You are quite correct, lol. I have 3 refined habitats and 14 revitalized habitats....just went in to collect E and was going to buy another habitat, but realized the cost, 2,500 E, is what it would cost to upgrade one of the revitalized habitats. Now that I have all that space, I will be upgrading.
I have not been paying attention to the cost of upgrading....can someone tell me if the cost of upgrading them stays constant? If I upgrade each of the revitalized habitats to refined, will they each cost 2,500 E, or does that escalate like everything else. It seems like each of the habitats I bought cost 500 to upgrade the first time, then each cost 1,000 I think. Sorry...brain still foggy from a stupid sinus infection. 😂😂
The upgrade costs are consistent, ie revitalized will always be 2,500 E. While I know it might seem better to upgrade your habitats now that the cost of a new habitat is 2,500 too, consider the following: To get 3 new spots open for dragons by upgrading: 2500 x 3 = 7,500 E. To get 3 new spots by buying a new habitat and doing 2 upgrades: 2500 + 500 + 1000 = 4,000 E.
It's still more efficient to buy a new habitat and upgrade it twice, vs 3 upgrades, to get the next 3 dragons out. When the new habitats cost 6,000 E, then it's the same cost to upgrade existing ones vs buying a new one.
Quil- I’m confused. I keep buying new habitats for 500 and upgrade them. I don’t understand the comparison you are making.
* oh no I just looked and the price per habitat is now 700 magic E! It has been 500 thus far.... maybe once you get to X amount of habitats the price increases?
Yes, that's correct. Someone was talking about wanting to upgrade their habitats from holding 3 dragons to 4, for a cost of 2500 E (It's always 2500 for that upgrade). They decided this based on their next single habitat to purchase also costing 2500 E. I was pointing out that it's still cheaper to buy a new one, and upgrade it twice, verses upgrading three habitats at 2500 each for the same amount of space. Once their cost for a new purchase goes above 6k, then it's better to start upgrading.

And, I thank you. Some of what you said my finally be breaking through the fog. ☺️

IMO, the cost of enlargement is offset by the ability to check in less often.
Remember, these incomes will be halved pretty soon. Collect dragons - collect income!!

Thank you Arkynos for your combos to get the new rifts! It helps me a lot, though for the moment I'm only making little steps... I've managed to breed some dragons required for the locked combos, but unfortunately the opposites make fun of me. I bred a malachite, but with metal trait so I have to try again to get one with light trait; same with shadow, it has earth trait when I wanted air trait. I suppose that the rift trait is really important to get precised dragons? Like, to have my malachite with light trait the rift must be on light? Maybe it's a silly question, but when I bred my malachite I used metal and luminous with light trait, but the rift was on metal, so I wonder... anyone has an idea?

I need a disclaimer here: I don't know the exact mechanics or chances here and there could well be other factors, so let's call this a hypothetical model of Rift breeding.
First, the species is determined as in the regular park. Obviously if you get anything other than a normal hybrid, they can't have traits so it ends here.
If we get a normal hybrid from the first roll, we move onto a check for a trait. 4 results. 1) Inherit trait from the first parent. 2) Inherit trait from the second parent. 3) Inherit trait from the Rift Alignment. 4) Inherits nothing, gets no trait or Rift element.
I don't know the relative chances of the 4 outcomes, but I'm going to run with the simplest form possible and just say they're all 25%. It feels about that anecdotally, with no trait feeling more common than the other outcomes because of all the stuff like golden hybrids not having any traits.
If you breed Metal Rift + Light Luminous in Metal Alignment then each Malachite has a 25% chance of successfully getting the Light Trait, as the only source is the Luminous. If you breed Light Palladium + Light Luminous in Metal Alignment then each Malachite has a 50% chance of being Light trait, as it can inherit from both parents. This doubles the chance of a successful result. (And wouldn't have been a possible until they changed it so you just need the elements for an opposite and not a specific single element parent.) If you breed Light Palladium + Light Luminous in Light alignment then each Malachite has a 75% chance of being Light trait, triple the basic rate, as it can come from either parent or the Rift Alignment.
Here's the summary and TL;DR version: If you're aiming for a specific trait on an opposite, try to get both parents to have the right trait, and have the Rift aligned that way too. It really helps.
(If you want a specific trait on a normal hybrid you'll want to do both of those, but also minimise the number of dragons that the breeding combo results in. Rare breeding chances are fairly flat, but hybrid chances change dynamically so adding another non-opposite element for a hybrid roughly halves the chance of success. So for normals it's not worth getting a second parent with the right trait if you're adding elements to get it...)
It is Metal day in my Rift. I have done 5 breeds using Quicksilver set to Metal and Rust set to Metal. Results = 4 non Rift dragons and a Metal Quicksilver which I obviously already have. I get 4-5 non Rift dragons for every Rift dragon bred. I think my Rift is broken.

