I think it was a lot easier not to use the breeding cave during that event than it is not to use the cards. For this event BFS has effectively reduced options for obtaining event currency to an all time low while allowing players almost unlimited accumulation. This move encourages people to dump their resources. Diabolical if you think about it. Effectively they have said, here ya go have at it, collect all the event currency you can manage, magic is yours for the collecting up to 10,000 a day, which is relatively unheard of in recent events. However it is very difficult to collect magic at all especially without using the cards and the cost of event prizes is quite steep. Surely we can be certain this was by design. In order to add to the illusion of an event that is everything one could have ever hoped for, the dragons are breedable. Another trickster move since, with the extremely low breeding odds we have been suffering with recently, it is no real favor at all.
I don't think as a rule boycotting works very well, it's effectiveness is rather limited especially in regards to something that people actually want but are giving up for the greater good. That is not a sustained position and people generally lose interest in time and give up the sacrifice. When you are boycotting something that is not really advantageous to you in any meaningful way, such as that event breeding cave and perhaps that airship, it can be successful. However, as grandpakenny pointed out, the airship is still taking up space. One could almost come to the conclusion that BFS isn't much moved by what the players want. If that is the case there isn't much a player can do but stop playing or deal with it. BFS is more interested in smoke and mirrors and other illusions, and while I, like most players, are not falling for their machinations, I'm still trying, with eyes wide open (or shut as the case may be) to fill those evil cards with a minimal amount of damage to my resources. I feel I'm between a rock and hard place with this event. Very tricksy indeed!
Wow! I think this has turned me off Dragonvale:(. I’m at Max Level and 2 of almost every dragon and I find this event a waist of time. Even when breeding two of the same dragon after 15+ tries I am still not getting the dragon I need (with 24 hr incubation times). This seems like a Scam to spend your gems!
Oh Dragonvale! I will miss you but this game is no longer fun...Time to find a new game...After all the years, I am done.
I for one am someone who is really enjoying this event. It's allowing me to make much more than the 1,000 currency per day we would get from normal event. So far I've collected close to 30,000 magic, have 4/5 event dragons all while spending less than 100 gems and this is with moderate (maybe slightly good) luck. It's all about strategic breeding such as using the rift to get rid of those long breeds, maximizing double days, planning ahead, etc... Of course I'm someone who has pretty much everything there is to get, almost all dragons in Twin form too for reference.
For someone whos doesn't have 2+ copies of every dragons and less resources, I could see them not enjoying the event. I still think anyone can do better than the 1,000 currency per day we would get from normal events. I think the frustration of not being able to fill out donation boards is getting to peoples heads even though they most likely are doing pretty well currency wise. I do like the donation board system, but I do see the majority of players not really a fan of this. I can see why as this event has it's flaws such as the difficulty of boards is not progressive as in it can go from super easy to extremely hard on your next board. Even though I enjoy this, Backflip really needs to tweak the system because I'm seeing a lot of players getting turned off by this event..

"Hi Backflip, I really like the concept of donation boards for this event but the main problem here is that the donation boards go from moderately easy to extremely hard real fast. Often times There's no in between. A lot of players get stuck with boards that contain all/mostly epic slots thus the difficulty shoots up. It makes sense for the boards to get harder as you get to your 2nd, 3rd, etc.. board per day but I think the difficulty of boards should reset when the day (if you reach the limit of 5) does or when your current board expires.
A system like the following would allow most people complete atleast 1 board per day which = less frustration:
1st board: no epics, lots of "any dragon of X element", and 1-2 rares at the most 2nd board: no epics but more rares than the first 3rd board: 1-2 epics 4th board: 3-4 epics 5th board: almost all epics
Assuming boards per day which resets.
Just a suggestion, though I personally love this event and would love to see the donation system kept in future events. Have a great day!"

