Is anyone else keeping a war chest of E just in case BFS spring something on us? I am keeping my stash above 50,000E.
Perhaps I should point out that I focussed on getting lots of habitats and Rift dragons during the first two weeks, in order to maximise E production. That's paid off I think, as I now have 25 Regal habitats full of Level 12-15 dragons, and am happily doing breeds up to and including 2000E each day.

I’m just now getting there, after getting 15 Spores leveled up to 20 to produce some decent ether-income! Working on habitats now. It’s just like how the regular vale started. I still don’t totally understand the rift, but I figure I’ll dive in.
GC: NonnyD (Please add NonnyD Vale on Facebook) Level 100 Playing since: Jan. 2013 Egg count: 373/389 Dragons: 388/393 - need rift dragons!
We have big and small problems with DV right now Some seems to know a lot Others nothing I am in the last group. However - now I am sure aboat one thing. For me a central question. As a collector of peds I have to know; Are there two och three? Now i know - at least about old STORM Its obvious I have ro collect three, If I am going to continue ...
there are 3 pedestals each, but only for the first 90 basic hybrids. Golden hybrids, limited hybrids/specials, or epics do not have a rift pedestal since they all cannot have Rift traits at this time.
Wow Cecilia. That's awesome so much better that my scrawled chicken scratch.
I'll have a look later and see if I can find the original poster. It's a wonderful tool to use with the guidance from Arkynos, BFS and the others that have been so helpful, and I'd hate members to think I had anything to do with its creation!
Cecilia at the Duckpond
Magpac I believe made that.... I colored each column accordingly ie. Fire-red, dark-purple, plant-green I’ll upload a pic. cecilia are you using the imgur app or via safari?
My Rift will be aligned to Plant today. The problem is that I need dragons that don’t require that trait. I have malachite but not with a light trait. I have shadow but not with air trait. I don’t have thunderbird. Do I bother breeding? Or do I just collect? HELP PLEASE
* I accidentally sold some dragons before I knew what I was doing.

However - the more I learn about this new thing, the more I wonder if BF has shot themselves in their foot. It's too much, to much new things to learn at the same time. I am old but I both have a jobb some days a week when I want and when I don't chose to travel. I also do research and write articles. I am not sure this play can be combined with my other life any more ... I just take it easy and stick in the back row. I am not used to that position ... but .. I will not stress - it should just be fun.
I confess, I like the rift. I do think backflip could have implemented it slightly better though. I agree they released an awful lot of new content at once and it is quite confusing in the beginning.
IMHO the rift doesn't have to take up a lot of your time. Dragonvale is still one of the best games I play in terms of having a balance between there being enough content to keep me entertained and still fitting in around real life.
The rift does does require a change of mindset though, especially for veteran players who are used to having a fire breathing dragonarium. Suddenly we have to get used to being back at the beginning, with a daunting number of breeds to do. I think that has been the hardest thing for me, accepting that I need to view this as a long term project. It may be months before my dragonarium breathes fire again and years before I unlock every trait for every dragon. This is a marathon not a sprint and I'm a very slow runner. 🏃🏼♀️
I think there is definitely an argument for ignoring the special rift dragons, with their complex breeding rules, and just focussing on collecting rift versions of all the hybrid dragons. That will give you something simple and achievable to aim for. The dragons look good and will generate etherium for you. It also means that if in future you want to get your head around the specials you'll already have some good dragons to use as parents. The disadvantage is that your dragonarium won't breathe fire.
Personally I am taking a middle road. Some days I try for a special dragon - fail to breed anything new and get disheartened, but I want them all ticked off in the dragonarium so I try anyway. Other days I just look at which hybrids I'm missing and try to fill some gaps.
I'm sure I'm not the only person here who hopes you will begin to enjoy the rift. Some of the dragons look really good in their rift colours and would be wonderful subjects for your artwork! You are right - it is a game and above all else it should be fun.
I have to admit that the Rift has gotten me all confused regarding the breeding rules...I've tried reading through the thread, but I'm still confused. Is any dragon with the Rift element (the sparkly cloud with the slash through it) considered a Rift dragon? Based on the Backflip FAQ, I thought that Rift dragons can only be breed in the Rift. However, from Steelbluefire's post (10/8) talking about breeding for a twin Spore, it sounds like it's possible to breed them in the co-op? Can I breed a Spore with a friend's Spore and possible get another Spore? How about breeding a Spore with an Alpenglow to possibly get a Spore or Alpenglow? Does this only work with the five dragons from the Event (Blightwing, Spore, Alpenglow, Voltaic, and Snowsquall)?

I just got a midday dragon in a chest for a race. I’ve never gotten a dragon before. So odd. I wasted magic E on a mystery egg thinking I would get a rift dragon. No chance.

