Also also, with the non-reward gemstone habitat (i.e. the one that's permanently in the main market for gems), what price does it begin at? And is there anywhere that has all the currently known gem prices? And does the non-reward gemstone habitat count towards your overall habitat limit?
The Reward Habitat thread is up to date with the current number of reward habitats. The last extra reward habitats were the 3 x Spooky Habitats in the Halloween event. There were no extra reward habitats released in the Garden Noms or Frostivale Yulebration event.
The Rift Habitat doesn't say in the description that it doesn't count towards the overall habitat limit. I can't remember for sure, so I'm not willing to state it. Someone would need to purchase one to confirm. The Rift Habitat isn't a terribly useful habitat. It only holds Rift dragons, only gives DC and not very much. But it is a beautiful habitat to look at.
According to the Wiki non-reward gemstone habitats start at 125 gems then increases by 25 for each subsequent purchase (so 125, 150, 175 etc). But this doesn't track with what I have in game. I have 6 non-reward gemstone habitats in my parks, but to purchase the next one it will cost me 325 gems. In theory, it should only cost 275 gems. It is possible that the amount to purchase them has been increased but not noted anywhere.
I'm pretty sure that the non-reward gemstone habitat counts towards your overall habitat limit.
Thanks for tagging me adlerist . I could have missed this.
I don’t think the rift habitats count toward the cap. But I bought mine the first go around when they were released, so it could be different than now. I believe they don’t count because I have 2 giant rift, 19 large rift and 10 regular rift. But I believe they have limited the number you can own, like they did with paradise habitats. I believe paradise habitats also don’t count towards the cap. Apparently I have 50 of them, I think you are only allowed 8 now. My habitat counter says 210 out of 291 allowed. I did not have any extra habitat slots when I acquired the rift or the paradise habitats, so at that time they did not count. I believe since it tells me I have 81 extra slots now, they still are not counting.
My Ipad 6th gen is now wanting to be plugged in all the time. It is working fine except for that. I need to start saving for my new cordless device. Which may be in a few months. I am totally clueless on the type and models of apple devices. I think I want the next level up or more ram/memory so my dragons are happier. But do I need an Ipad or an Android tablet? I will most likely buy a refurbished model because of the cost. Please talk to me like your grandmother and give suggestions on what you think grandma should buy. Thanks

Theresa, I love your request to be spoken to like my grandmother - I totally understand what you mean. 😊
I don't know much about recommending devices, but yes you need more RAM. Apple aren't very helpful when they list the specs for their iPads. They only show the storage RAM, not the internal RAM. There is a big difference.
This link shows the different iPads that are available and the RAM each one has. Your 6th gen iPad only has 2GB RAM. To run DragonVale efficiently, you want an iPad with a minimum of 4GB.
As far as Apple or Android goes, I believe that DragonVale was originally an Apple game, so personally I would stay with Apple for that reason. But I'm sure that there are players who play very happily on an Android tablet.
I have found a better website in the past which gives a better breakdown of the Apple specs and if I can find it again, I will link that as well.

The ipads and tablets you can buy these days will be more than enough to run Dragonvale on, even with a max leveled park.
For reference, My phone is a Samsung Galaxy s20 which released 3 years ago, and it has no lag or stuttering on a level 170 park.
for the devices, The main 2 you can pick between would be apple and Samsung, (or another android company). When you buy an apple device, a decent chunk of the price you are paying for the brand (The "Privilege" of owning an apple device) aswell as the more simple, easy to use UI (User interface). Samsung you will normally get more value out the same price.
The cheapest iPad you can buy that has come out in the past few years is the iPad 10.2 at 400 Euros. (apologies, all links will be in german).
The samsung is same price, but overall will have a faster CPU, and I believe has more RAM aswell. (same size storage, 64GB).
If you want to go cheaper, you are pretty much locked in with a samsung or android product. something like the Samsung A7 lite might work for you, at 150 Euros.
If you have any questions, i'm more than happy to answer.

If you want to stick with Apple, I’d suggest an iPadPro. Or an iPad Air. Near the bottom of the page I linked, there’s a section titled 'Which iPad is right for you?' You can compare all the current models. Once you select the model and screen size you want, check other sites for a refurbished device.
I’d recommend purchasing a device with at least 4GB RAM, or rather, as much RAM as you can afford. Same with storage capacity. Because you can’t add more later. You’ll have to purchase a new device, so it’s worth the investment to buy what you can. I currently have an iPad Pro with 6GB RAM and 1TB storage, and I haven’t had issues running DV for the last three years.
For some reason, on Apple’s site, they don’t disclose the amount of RAM on the devices’ specs. The best way to find this info is to type the name of the device and 'RAM' (for example, 'iPad Pro 4th generation RAM').
The latest version of the iPads have at least 4GB RAM:
• All the iPad Pros have 4GB RAM or more (with the exception of the iPad Pro 9.7”, which is a first generation and would probably be difficult to find)
• iPad Air 4th generation and above has 4GB RAM or more
• iPad 10th generation (latest model) has 4GB RAM
• iPad mini 6th generation (latest model) has 4GB RAM
Keep in mind, newer devices will have a faster processor, which can make a significant difference when loading and playing DV.
If you switch to an Android tablet there’s a wide selection of devices. Just be aware that by changing platforms, you’ll lose all your Game Center friends.
Congratulations on your new device! Your dragons will love you for it, and the game will play better, so your dragons will make you happier too! 😊

