LM, according to my mechanic, whom I very much trust, they have a good reputation. If you get one, be sure and tell me about it.
I took one for a test drive, it was decent but the seats were very firm. I don’t see it being very comfortable on a long drive, maybe if I upgrade to leather. It’s been 6 ish years since I’ve gone new car shopping, and that was for my son. My gosh, vehicle prices have gone up so much, it’s ridiculous! After the Tucson, I went across the road to look at a RAV4 🤑 🤯. I’ll keep you informed 👍🏻
congrats on getting your first covid vax! My dad got his from the VA also, his second dose is next week. He had no side effects at all, not even that bump at the injection site you get from the flu shot.
Glad to hear about your test drive. Out here in Western Colorado, every trip to anywhere is at least 30 to 45 min...to Denver or Salt Lake it’s more like 5 hours. Because of that, a comfortable ride is very important. I have a 2006 GMC Envoy with 180,000 miles. I bought it in 2011 with 60,000 miles. I love it. Very, very comfortable. I keep it maintained ‘by the book’ and it has never failed. But, I think it might be time to look for a newer vehicle. Because of my satisfaction with this one, I’m gonna look at GMC SUVs first, probably 2015 or 2016s.
A friend of mine has a 2008 RAV4. Noisy and not real comfortable at highway speeds...

Yep, I keep vehicles for the long haul also. We have a Toyota Sequoia what we bought new in 2003. Raised two toddlers to out of the nest in that one, well over 130,000 on it too. Still comfy, but definitely showing age with this Florida sun, plus eats gas like crazy, I get like only 13mpg. Hubby drives a 2010 Silverado that he plans to trade in for a new one as soon as his social security kicks in 😆 three more years.
I was also looking at the Honda CR-V. But I’m not sure about the new type of engine, 3 cyn with that variable transmission, no real gears. If it will still be good after the warranty expires.

I'm going for my Pfizer 2nd shot tomorrow afternoon. First shot was 3 weeks ago (work in a health care organization), had pain in the arm that was a little worse than flu shots. Was all better the next day. For those getting a shot, move your arm a lot afterward. Get it moving for a while can greatly reduce the pain and help recover faster.

I agree. Moving the arm really helps. I took the shot in my right arm. That night I practiced guitar for about 2 hours. The pain was minimal and went away completely after about 12-16 hours.

Just got home from shot number 2. This is the one where you're most likely to have a reaction. Generally it will occur 8-12 hours later, mild flu like symptoms such as fever, chills, etc. If it does happen, will knock you out for a day or so. But in that worst case, feeling bad for a day sure beats having possible severe reactions to the virus itself, and starting the process to help your entire community.

Moderna shot #1, Day 4
Got a muscle pain in my left gracillis or adductor hiatus (it’s on the lower, inside of the femur). It only hurts when I press on it while sitting. I’ve never had any leg problems, although I do have some serious peripheral neuropathy...🤞

Arm hurt pretty bad the first evening, just like the first shot. Already feeling much better today. Had shivers and was very cold 6 to 8 hours after the shot. Aches and tiredness hit 10 to 12 hours after the shot. Day 2, all that is gone but I just feel extra tired today despite having a full nights sleep.

I didn’t realize the second shot has the side effects, worse than the first. My dad will be getting his 2nd shot on his 86th birthday, next week. He had no side effects with the first shot, but I’m glad I’ll be visiting him next week and know what to look for. I don’t know though, if it’s Pfizer or Moderna

Most of the side effects are experienced after the second shot, a lot less people have any reaction other than arm pain to the first. If at all possible, people should have a day of rest planned for the next day. Not everyone will have issues, for example 2/3s will be fatigued, little over half with headaches, 1/3 with chills and/or muscle pain, 1/4 with join pain, and so on. You may get any number (or even none) of these things, and it will resolve after a day or two. I just got hit with chills again, and only now climbed out from under 6 blankets pilled on each other...and I'm eyeing going and climbing back in shortly.
It's important to note that these are all very mild, short symptoms with no long term effects and the benefit to society is huge. Been so busy recently that a day of rest is a good thing!
If your dad is going back after 4 weeks for a shot, it's Moderna. If it's 3 weeks, then it's Pfizer. Both have very similar effective rates and side effects, it just takes a little extra time to be fully protected by Moderna with its timeline. Your first shot can give you around 70% immunity, while the second raises it closer to 95% (1 week after Pfizer, 2 after Moderna). With new shots being approved soon, the best bet is to just take whatever shot is available when becomes your turn.

