some production blues and a few americaunas that I bought as chicks from our local feed store. This is my third time incubating and hatching out our own chicks. Itโs so exciting each time. Not including the new babies, we have around 30 hens, half have just started laying eggs. The plan is to have a small egg business, like at the farmers market or maybe just online local. Right now all the eggs go to family and friends, no business $$ yet lol.

When I had my small farm I did just that, had a wide range of various breeds of hens (who ranged freely over 10 acres) and therefore also had coloured eggs, and sold them locally through a farmers market...fun days except for when hens went on the cluck,, then I used to suspend them in a smaller cage in the shade to keep feet cool until they came back into lay ๐ And the powdering for mites, and the occasional foul crop, oh dear the fun But I loved the girls and miss their chatting away and keeping bugs out of the garden