Dear Olds, I’m in the last group with you. Since we got the new ginormous island, I’ve been trying to decide how to arrange all my egg pedestals there. Was planning two rows for each element, regular and twins. But soon realized the need for three rows, to include the new Rift trait pedestals. If I weren’t retired, I would never have time to figure out any of this new Rift business! Hang on, we are all learning this together. P.s. I really enjoy seeing your artwork!

kimiko , it seems that the spore x spore in the Vale was a temporary glitch, which some were able to take advantage of, but has since been mended this was reported yesterday either in this or tips and tricks thread, by several of the knowledgeable players, and my efforts to use it to get a twin spore suddenly produced other times and dragons and no spore, so seems to be the case. 🐨🐨

I've been using a Google Sheet to track my rift hybrids, I like things in a spreadsheet where I can edit and change things on the fly, sort the columns differently as needed, etc.

Thanks! I wish I'd managed to figure it out earlier, but I'm kind of glad to know that it was a glitch and not a wholesale misunderstanding of how the Rift dragon breeding works! Ah well, back to the Rift for breeding...

OK so I finally get a Viridian and a Zaffer. Now I need one egg for each of them. What's the fastest way (assuming average luck) to achieve that? Should I breed Viridian x Zaffer, or try them one by one using the original breeding combo (i.e., step 5 in the breeding guide)?
PS: I have been breeding basic element rift dragons with another rift dragons for quite a few times. E.g., Air R x Fire R, Air R x Smoke R, etc. Not even once did I get a basic element R dragon as outcome. Is it even possible? I need all basic rift eggs! What's the best way to achieve that? I only have one basic each :/
PPS: Do I have to breed them in rift breeding island, or regular/co-op breeding islands work too?

Ok, so I've read this page 5 times and still cannot understand whether it's in a language I speak or ....
And absolutely no success at breeding ANY Rifties beyond about step 2 of all of A's or Sbf's various Steps For Infallable Success at Breeding Rift Dragons
O dearie me! 😂😂😂 back to the Utterly Rifted Club
Mostly English, some Dragon. I think Google or someone offers an app for translating that now.
(Fair warning: The following was written while slightly delirious due to sleep deprivation and the point may have gotten lost along the way somewhere.)
Step 2 is a fine place to be! The Rift isn't going anywhere, there's plenty of time to get the dragons. A fire-breathing dragonarium is going to be very difficult to get for a bit, but it's the same for all of us. If you're finding it confusing, take a step back and just play around in there, breed for random traits, get more dragons in the Rift. Have a look at what you get and see if you understand why they were what you got. And when you start to get it, take another look at the Rift exclusive dragons and go for the less complex ones first.
Kampos and Plumewing are magic and will probably pop up at some point just by breeding randomly. Antumbra, Ghast and Thunderbird are the nice, intermediate level ones. Normal elemental combos with one slice of Rifty shenanigans each. Lacuna, Viridian and Zaffer are a whole multi-tiered wedding cake of shenanigans and I'd be surprised if more than a few people had actually bred them legitimately at this point. They take time, effort and good RNG, but you get there in stages and we're all working towards them piece by piece.
And hey, if all else fails, you can try your luck to get them in the mystery eggs! So, yeah. You're not alone here. I've been literally drawing diagrams for some of this and despite that some of the best things I've gotten in the Rift have been from just throwing spaghetti at the breeding cave. Metaphorically speaking.
Thank you!!! I've been letting myself get stressed 😩 & frustrated over all of this. I like the rift but it is so complicated and this doesn't come easy so when I read the multiple posts of info that are flying onto the forum pages I feel overwhelmed. Your post reminded me once again to just breath! Don't allow my OCD / perfectionist / I want it yesterday! Nature to make this game a time stealing stressor!! I started this game for the relaxing 😎 escape. I stayed because of the people in this forum and I am going to force myself to relax.
😫Breathe in.....look at the pretty dragons 🐉 😖Breathe out......look at the fun decorations 😣Breathe in....hmmm what will these 2 dragons produce 😟Breathe out.....oh well more E / DC / pedestals 😯Breathe in.....what info does the forum have today 😏Breath out.....YAY!! I'm not alone in this confusion 😅 😊Ahhhhhhh That's better! 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗 Utterly Rifted is becoming Thoroughly Rested!! Wooohooo New event coming !!!!!! 👻 🎃 Koala all
With the demise of game centre I just started in FB to be able to friend people from this forum and join in on the fun. Please message me if you want to send a friend request so I know to watch for you😊, I never check FB otherwise. I'm deleting random requests way too many of those 😮.

