Edit: after logging out and going in my park later, all my spores show the plant trait. It seems that it was just a bug...
It's the same bug that allows you to feed the dragons cheaply until you logout. Once the dragon gets the 'trait', it is expensive to feed. Same with the dragon egg in the social menu, if they have a trait then they'll be expensive to feed from the start. I'm guessing that the bug is that DV doesn't assign the trait properly when bred in the normal park and first hatched, but when you log back in it reloads your park, and loads the trait properly. Once they fix the assigning of the trait, it'll fix this current bug on feeding them.

O dearie dearie me, just proved that the hard way, all food gone on one spore gift I didn't realise would NOT take a hatch space but go straight to habitat... 😖
Help please; I have one spore twin gift left in social menu: how do I keep it as a pedestal ? It does not seem to give me that option anywhere, but goes straight to habitat with hatch only available. Do I need to make no hab spaces available ? Thanks for any advice 😳

Oh I got smacked hard! 3 meadow with light traits in a row when breeding meadow w light and radient w light trying for malachite THEN a plain palladium and maganet. I need to stop before I rip my hair out.

I would imagine, in order to get a twin spore pedestal, you would be the one who needs to breed the twin spore in your park, and then it goes right to your nursery, instead of being the one to receive the twin from someone else. That's what I've done. And spore + spore has pretty good odds, so I'd just keeping breeding yours with someone else's.
1) Normal 2) Twin 3) The one in the picture = normal with riftsign(?)
Thank you!
Olds
Hi Olds,
I'm not the best at explaining things, but I'll give it a go!
The simple answer is yes, there is a now a third type of dragon - but only for the original 90 hybrid dragons. So looking at your screenshot, there is a third type of smoke dragon, but it is impossible to get a smolder dragon of the third type (for now, backflip might add them later).
More about the third type...
If you find your Smoke+ dragon and have a look at it you will see that it displays 3 elements: fire, air and rift. Your normal and twin smoke dragons are just fire and air.
Third type, or rift type, dragons are bred in the rift and will always have a "trait". That's dragonvale speak for the element symbol in the circle that you can see on smoke+ in your screenshot. The trait can be any of the 10 elements, plant/fire/earth/lightning/cold/water/air/metal/light/dark.
You could see this as being 10 separate extra types of smoke dragon, one with each symbol. However, you don't need to collect all 10. when you breed a new smoke+ dragon, for example one with the plant symbol that automatically makes it possible to change your original smoke+ dragon to a plant symbol and back to a fire symbol whenever you want. So I see it as a third type of dragon, but with 10 settings to unlock.
Finally, a note on pedestals. You can also make pedestals of the third type for your Eggland. They look very similar to the pedestals of the normal dragons, but they have a slight animation on top. It's more visible on some eggs than others. The trait makes no difference to the pedestals, so there are just 90 to collect.
However - the more I learn about this new thing, the more I wonder if BF has shot themselves in their foot. It's too much, to much new things to learn at the same time. I am old but I both have a jobb some days a week when I want and when I don't chose to travel. I also do research and write articles. I am not sure this play can be combined with my other life any more ... I just take it easy and stick in the back row. I am not used to that position ... but .. I will not stress - it should just be fun.

I hate to say it, but I believe you will not be able to make that dragon an egg. The only twins I was able to convert to an egg were ones I made myself, or ones that I received while I was currently logged into the game and pulled out immediately.

Started noticing that my income was decreasing and I wasn't readily replacing what I spent on treats. Aha moment today when I realized that all my Rift dragons are gone to the Rift and took their income with them! As my Rift expands, I think I'll bring back some Light and Dark Rifts, since they earn as much as any other up there, but much more below.

are you talking about a malachite with a light trait, for the viridian breeding combo, or just in general? The good thing about BFS changing the breeding rules is that opposite dragons just need to have the two elements in the breeding combo in order to be bred. So if you got a spore with the spore glitch this weekend, spore + light rift could get you a great shot at getting a malachite with a light trait. You could also do radiant/palladium + fungus/nightshade, or acid/promethium + luminous/meadow if you wanted to double up and try to get malachite, ironwood, shadow, or mirage all as breeding outcomes! There are lots of different options, I'm running spore + light rift but I've gotten ironwood and malachite by using radiant and plant rift, and poison/flower with metal rift.
I bred for Thunderbird today (no luck) and got three differently traited Quake dragons in a row. The third one was Quake[lightning], and, since I love the lightning effect, quickly fed it up to level 7... only to realize a minute later that I already have a level 7 Quake[lightning]. *facepalm* All that lovely, precious food, wasted. At least he's earning more E, I guess. Sigh.
My disorganized mess of Rift dragons is getting out of hand. I think it's time to start sorting by dragon type and maybe making sections/sectors of trait colors. Ugh. Not looking forward to moving everyone.

