When I had my small farm I did just that, had a wide range of various breeds of hens (who ranged freely over 10 acres) and therefore also had coloured eggs, and sold them locally through a farmers market...fun days except for when hens went on the cluck,, then I used to suspend them in a smaller cage in the shade to keep feet cool until they came back into lay 😄 And the powdering for mites, and the occasional foul crop, oh dear the fun But I loved the girls and miss their chatting away and keeping bugs out of the garden
Wow, hubby would love to live on 10 acres, we have our little “homestead” on one acre. Not really a homestead since we are in the middle of the suburbs lol. We are super lucky to have home in an area that still zoned agricultural, while gated, all inclusive, planned communities are popping up all around us.
This time ‘round, we haven’t had any major problems, yet 🤞🏻😆. But I’m sure we will be mite dusting soon enough lol. We’ve had such a wet rainy season, that mosquitoes are the only issue right now. I did already have one of the girls get broody/cluck, which surprised me since she just started laying. We just kept tossing her off the nest, lol. I read online that dunking a broody in cool water will literally cool her down and she will stop being broody. Going to have to try that later. 😉.
The eggs have reached 50g and we sold our first two dozen this week! Yay, I’m a chicken farmer!! 👩🏻🌾
I think I’ll start naming the girls after dragons 🐲 😈 🤣🤣🤣

It’s fascinating to watch how a community of thousands of Valers did not loose one word on the major event of this November. We live in an other world
I think the Aloha spirit is against talking about politics
What is this "politics" of which you speak? I have heard nary a word during this wonderful month. It must be some nefarious scheme designed to take my attention away from my Vale. I shun the very idea of this thing you call "politics"...

I know I've said this before, but I really like your bright and cheerful holiday posts, dragonglow. ❤
For those of you who celebrate Thanksgiving, what are your plans this year? I know that things have changed, and it might be difficult for those who will end up spending time apart because of what's happening in the world right now. So I'm sending lots of love to everyone on the forum. 💜❤💙 Because now more than ever is a time to be thankful for the people who are with us. And I am most definitely thankful for all of you. 😊💜
For me, I'll be spending Thanksgiving with my boyfriend. It'll be my first time making Thanksgiving dinner. Usually my mother cooked everything, and last year I helped a lot when she was feeling tired. It's all on me now, though I'm sure my boyfriend will lend a hand. Hopefully it won't be too much of a mess when we're finished. 😄
I'm also thinking about adding some new things to the menu, like maybe baking blueberry crumb cake. This is an opportunity to start over and make my own holidays traditions. And I think adding new things could be fun, too.
I would also like to add that I went ahead and bought myself an early holiday present a couple days ago. It's a koala plushie. 🐨❤ Maybe it'll help out and let me breed some of those limited event dragons.

DragonMoonX Hubby and I are staying home having a safe as well as quiet Thanksgiving. I am to have eye surgery on Dec 14th and don’ t want to mess that up by picking something up. Where we normally go every year one of their grandchildren picked up COVID at the babysitters so glad we had told them before we were not coming and that was before we knew she had COVID. Her parents and siblings are all in quarantine.😷 We are having ham, sweet potatoes, cranberries and pumpkin pie...what hubby wanted. 🥧 Your blueberry crumb cake sounds good.🫐

My goodness, I hope your surgery goes well and that the grandchildren and their parents are all going to be okay. I'm supposed to be scheduled for surgery soon myself actually. Not sure if I'll go through with it, but if I do, we may be recovering together in the very near future.
On our menu we're having turkey, carrots, stuffed celery, sweet potatoes, black and green olives, cranberry sauce, stuffing, dinner rolls, pumpkin pie and I think I'll go ahead and look for a good blueberry crumb cake recipe.
It's a lot to cook, but I'm actually looking forward to three days worth of leftover turkey sandwiches. Makes breakfast easy too. I just toss together some leftovers and that's my instant breakfast.

Thanksgiving is definitely my holiday. For the past ten+ years, I hosted the whole family with a thanksgiving buffet style, last year was 38 people. This year though it’s just the six of us here at home. I started prepping this morning lol. Hubby is smoking the Turkey and I’m making mashed garlic potatoes with gravy, stuffing, roasted fall veggies, cranberry relish, Mac and cheese, corn muffins, dinner rolls, and it wouldnt be thanksgiving at our house if we don’t have brown sugar, butter and maple syrup drenched sweet potatoes covered with crispy gooey marshmallows 😋 and pecan pie for dessert. Everything from scratch, except the stuffing. Got to have that stove top lol.
I’m very thankful for not having covid. We all had to test this week because our bubble was compromised by a friend of and friend. Very frustrating since we’ve all been so careful wearing masks and staying home. Hubby is a diabetic so we were very stressed out for a while there. But all’s okay 😊
dragonglow, I also hope your surgery goes well and you bounce back quickly!