Ditto; nada for days a tad disheartening particularly if one is breeding partly to see if one comprehends the detailed instructions that come with the box, um, cave inference, one does not... Riftis horribilis 😱

That was exactly my thought yesterday. Did five or six breeds trying to get water mirage, because my rift was aligned to water. Only dragons without any traits, most of them just light or dark.
Today was air day. Still many dragons without trait, even bluefire and frostfire amongst them. But with my very last attempt today for 2000 E got another bluefire even with the desired air trait.
As I said, I did that on air day and also had smoke with air trait in the breeding combination, due to no other alternatives, the other parent was plain cold rift. So I totally agree with Arkynos: to maximize your chances of a special trait, try to have as many components of that special trait in the mix.
Um. Cyn. Quicksilver and rust are both metal water. What are you trying to breed? Shouldn't you have plant in there. Confused
"Confused"... you and me both. For some reason I thought I could get a Plasma out of that. rob0tr0n: do not take down your Sandbox, I am going to need it.
I have no idea what I am doing and any Rift dragon I have gotten is purely by accident and not one I was actively trying for. What would adding Plant give me?

Plasma is Lightning/Water and you've got no Lightning element.
Adding Plant to Metal and Water gives Malachite, Ironwood, Swamp and Seaweed I believe... And maybe some Epics or something, I can never remember what they need. 🙃

Yup. Breeding rust plus cactus gives you the chances of four opposites now with the new rules. Current, plasma, malachite and ironwood. Epics don't matter now with instant breeding so go to town. Aurora I'm talking to you.

If you are using a computer, there is a link to the Imgur website in the first post.
If you are using a mobile device, here's a shortcut to Imgur's uploading section: m.imgur.com/uploadApp (tap the X to close the full-screen ad for the Imgur app and that will uncover the uploading tools- you'll recognize the screens from the instruction pics.)
*Edit: Ugh. Sometimes mobile link (it's a copy of my Imgur bookmark that I've used forever) goes directly to the uploading page, other times they redirect you to their main page to try to get you to sign up to the site. They started doing that a few months ago... I even checked it after posting and it was working, but now it's redirecting. Sorry. When it does that, I just keep reloading the link till it gives me the correct screen. Cussing at it seems to help, too. Or, you can tap the site's menu button in the upper left (the 3 little horizontal bars), choose 'sign in,' then tap the menu button again, then choose 'Home,' THEN you are able to see and tap the little upload cloud icon on the top right...which takes you where you need to be. Sigh. What a PITA. It's so annoying they changed it.
Hey, Imgur, no one wants to sign up to your annoying 'social media' thing, everyone just wants to do free, anonymous uploads from your website.
I thought I was bringing Lightning and Plant to the breeding. No? My Quicksilver is Metal, Lightning, and Water. My Rust is Metal, Lightning, and Plant. It is a Metal day in my Rift so do I have to use the Transfiguration Tower at this point? Change my Quicksilver to Lightning and or change my Rust to Lightning or Plant? I am not a geneticist... HELP!
