The Wishing Well does not work as a substitute because it's just an alternate version of buying dragons. Most people seem to play this game for the fun of breeding dragons.
When we thought they were going to be regular things happening every moth or so, it made sense that they could replace BeB with the smaller and more focused Collection Comebacks. But they haven't done once since September of last year...
Personally, I can't count the number of times I have seen people say they spent an entire $50 or $100 iTunes/Google/Amazon gift card on gems during the holidays.
BeB is good business, it's functionally necessary for new players to not feel left out in the cold, it's basically a tradition at this point and I see no reason to do away with it at the moment.
If they don't do a normal BeB, then they need to come up with a clever new event during the season that will make them similar amounts of money...

I chose Other. Does anyone else remember an early BeB, 2012 or 2013 maybe, when BFS tried to get votes for Most Wanted Dragons to return at BeB? They ended up making them all available, but I wonder if now, with better social media saturation, we might be asked again to vote, making a shorter list of selected dragons on offer for the holidays, while a recurring Summer Faire Event will give us all a more leisurely and pleasant catching-up. Fingers crossed.

My thoughts precisely.
And about the breeding dragons not buying: I agree, yet I have seen no one outraged by the fact that Faire and darkling cannot in anyway be bred with patience. Grrrr....

I see no reason for any outrage about it.
Many (most?) event dragons have been unavaliable to breed until the following BeB
This is done to encourage participation in the event.

I dunno, I just don't like the fact that they are so expensive and can't be bred without buying one first. Same thing is true of the previous dragons.

You added a condition when you said "without buying one first" that isn't in the original wording. Faire can be bred with Faire + Faire. Which makes the original statement from BFS true.
Now you could say that the gemstone dragons make the statement a lie, but "with a little patience" just means you need to wait for their time or the BEB. This is true of all the dragons, of course.

Except Kairos … :-)
They say it can be bred with enough patience. I can cycle through all other 237 dragons breeding very combo for an infinite amount of time and patience and never get one. I count that as a lie, or at least very cheeky.

If there is no BeB they'll have to make all the limited dragons available for breeding somehow. They would be crazy not to keep doing it, since I'm sure lots of people buy lots of gems during BeB.
I started DV in June 2013, I still don't have a Century dragon and I only have one Panlong. There were so many dragons I was able to get during the last two BeB, but Panlong was such a PITA that I've only gotten the one and Century was my least concern. Now at least I can co-op for a second Panlong, if I ever get the time...

^ is why I'm 99.9% sure there will be a BEB during the usual time. And the fact that new parks don't have the wishing well--so if more wishes becomes available, those players will have to get a wishing well somehow too and currently they aren't given to new parks.
I experienced my first BEB last year and I just assumed it was a holiday gift which doubled as something to "entertain the kids".... while staff at BFS was off on their holiday break. I guess I made that assumption when there was nobody at Backflip to answer my emails when my park crashed and was lost throughout December.
The line in bold is one reason I tend to doubt a December BEB this year. December is a BAD month to be doing anything complicated in software services, as half your staff is desperately burning through their "use it or lose it" vacation time, so you're typically pretty short staffed. Another concern is that BEB is becoming less useful due to the sheer quantity of dragons in the game now. Having every single one of the limited time ones available makes trying to breed for anything specific a lot harder, with fails that you might not have to cope with at other times of year. Better to make them available here and there throughout the year, plus through the co-op breeding cave.
^ is why I wouldn't mind if BFS came up with another way to implement BEB--maybe through collection comebacks, but in a predictable schedule and with plenty of time to breed them.

Idea: BFS should release during BeB an extra event only Breeding Cave and Nursery, just to make things easier on everyone. It would be another excuse for players to burn more gems by rushing breeding times.

Not the wish on its own. But the wish coupled with cooperative breeding largely obviates the need for Beb. And Beb has become more than a little unwieldy of late. Far too many epic fails for even simple pairings.
BTW can anyone explain the reasoning behind the return of apocalypse at this moment in time? It seems more than a little arbitrary to me.

I volunteer Bloodstone to explain the reason behind the return of Apoc.

Supermoon + a Lunar Eclipse tonight has the usual Chicken Little effect of people claiming the end of the world is nigh. I'm just always happy to see the Apoc habs on fire.
BEB...If they're going to have one, I wish they'd pick a better month, like say January-February. December is a busy time for most people in real life, and the insane rate of long fails we've been experiencing with most of the new dragons only goes up during BEB. Ain't nobody got time for that!

Now that you mention it, I do remember that a group has focused on an Apocalypse this week! Funny, when it first left the market I never imagined it would be called upon to return again except at BeB.
I like that Backflip keeps making allusions to current events in the game, as well as their other cryptic references.

I would appreciate a BEB with no event occurring at the same time. There are still plenty of dragons that I need, and a BEB (or infinite wishes) is the only way to get a few of them.
