I think BFS is fixing little things as we go. Now if they only would make all the traits actually show up. I have several dragons that all I see is their floating crown because the certain traits make them 'disappear', mainly Earth and Lightning traits.

Thunderbird has been changed to a lightning/earth hybrid. It was light/dark previously.
My handwritten breeding notes from when Thunderbird first came out say "Lightning/Earth (fire trait)," and it's written in orange, which is my color code for the Lightning element. I don't get what has changed?

It's the same to breed, but the Thunderbird itself was a light/dark hybrid instead of lightning/earth. They've changed it now, which probably means the light/dark thing was an error.

Ooohhh. I get it now- the typing on the dragon, itself, has been corrected. When I first read the post, I was thinking "well, no wonder I haven't been able to breed the dang thing!" Thanks for explaning.

😂Singlemindedness does appear to be the key! I stick with my chosen combo & repeat it each reset until it's successful. In my 'little' Parks (not so little anymore) I take a more haphazard approach & they have many missing dragons still.

I've been trying for Viridian about ten times a day for about 3 weeks now. Can someone who's gotten it confirm that it's Dodo with Fire trait plus Malachite with Light trait? What level of dragons did you use?
After a week of absolutely horrible Rift breeding, I typed up my offer to the Whine Gods last night. I didn't post it, though, because it was really, really whiny. Like, bad whiny.
But it still worked!! My Rift is set on Cold and I bred both Snowsquall and Frostfluff a couple minutes ago. Woohoo!🎉 (Snowsquall is on his way to the Fountain of Youth– that jaw is mighty freaky looking in adult form, lol)

You're not introducing any other elements regardless of the rift alignment. But you are introducing other traits if you use metal/plant/air/earth rift alignment. I would stick with fire and light rift alignments, if you're trying to limit outcomes.

BFS has changed Thunderbird from a light/dark rift hybrid to a lightning/earth rift hybrid, likely to match the elements required to breed it (it didn't make much sense having a dragon be 2 completely different elements than the 2 required to breed it, unless they just wanted to give us a dragon that was easier to obtain and helped us to breed Ghast, which is what I used it for).
For anyone that managed to get a pedestal of the old version, it will stay on the light base, even though it has the correct elements now, but be sure to NOT place the pedestal into your Storage Tower, as this will reset it to the new version on the lightning base, similarly how the frostbite pedestal "glitch" was. Thankfully I had got a pedestal of the old one on a light base, so it's kind of like a collector's item now. See the below link for a side by side comparison:

I still had a Twin Spore sitting in my social menu, which I couldn't turn into a Pedestal. A few days ago, I contacted BFS to ask, if they were able to do it for me. The answer was "no", but they gifted me the Twin Pedestal and also left my twin spore egg where it was. Thank you BFS, you may had to change a few things, to cash more money in, but you're still the best!

You sure are right there. That´s a pretty huge thing for them to get wrong, I didn´t even realize when that changed. They obviously got it wrong at first and then had to change it.
I love the Rift indeed, but there seems like there are mistakes all over it, like it wasn´t really thought through. Well there you have it, my only negative words about the Rift. I do love it.

You sure are right there. That´s a pretty huge thing for them to get wrong, I didn´t even realize when that changed. They obviously got it wrong at first and then had to change it.
I thought it was bizarre, but it made it super easy to get Ghast. All you had to do was breed earth rift + lightning rift during fire alignment (or have a hybrid that had a fire trait), then you got thunderbird, and I just used Thunderbird + fire rift to get ghast! It didn't make much sense to me at the time, but I kind of thought of the rift dragons more as epics then - using some elements to get a dragon which may contribute completely different elements when it breeds with something else. I'm glad to see it has been corrected and makes more sense now.
I would stick with fire and light rift alignments, if you're trying to limit outcomes.

I mean, I recommend that with everything. But there's no difference between trying for viridian with rift alignment earth and rift alignment dark. And if you want to limit possible outcomes, then you would only try with the rift alignment that isn't introducing other traits. I don't think rift alignment matters at all for this particular dragon to be honest