Well, so much for the ‘easy’ Bingo Card after the ‘impossible’ Bingo Card theory...my next Card was identical except in place of a Dream, I got a Rainbow...oh yes, the Boxes were in different positions 😬

I guess you have a point. I don't like to think it is me, I prefer to imagine it is the odds stacked against me or a BFS plot to trick me into cheerfully blowing through my resources. I suppose it could simply be that I am not breeding strategically or using the rift to my best advantage. I may not be maximizing double days or planning ahead even though I think I am. I know I could be more mindful and purposeful in my strategies. It is certainly easier to look outside myself for the reasons I am failing miserably at this event, but that doesn't give me much power to change things. Looking at the problem as something I'm not doing at least gives me the possibility of changing it because I don' t think I have a snow balls chance of changing BFS' marketing strategy. Perhaps I could be more successful if I develop a different strategy. Unfortunately I am at a loss as to what this might be. Maybe i have to start at the beginning, tilt my head and look from another angle and believe that it is not all about luck. I can influence the outcome of this event. Hmm. I know I believe I'm doing all I can to give myself my best shot, but maybe I'm not. I figured out how I would be doing if we were collecting 1000 event currency a day with 2000 double days every other day After ten days, if every other day was a doubles day, I would have collected 15000 plus whatever free magic was given. Right now I have 15138 and I bought a surface habitat for 2805 so that brings the total to 17943. That sounds right on par. I only managed to breed one event dragon so far, but I suppose that is right on par for me as well. The only difference I find is the temptation to blow through resources with those cards. Anyway I plan to try to come up with strategies that I'm not already implementing that might influence the outcome of my event experience. This community will certainly help with that as smart and generous people are always sharing helpful hints here. So thanks to you, Portent 78, for your different perspective and thanks to all the helpful players on these boards. Wish me luck. Well, no, I guess not luck.
Sorry kiwi but I foresee this replacing the airships permanently. Too many major changes to buttons for just an event. It will remain.
No, nO, NO, ABSOLUTELY NOT! If they do this it is because they want to kill the game. Consider the consequences: They make the cards a permanent fixture. Every player starts hoarding their gifted twins hoping they will be needed on a card. Everyone’s social menu is overflowing with hundreds of twins. Game crashes and server problems are baked in the cake. Players abandon the game in droves. Hasbro uses that as an excuse to pull the app. HAS retools the app and introduces: LittlestPetShopVale or MyLittlePonyVale Wouldn’t take much to gin up doggie, kitty, or pony artwork. All other coding is done. They now have another vehicle to push their plastic toys which is their real business. One need only look at what HAS did with Supercell and Space Ape Games to greater monetize Transformers.
Cyn could absolutely be right. And remember, in september the game will be 7 years old ... number considered deadly in a marriage lol. So maybe, they want to "divorce" us...The honeymoon is over.

On subject about retiring the game soon, I finally bred an Oracle in the Rift with no trait. But I didn't care, it's still an Oracle and I haven't got one yet.

Yikes. Cyn. I’m sorry. You have me terrified now, Supposedly when someone on one of my other boards wrote backflip on how much the HATED This event they were told it was an “experiment”. Think they need to fire the new game director.

That's their standard verbiage. I asked about the loss of free gem videos a while back, and they responded "videos are a feature we are still experimenting with". In all honesty, everything they do is an experiment to see what works well and what doesn't. It's also the only way to improve the game. I just wish they'd cancel failed experiments a lot faster, maybe at the same speed that they fix early release dragons as events are about to start.
breeding epic dragons is hard. breeding for a surface dragon is hard, but if you're lucky, you get a surface dragon. breeding for an epic donation is hard, but if you're lucky, you get a fraction of the magic you'll need to buy a surface dragon from the market. epic donations are a trap. just my 2cp on the subject.
A newbie’s point of view.... I discovered DV less than a week before this event started. I love it! I have no friends, no store of gems, no rift, and certainly won’t spend real dollars on it..can’t anyway. I have read all the posts with great interest, and was surprised to find the majority don’ t like the event. I don’t doubt for a minute that your reasons are good.. I have no experience of other events to compare it with. But it is helping me get ahead quicker than I otherwise would. Sure, I don’t complete boards, but i’ve come close a couple of times. I have the large omnitat, which wasn’t available otherwise, and I hope to get a chrysalis dragon or two before the end. Perhaps this event is aimed more at new players rather than experienced ones?