Well, silver lining is that, when you do breed another Quake with a trait other than lightning or the other 2 you already have, you could hatch it then sell it (or possibly release it, I know other people have stated the new trait still gets unlocked this way, but I hate to risk it for 100 E3M, when generally the dragons I get sell for decent DC and it's just what I would do, I do release if the dragon has a duplicate trait), and if you have your Transfiguration Tower, you can change the 2nd lightning Quake to the new trait.
I hear you on the disorganization. I WAS trying to keep my dragons separated by rift trait (not elements) but now with this spore glitch, most of my habitats have so many spores and a good deal of dragons are in the rift hibernation cave. When I am at a place that I've gotten enough E3M generated, habitats bought and maxed out, traits that I really want unlocked, and fog cleared, I'll go back to separating by rift traits. I like the look better that way than by elements, which I feel is an organizational style best left for my park, not Rift dimension.

If you're trying to double up for the Lacuna/Viridian/Zaffer opposites (we really need a name for these) Murphy's Law means you will almost definitely get the unneeded opposite(s) a dozen times first, then finally get the ones you were after in the trait you wanted on the other one. The dragons will laugh as you haul them and the 20k Etherium over to the Transfiguration Tower to make them work for the Final Pairing™. It's all a conspiracy, I'm telling you.
- Tinfoil Ark, sort-of proud owner of Light Ironwood (right trait, wrong dragon) and Plant Ironwood (mystery eggs are in on it too), Fire Current (wrong trait, wrong dragon, looks awesome though) and Fire Plasma (right dragon, wrong trait)
Edit: I suppooooose you could double up on Air Shadow for Lacuna and Air Blue Fire for Zaffer and you wouldn't have to worry about that. I suspect you'll be up to your ears in Air Mirages and Frostfires by the time you got both though.

Ok, so I've read this page 5 times and still cannot understand whether it's in a language I speak or ....
And absolutely no success at breeding ANY Rifties beyond about step 2 of all of A's or Sbf's various Steps For Infallable Success at Breeding Rift Dragons

Mostly English, some Dragon. I think Google or someone offers an app for translating that now.
(Fair warning: The following was written while slightly delirious due to sleep deprivation and the point may have gotten lost along the way somewhere.)
Step 2 is a fine place to be! The Rift isn't going anywhere, there's plenty of time to get the dragons. A fire-breathing dragonarium is going to be very difficult to get for a bit, but it's the same for all of us. If you're finding it confusing, take a step back and just play around in there, breed for random traits, get more dragons in the Rift. Have a look at what you get and see if you understand why they were what you got. And when you start to get it, take another look at the Rift exclusive dragons and go for the less complex ones first.
Kampos and Plumewing are magic and will probably pop up at some point just by breeding randomly. Antumbra, Ghast and Thunderbird are the nice, intermediate level ones. Normal elemental combos with one slice of Rifty shenanigans each. Lacuna, Viridian and Zaffer are a whole multi-tiered wedding cake of shenanigans and I'd be surprised if more than a few people had actually bred them legitimately at this point. They take time, effort and good RNG, but you get there in stages and we're all working towards them piece by piece.
And hey, if all else fails, you can try your luck to get them in the mystery eggs! So, yeah. You're not alone here. I've been literally drawing diagrams for some of this and despite that some of the best things I've gotten in the Rift have been from just throwing spaghetti at the breeding cave. Metaphorically speaking.
FWIW, I got Thunderbird with Lightning Rift and Earth Rift while my Rift was in Fire Trait. I had to challenge my superstition about diminishing returns with 1000eth breeding and go all the way to two thousand, but I got it!

I just love this! Thanks, Arkynos
This new rift IS so confusing & overwhelming! Thank you so much to those wonderful valers that post the simplified formulas (even though they are still hard to understand) i am right there w/Olds but keep hoping that at some point it will all start clicking for me...
On another note, i too have lost some long-term gem buddies that i feel are just not playing as much any more...
Also just found my hibernation tower & don't know what i would have done without the map on page 1 of this thread ..it saved me sooo much Etherium thanks to all you wonderful valers who post your results which help us all out

What was your rift aligned to? Metal each time you got malachite? I keep getting dragons I already have I’m going to wait for my Rift to be aligned with metal so I don’t waste magic E:) I still haven’t gotten a Thunderbird or bluefire or or or lol Thanks for the info! May the rift be with you!
UPDATE: my Rift is aligned to dark so I tried a combo and of course get malachite w dark trait lololol go figure

Thanks to the kind souls who posted about the Spore glitch. I got myself 20 spores. Five were leveled up to 20 and fifteen were leveled up to level 15. Hopefully that will help my E making a lot easier and faster to keep up with how much rift clearing and upgrading habitats costs.
Now off to make more treats since my stash took a huge, well worth it hit.!!
And thanks chemnerd for making it possible sent you three twins!!

you don't need the rift alignment to be metal in order to get malachite. The alignment only effects the traits, not the elements that are being bred. So if you want a light trait malachite, if anything you should be trying when the alignment is light. May I ask which dragons you are using?
After what felt like weeks of trying (but probably only days), I finally got ghast!! My combo was Thunderbird and Watch. While my alignment was earth, thankfully it didn't effect it.
Of course then I try for a plasma and get current instead. Lol.