Moderna Shot #1 Day 5
Woke up with minor pain around both knees & shoulders. Felt queezy, almost but not quite nauseous from 11:00AM to 3:00PM. Now at 7:00PM MST, the pain is almost gone and so is the queezyness. From what I’ve read & heard, Day 5 is the worst it gets...hope so 🤞

I’m pretty sure my dad got the first shot three weeks ago. At the VA hospital in Oklahoma City. He’ll be getting the second dose on this Thursday, and I’m leaving his place on the following Monday. Hopefully he will be okay and done with any side effects by then. It’s totally by luck that I’ll be there when he gets the shot. But he’s a tough old goat lol, so I’m sure he’ll be fine. 🤞🏻 thanks so much for sharing your input and experience Quil . I hope you are able to actually get some rest and be 100% real soon. 😊
grandpakenny Thanks for posting about your vaccinations. I hope your aches go away and you are back to normal again very soon! Keep me updated. 😊

Thanks so much guys for reporting about your experience with the vaccine. It will be helpful to knowledge when the time comes Get well soon and the peace of mind feeling well be great.

Ditto on the cars LynnMarie and grandpakenny. As soon as he gets his license, my son wants my old Silverado that I bought when I was pregnant with him - hasn't quite turned over 200k miles and is around the age of LynnMarie's Sequoia. But he also moans about a finding a used car that actually has an AUX jack for his phone. 😆 Told him he gets his pick of the truck or the money from it, but not both. Extremely noisy, not really comfortable, and about 13mpg - great first vehicle! Insurance is gonna be a pain because that sucker will really damage newer cars.

Oh gosh, give him the truck for sure! At least for a year or so lol. Learning to drive in a big ol’ chunky vehicle will set him up to drive anything.😆 And start saving up for the insurance now, him being the “unmarried male under 25”. If drivers Ed is available, anywhere, put him in it this summer. Our county Safety Council offers it on a first come basis for free and I had both my kids take the course. Gave us a discount on insurance and they were taught proper driving practices, which I find lacking in the world today 🙄. The into the tank, oh, I mean the sequoia they both started driving with. 👍🏻 I’m having such a hard time finding a new car. I want a small suv, but they all have problems. Cr-vs leak gas into the oil, rav4s don’t start, Tucson’s don’t even go 🤦🏻♀️ Ugh

Two days after shot: Woke up tired, been a little cold today, but nothing like yesterday. Arm pain 90% gone. Overall mostly back to normal, and working again today. Talking to many others who have had the second shot, and they've had the same experience. Expect a day of feeling blah and it'll be better the following day. I did run a low grade fever last night.

Moderna Shot #1 Days 12 & 13 2:30MST
Yesterday afternoon, Day 12, started feeling fatigued and pain in knees and shoulders, higher pain in left shoulder which has an impingement. Loss of appetite. More than normal pain in my feet, which have severe neuropathy. Did not sleep well. All this continued until early afternoon today (Day 13). Feeling a little bit better, hour by hour. 🤞

Oh my, GPK is it normal to have the effects of the shot last so long?? What does your doctor say??
My dad got off extremely easy with his shots, Pfizer through the VA. He had no side effects with his first shot and only a mild headache and a bit of fatigue with his second shot. I was so worried for him, he’s 86.
I hope everything has all cleared up before you get the second dose. 💗

So glad your dad made it through, I was pulling for him 😁.
I had no side effects between Day 1 & 4 or Day 6 & 11 and none since this last time...I’m my old self again. The side effects I did have weren’t debilitating, at their worst, they just made me semi-miserable for about 6 hours.
Meanwhile, I took my 99 yo 8th grade English teacher (she weighs 99 lbs. too!) & her 74 yo daughter for their 1st Moderna shot last Thursday. The daughter felt a little bad on Day 3 but no side effects for her mom except minor soreness at injection spot for a few hours. (Let’s face it, if you make it to 99, you gotta be tough. 😆).
I’m not worried about Shot #2 but thanks for your concern LM, you’re a good friend 😁.
