Hello all! Is it possible to breed gemstone dragons in the rift?
you can breed any dragon that uses a combo of dragons that currently have Rift traits. They will be regular gem earning dragons and will have to be transported to your regular (non rift) park in order to start earning gems.
EDIT: This post was created in 2017 when many dragons, including Gemstones / Crystallines could not be bred in the Rift. Since the post is showing in a Google search result and confusing some players, I have edited it. Below is the remainder of the post. Please be aware that Ovalith, Tourmaline, Mesolite, and Sanguinite can nowbe bred in the Rift.
The only gem earning dragons that cannot be bred in the rift breeding cave are ovalith, tourmaline, mesolite, and sanguinite, as they all have parents in their locked combo that do not currently have Rift traits.
I hope that makes sense. [For example, I can breed a regular (non twin, non rift) diamond dragon if I use an ice dragon (with any rift trait) + a mine dragon (with any rift trait). ]

I am trying to breed an egg pedestal for Antumbra and Lacuna. I tried breeding them together but kept getting regular light/dark dragon (non-rift). Is it because both have only light/dark elements? What's the best way to get a second of either if I already own one? I suppose I don't have to use the original combo in listed in the 4th post?

Oh Fire Dodo, Fire Dodo What have I done that you avoid me so? I've literally tried a hundred times Late summer, autumn, winter climes And not received a single sign The gods have heard my whine!

I'm there with you! I only need Viridian now, but I'm not having luck with procuring the traited parents it needs.
On the other hand...I've already gotten my first Aurora of this BEB...and so it begins.

Thankyou sbf ; I sit stand and fall corrected 😂
haha no worries! I just thought I'd clarify, because technically they can be bred, but just the regular versions of them (no rift traits, at least not at this time, though it would definitely look really cool!!). I've already seen posts on Facebook saying people have gotten gemstone and crystalline dragons from breeding their locked combos in the Rift, and the instant hatching is definitely a big help! No more waiting ~30 hours to see if you got it (like with barite, since it's breeding time is the same time as the Olys) and then just 2 hours until it starts earning gems! I only need 3 rift pedestals and then I'll probably be working on trying to get a couple spare crystalline pedestals from the rift too!

Thanks to amos I was able to breed Nimbus. Now I just need Ghast and viridian. To all those that have gotten Ghast what was your recipe??? I'm trying to get it before I hatch my mystery in hopes that the mystery egg is viridian.

I too only need Viridian -- and for Viridian only need a Malachite with light trait... PErhaps I should spend the 10K so I have a chance at a flaming tower before the next event starts. Hrm

Since last I posted I was able to check Willow off my list and then this morning I finally bred a Malachite! I now have at least one each of all the Elemental dragons. Tada! Only missing Viridian and Frostfluff dragons and a bunch of pedestals. Until Cold setting comes back around it’s DodoFt+MalachiteLt until Viridian shows up.
EDIT: Bred Malachite with IronwoodMt+Metal while Rift was on Metal. The Metal trifecta seemed to curtail the fails.

Hey guys, any advice for me? The last Rift dragon I need is Zaffer. I've bred both a Blue Fire and a Plasma, but neither of them have the correct traits. Should I breed Air Rift+Blue Fire and then Plasma+Metal Rift to get the necessary traited dragons and then breed for a Zaffer, or should I just spend the E and change the trait to the correct one at the Transfiguration Tower? I'm thinking especially with BEB going on, I'll potentially spend a lot more than 10000 E trying to get the correct traits, whereas if I just change them I can start breeding for Zaffer right away.
What do y'all think?

At the moment your best bet might be to go ahead and get the bundle that has Zaffer and Atumbra for 20,000 E. It's still available for the next three days from the rift market. Just go to the market in the rift then pick dragons and it should show up at the front of the list. It's what I did since I haven't even tried to get the Plasma dragon as a rift dragon yet, nevermind getting the correct trait! That way no breeding is needed and you will likely save Etherium in the long run.

Congrats! Glad I was able to help. I still have Frostfluff and Nimbus before mine breathes fire again, but managed to get Ghast today (breeding dungeon and light if it helps others) so it's only two instead of three!

Question for those of you who have paid the 4000E to change the rift alignment. I only need Frostfluff to have all the special rift dragons, so yesterday evening I changed the rift alignment to Cold. It said it would stay that way for almost two days (I think 1 day, 22 hours or something). And the timer reflected that. I was unsuccessful last night, and this morning before the reset it still had a timer of over a day. Now (around lunch time, about 3 hours after reset), the alignment has changed to Lightning. Is this a glitch? I'm now confused about how changing the alignment works...?? Has this happened to other people? Am I missing something? Thanks!

I would definitely consider this a glitch. I haven't changed the rift alignment but I have heard of this happening before.

I know that every dragon has DNA, but that only rift dragons have TRAITS. Is it possible for rift dragons to pass down their traits into their offsprings' DNA? One of the dragons I am currently breeding in the rift has an earth trait, and the other one has a water trait; I have yet to breed a dragon which contains earth or water in their DNA... Thank you!
