fyi used Elder cold, worked on second try, was prompted by freitag's post 👻👻
I can confirm this method did not work for me 👻 I used elder earth breeding for a gargoyle and it netted be zero gargoyles after whistling through a few hundred gems. Can't complain too much as I have had awesome 🐨 with the new Rift dragons 😂

I have been trying and trying but all I seem to get is bone after bone, by the end of this event I might just have enough bone pedestals to do a bone fence for the entire island. Here's another - I picked someone's level 16 Oni and pitched in Elder Earth and it's now sitting on a 12-hour breed time. Checked the possible other results in the Market and it now looks like I've got an Oni coming up.
I tried Elder Fire with Dracabra earlier, but that seemed harder to crack (more elements). I drew 2 fails before I switched to a simpler combo.
Alrighty then kids, we are a few days away from the halfway point of the event. We have also made it more than halfway to the group reward which is symbolized by a Spooky Mystery Egg picture. GO US! If it is a Spooky dragon we will be rewarded with, hopefully they will try to give us one we need and not one we have six of.

Am I missing some trick to eliminate the Blue Fire, Frostfire, and Spectre from possible outcomes for Oni+Elder Earth?

You're correct, Oni is 12 hours and there's no way to eliminate the elements for the other 3 dragons at 12 hours. At least the others are all rare dragons, so you're actually more likely to have an Oni if you get 12 hours. Got mine on my first 12 hour breed.

You're correct, Oni is 12 hours and there's no way to eliminate the elements for the other 3 dragons at 12 hours. At least the others are all rare dragons, so you're actually more likely to have an Oni if you get 12 hours. Got mine on my first 12 hour breed.

The alignment doesn't matter so much for the spooky dragons, you just need the right elements. So are there any of those you want? You could put plant, fire, earth and cold in to cover several at once.
I am totally ignoring traits and alignment whilst trying to collect the spookies. I'm just trying to get one of each, regardless of trait. I suspect that if we have one we'll be able to collect the other traits later.
Failing that, dark alignment days are a good time to go for blightwing or voltaic. Or you could just put together a couple of elements you know you need both hybrids from.

I agree with this completely. Just go for the spooky dragons each day. Most can be gotten with Fire / Earth / Cold / Plant, so just breed something with those 4 elements until you have most of the spookies. Stop trying each day when the costs are too high for you. For me, that's at 10k attempts. My wife stops at 1k, as she has less islands and dragons. In either case, several breeds a day is more than you'll get in your main park in those caves without spending lots of gems. You get lots of attempts, even though it doesn't feel like it since it's over in seconds!
For now, don't look at the traits. If it's a new rift hybrid or spooky you don't have, keep it. If it's a new egg and you collect those, keep it. Otherwise release it for more Etherium. As long as you get a spooky dragon, you can unlock its other traits in the tower on a future date, when Etherium isn't as big a deal and you're rolling in it.
Don't worry about all the extra hybrids you released that may have had different traits - you kept at least 1 that can be set to any unlocked trait for free in the tower. I'm actually planning to keep two of each dragon so I can pick a couple of my favorite trait appearances.

Ummmmmm. Never release a traited dragon unless you have 40 habitats and all slots are full. If you feed a duplicate to level 5 (118K food) in one day you have made back the e you would have gotten 5x24 =120 . After that it's all gravy and you are ahead. You need the e. I feel this is the biggest mistake that people do in the rift.
Following this strategy I am at 38 regal habitats and am breeding through the 5K ones every day. I even made 88 spores and fed them to 16 normally which is equilivalent to rift 9. My e/hr is ~2700 and will hit 2900 at max
I work long hours so yes I hit cap earlier but a quick bathroom break or lunch and I have a maxed collection waiting for me. When I'm home I can check 4-5 times before bed and the e/hr quickly adds up.
Ps. You might even take the Dc instead of e with om of noms coming if you absolutely have to dump the dragon.

I release all duplicates at this point. I used to keep some extras to fill habitats, only if I had an extra open spot, but I was generally bringing in more dragons than I was opening new spots. I'm at 30 habitats, all max, with an additional 30 dragons in my hibernation cave that I'm having to cull through. I never got to the 40 habitats quickly since I didn't do the spore trick with cheaper food, so most of my dragons are level 10-12 and I'm not getting quite enough to clear rifts and build new habitats daily, especially this event when breeding for spookies at up to 10k. At that rate, I'm better off releasing anything not new as I gain new dragons faster than I gain new habitats.

To everyone who said to just breed and the rift alignment doesn’t matter (tongue out). It matters 100% in my park. I can’t get a single dragon, spooky etc. I get randoms that I want to kick to another rift... nightshade, crypt, and the list goes on:(

Frostfire and earth. Obsidian and poison worked for Treat (that’s the ONLY one I’ve gotten) I assume you’re referring to the rift? If not the combos are endless.