Ugh. I'm sorry, but can someone give me the quick-and-dirty version of what the heck I'm supposed to be doing in the Rift? It launched right after we were hit by Hurricane Irma, and after evacuating, coming home, dealing with a week of no electricity or internet, and still dealing with clean-up both inside and outside the house, I feel so far behind, even after carefully reading all of the posts on the first two pages (sorry, I don't have the time or energy to read the other 40ish pages). I've moved many of my Rift element dragons over there, have two habitats (one can hold 3 dragons and one can hold 4), and I'm trying to earn Etherium so I can clear the fog out of the way. I feel like I'm doing something wrong, because currently I'm only able to collect about 1000 Etherium a day, but it's up to costing me over 3000 for each piece of fog that I try to clear. Am I doing something wrong? Am I focusing on the wrong things? I only do two breeding a day, because then it starts costing me even more Etherium, and only about 20% of the time I get a dragon with a Rift trait. I feel like I'm spinning my wheels but going nowhere right now. Help!

Wow! Congratulations.
To be honest, I've got no idea what is going on with parent-cloning and Rift dragons. People have reported getting seconds of the primary Rifts from using them and something else as a pair, but it's not a common occurrence. Maybe it's meant to happen, maybe not. Either way it may end up cheaper just to buy extras from the market if you want them.
You'll definitely need to be using the Rift cave for another Viri/Zaf.. Spore shenanigans worked, but there are no common dragons that can be produced from two opposite elements so it's possible the game just shrugged and went to failsafe rules which didn't account for Rifties not being breedable outside.
As for the combo... I don't know either. The fully locked combos on VZL are unique among the Rifts: the other special Rift dragons will contribute all of the necessary elements/traits to the combo and be able to breed another regardless of whether Rift parent-cloning works or not. Except Antumbra. I haven't seen anyone reporting cloning one when not Earth aligned but that doesn't mean it can't, necessarily. Why would you even try to? In any case, it may be safer to use the fixed combos again rather than put Viri and Zaf together for your seconds, but if you do try to clone them like that, make sure to post again if it succeeds!

Quick and dirty way of getting the wheels moving:
1) Stuff as many Rift dragons in there as you can fit. Bolded for importance. More dragons in the Rift is always a good thing. Get the basic single element ones if you're missing any, you'll want at least one of each element.
2) If you need more slots for dragons, buy more habitats. Upgrade them when the habitats get more expensive/you need a larger cap for Etherium when you're collecting. (I'd personally leave the habitats at level 3 until you've got somewhere around 20 habitats, but YMMV. Level 4's tesselate well, 5's are big and take extra clearing.)
3) Clear fog when you need more space to stick habitats in. You'll want to get the buildings at some point, so clearing using the map on page 1 is a good idea, but they're not vital straight away bar completionist instincts.
4) Breed what you like in there, hatch Rift element dragons and level them for more Etherium/hour depending on how often you check in and how far you can afford to level them. Target the Rift exclusive dragons if you want them (quick guides/breeding hints on page 1) but there's no limited Rift dragons (yet??) and extra breeds per day there can help for breeding main park stuff if you're after something special.
5) Watch as it speeds up and you get to the point where you can happily spend upwards of 2000 etherium for an extra breed each day.
Hope that helps, and that any further hurricane recovery is as painless as possible. Don't worry about being behind with DV, you've had bigger fish to fry and will be able to catch up in no time.

OK got Ghast yesterday and Thunderbird today !! Now All I need are Antumbra and the 3 PITA ones ... My stats so far 18 Refined, 3 Regal habitats problem is I need to clear a cloud before I can upgrade to refined.
Still need fire Dodo (don't have any traited one) Light Malchite (again 0 tratited) Air Blue fire (have fire traited) Do have metal Plasma Air shadow (have fire and dark) And do have water mirage
Update
My rift was fire today so went for fire Dodo had to use the 1 Eth breed to get fire Lava, already had a fire Blazing. Used the rest of the breeds up to 5000 and what did all of that get me ......
Fire Sandstorm!! no Dodo at all

Why in the world that I breed 50 times for a Rift Dodo, and got nothing. Just plain useless Rift Hybrids...
I sometimes get lucky and get the dragon I want quickly, and sometimes I am unlucky and don't get it after many days of attempts (I am looking at you, Air Shadow). I mix it up and don't try for the same dragon day-after-day.
I have started collecting Rift pedestals as well.

Listened to someone's great advice about using the rift for breeding gemstones or special hybrids. So I shoved my metal traited forge and plant traited glass and two breeds later Bismuth!!! TWO BREEDS!!! I have being trying for bismuth and getting fail after fail after epic fail after EPIC fail!! So my plan from here on out is get the hybrids needed for the the gemstone breeds and not worry about getting hybrid A with trait B and hybrid C with trait D to get special hybrid E. I'll get them when I'll get them.
Today I was also going to whine about how I had not gotten an egg in the races but got myself a twin snowy gold. Haven't yet gotten one so yay!!! Also in one of my races I got the big price for food and DC, double yay!!!