theresa - if you have not decided on what to get for your next device, I just want to chime in on the iPad Air 4th generation that I bought a couple of years ago. I am not into the latest technology and am just a retired senior citizen. 😝.. But I am a huge Apple fan. I upgraded to this iPad Air in September of 2021, and have been very happy with it. It has 4GB RAM, and 64GB storage, which meets my needs. It is pretty fast. I haven’t had any glitches/crashes with DV, except for this most recent event with the Eggy Hatchy issue. However, I turned it to optimize memory mode, and usually wait a bit for the ads to reload before I click on the view button again, and so far, no crashes. 🤞… I use my iPad for almost everything: ebooks, emails, internet, shopping, messages, etc. I think most people use their phones to do these, but I prefer a bigger screen. ☺️ As far as games, I am only playing DV now. (My 3 parks keep me very busy 🤣).
I know Apple products can be costly. If you live here in the States, periodically, they have it on sale at Costco or other stores, and you can also “sell” your old device for some store gift card (I think). I also love the fact that you can go to the Apple Store to ask them questions or trouble shooting. So far, I have had very positive experiences at their store. Obviously, my thoughts are very biased, but hope it helps. 😉
Sorry to break up the conversation but I don't know where else would be suitable to ask this and I'd really like to know.
On the wiki, often for things like decorations or habitats, there will be a note that says 'having this in your park does NOT increase your chances of getting [some dragon(s) that are somehow related to the item]'. The thing that reminded me of this was the large aura habitat page saying that having the habitat doesn't make you more likely to get aura dragons.
Is there anything (or has there ever been anything) that increases your odds of getting a particular dragon (besides leveling up dragons/the EBI etc.)? Because if there is I've never noticed it.

The reason why wiki has those statements is because there are decorations that are associated with dragons so they’re usually released with the dragon. Players would assume and there were also rumors that it’d help you breed the dragon. Wiki added that statement to put an end to the misinformation. There must have been rumors about the Aura habitat too. It’s outdated now, but it was useful in the early days of the game. It probably also prevents those assumptions from being raised again.
Is it possible to get twin Rift-exclusives from EoM/RBCs/the end of event gift, or is it never possible? I'm fairly sure I saw once that someone had a twin Rift-exclusive but they mentioned it was a bug or an old feature that got removed or something.

It is no longer possible to get twin rift exclusives. I can't remember the specifics for others, but I have twin rift Spore dragons as when they were first released it was possible to breed them in co-op and get twins.

There are some players that have some twin rift exclusives and/or pedestals. I have a couple. On the very first event when they were released there was a glitch with Spore that allowed twins because you could breed them in the regular coop cave. Some of us made Spore armies after I posted the glitch to get our rifts going. Light and Dark Rifts could also be bred as twins before the ‘rift’ event so if you had those already they were left alone. Also at the very end of that rift event you could choose a twin of any of those first rift event dragons and some people chose a twin rift if you already had the regular version. You can no longer choose them from calendars, runic caves or get them as gifts or wishes.
Are the Transfiguration Tower 3x3 and the Rift Breeding Cave and Hibernation Cave 4x4? The wiki says they are but I'm sure the cave, at least, is bigger.
I'm asking because I'm planning where to put things to be able to upgrade all my habitats to Regal. I'll have enough space on the plan if the Wiki is correct but need to reorganise a lot if it isn't. 🤞

Thanks to all who offered suggestions for my new tablet. The kids decided I needed a "gaming" tablet. 8 gb ram! The display is super great. And it was on sale under $200.
Now waiting on deca to transfer my ipad dragon's to my new android tablet.
Waiting.... I'm not a patient person.....
Update:. My park is fully restored and the art work has so much more detail! The vale really is beautiful.

That is great news, theresa. You won't know yourself and you will enjoy playing in your park so much more. 😊

To all my DV friends: On March 10 I underwent a very serious (cancer preventative) surgery. I’ve been recovering ever since… recovery from this surgery is long and arduous (I was in the hospital 24 days), especially at my age, I didn’t know it was gonna be this long or rough… haven’t felt like doing anything until today, my first day back on DV. Thanks to all who gifted me in my absence, very much appreciated.
I’ll try to play for as long as I can, at least one complete collection… got a a lot o catching up to do.

Take care and concentrate on getting better. Were you on the east or west side of the mountains for your surgery?
Let me know if I can do anything to help, especially if you are on my side of the mountains.