Both your Thanksgiving meals sound delicious....days and hours of fixing and a hour to eat.🤣🤣 Enjoy!
LynnMarie I understand the frustration because I am a diabetic also and after being careful it only takes one person to mess it up. Glad all is ok.👌 Thank you for the well wishes.🦋 How is your chick flock?🐓🐥
DragonMoonX don’t you love those leftover breakfast! 🥰. I understand your hesitation with surgery I had to give it some thought but the cataract in the left eye is starting to affect my vision so decided to get them done....left Dec 14th the right is Jan 4th. I just have to put my faith in God and the surgeon. The place I am going for surgery was started and run by a Ophthalmologist it is a laser & surgery center. From what they told me and what I have found through research the place is kept very clean during regular times and especially now in these times. Who knows how long the COVID mess will go on.....in the 30’s, I believe it was, they had a pandemic and it went 3 years...pictures show people doing things in mask, etc. I guess you can say history repeats it self.🤷♀️ Thank you for the well wishes and I wish you much success along with a speedy recovery.🦋

If it eases your mind, my grandmother had cataract surgery several years ago and the procedure went smoothly and was without complications. She recovered quickly too. So with a little luck and good faith your procedure should hopefully go smoothly as well.
From the looks of things, a lot of these places like doctor's offices are doing their best to reduce the chances of covid infection. Everywhere I've been, I see them wiping down chairs with disinfectants, and moving the chairs in the waiting room so the patients are on opposite ends of the room. The state of things can make anyone nervous. It's understandable really. But it does make me feel a little better to know that they're trying their best.
For me, I'm supposed to go in and have my wisdom teeth removed. I already saw the dentist and he referred me to an oral surgeon. Definitely not looking forward to this. 😖 And if they schedule this for sometime in December and I actually go through with it, then I won't be able to eat any of our usual holiday foods, like corned beef, fruitcake and peppermint cream pie.
Not going to lie, I have a substantial amount of anxiety over this. I really don't want to do it, but my wisdom teeth have gotten infected and I had to be put on antibiotics for it about two weeks ago. I'm in my mid thirties and managed to hold onto them for a long time. But it's looking like they might have to go.

DragonMoonX Had my wisdom teeth taken out a number of years ago and I got bad infection before surgery. That is when I first heard that what goes on in your mouth can affect the rest of your body like your organs. Had mine surgically removed and did fine....healed rather fast. I do understand your anxiety. The best with your decision. Thanks for sharing about your Grandmother.
I hope you are getting to enjoy this wonderful time with the new baby and that Covid is not stealing it from you.
Congratulations!
Thank you so much.
So not sure what I'm allowed to share online regarding pictures. My daughter and her husband created a Tiny Beans account to share pictures, and you need to be added to the group to see. They don't want things to get out of control there, so for the moment we're showing people pictures on our phones in real life, and not posting things on the webz.
I live in Queensland, Australia. Our government took it seriously, and we have had a total of 1215 confirmed cases. Nationally we have had 908 total deaths due to Covid this year, and only 7 new cases in the last 24 hours. These are not locally acquired, but people flying into Australia, and being diagnosed whilst in quarantine. Long story short, we are not in lock down in any way, and so we are free to visit as much as we, and the new parents, like.
That being said, she has been in special care unit, so my wife and I have only had one small nurse each. Baby is fine, but arrived 2 weeks early, and they thought they could hear an irregular heartbeat during pre delivery monitoring. It's all just a precaution, and there will be plenty of time for cuddles in the future. Daughter #2 with Grandbaby #1 will be arriving next week-end, so plenty of cuddles over the coming weeks.
As an aside, we rushed out cat to emergency vet 9pm on Sunday night, because she was running hot and lethargic. Picked up Monday after fluids and pain relief, and driven to 2 different vets (more drama), before being kept another night for observation, blood work and antibiotics. Blood tests come back showing nothing dire, and antibiotics seem to doing the trick. Picked her up after work this afternoon, and she seems much better. Antibiotics wear off in about 10 days, so need to keep an eye on her at the end of next week to make sure she is over everything.
Long story short, we are a bit shattered over the events of the week-end.
