Steam (Fire) + Current (Lightning) got Summer rifties for our family games. It worked for one so we just duplicated traits and it worked well for everyone else.
Traits of dragons don't make a difference when breeding dragons that aren't the rift-exclusive dragons.
Oh I know, but see it the same as someone posting an unlocked combo that works to get a dragon. It worked for somebody so it might work for me or someone else too. 😉
So, I got an Air hybrid in the Rift, without using an Air Rift Dragon. I am assuming because an Air Trait was active at the time. Does this mean I’ll be able to get an Air Rift dragon as a possible fail, when I use an Air Hybrid?
I have been getting other Primary Rift Dragons as fails, but only if they are one of the parents. Just checking on the Rules.
Fletch_smf Was it a Plumewing Dragon? If yes, then it can show up in any combo with an Air-traited dragon (or when the Rift Alignment is Air, which also counts as a third trait in the mix). It's a bit like Motley: the elements it has come out of nowhere. As far as I'm aware Air Rift can only result from combos where it is a parent, but there's a handful of Rift Specials that can break elemental conservation like this.
If it was something else, then I have no idea. Sorry!
... That said, I bred a Zaffer again today without using its (complicated) combo or one as a parent, so there's still some odd shenanigans going on. Blame the Ligntning dragons?
No, it was a Sonic Dragon. Basically I was wondering if I could get an Air Rift without buying one. More for the experiment, really, as it’s only 1500 whatsanames.
Well huh. That's interesting. What was the full combo you used? If there's nothing in there contributing the air element then it shouldn't be producing Sonic, at least to our understanding of the rules. Off the top of my head, I think there's a couple of dragons that contribute Air without it being a component. Platinum is one, I think there's another? If it's not due to one of those cases then your Sonic is extremely odd.
I've not heard of anyone getting a Primary Rift dragon from breeding without parent cloning one, but it's not that out there as an idea. It shouldn't happen according to the rules as we understand them, but that's true of a few things that definitely do happen in the Rift. It'll almost certainly cost you more than the 1500 Purples to breed it though, if you can get it that way at all.
I don’t recall. But I was working through my new Rift section with the basics, to build up the Hybrids. All I know for sure is that I don’t own an Air Rift Dragon yet, but I own some Air Hybrids. I don’t own any Rift epics yet, so it can’t be a substitution.

If you breed rift opposite dragons (and therefore any opposite elements together, though even less frequently) you can get their rift parents more frequently than you might otherwise. When I bred for Rift!Malachite, using Spore and Rift!Ironwood, I got a distressing amount of Plant Rifts (not very frequently. just frequently enough to be annoying) and some metal rifts. Again, not that many, but it was much easier that getting them otherwise.

I'm so confused. Sorry, I'm new to the rift, but does this mean I need to have two "rift" rainbow dragons to breed in the rift to try for the Chromacorn dragon? And if so, can anyone advise me on how to get them? I love this dragon more than ANY OTHER!!! Thanks for helping this amateur 🌈🦄
I’m new too, so let me tell you what I think is the situation.
1. Chromicorn is a Rift Dragon, and can only be bred in the Rift breeding cave. 2. It requires Rainbow + Double Rainbow to breed it. 3. Only dragons with Rift element can use the Rift breeding cave. - Therefore the Rainbow and Double Rainbow Dragon you use to breed them, must both have the Rift element.

Use 'parent finder' tick 'rift' and if you have neither Rb nor DRb, then tick accordingly and choose combos where you have those parents and which give you least 'fails' OR which give you dragons you ALSO want, as 'fails'

Thanks Fletch_smf yeah that's what I think too, but after a million tries (maybe I'm exaggerating) I have decided maybe the only way I'll have a shot at getting a rift rainbow/double rainbow is to keep buying epic mystery eggs in the rift market, though it hasn't worked yet. The whole rift thing is so confusing and frustrating to me... I love so many of the dragons but I just don't understand all the variables necessary to even have the slightest chance of breeding successfully. It feels like a total crapshoot every time. And leveling these guys up to increase the odds - so costly! It's like the Palm Beach of DragonVale 😢 I can't give up on the Chromacorn dragon though, I love her! Anyone with rift tips, breeding advice or help to get me there, I will be most grateful!!!

Hey Kiwichris, thank you! I still don't get it! I have a rainbow and double rainbow in my regular park, are you saying there's a way for me to use them in the rift for breeding? I tried moving them to the rift but they were not available to move, only rift dragons were transferable. I'll check the sandbox link and see if I can figure it out. Thanks for being so patient with me
ok how in the tarnation do I get rainbow dragons in the rift??? this one has me stumped.....
Same as you get them outside the rift... breed any combinations of 4 elements (rift counts as an element too).
If you get a regular rainbow/double-rainbow... throw it through the portal (as it can't do anything other than hibernate in there). You have to get a rift trait to be able to use it as a breeder and pop it on an island.

Oh bettyburns, don't apologise! This is why the Utterly Rifted Club was formed, and meets regularly n the far right corner of the Whine Lounge 🙃 Now, the Rift is uninhabitable by Vale draggies (not enough air or something) and vice versa; they can sleep in each other's hibernation caves, but that's all..and therefore can't coop them either, unless until BFS create Rcoop breeding 😱😆
so, it's just like Vale from the beginning, and you can safely ignore what the days trait is in the Rift too, unless you're breeding a R special that requires a trait, and the sandbox will say that, just like some V draggies require Day or Night settings, and the sandbox says that too...ok so far? so, for Rb family; just follow the steps I outlined above; let me know if navigating the sandbox is confusing, and I'll try to break it down... Ok?! 🐨🐨🐨🐨🐨🐨🐨
