Yes I did already have the fire effigy, from Ghostly Fire last week. Do not have the earth effigy yet. Trying to breed Ghostly Obsidian now.
Each dragon has its own effigy. I guess if you have fire it works for lava and obsidian???
I'm guessing that's true, since all have fire elements. It looks like I'll have to buy the ground effigy if I want the ghostly earth dragon, since it isn't accessible for me to buy, but the ghostly lave, fire and obsidian all are.
edit: I should have said each "element" has it's own effigy, since apparently all the fire dragons are available if you have the fire effigy. Does that make sense? Will be interesting to see if anyone breeds a Ghostly Earth using the Ghostly Fire dragons, since lava and obsidian have an earth element too.

YAY! I finally completed the Tendrils! Don’t have any idea which dragon those transform but I’ll figure it out. Strange that those were the ones I started out not being able to get at the beginning. Still need the Purple Porcelain and three of the Flames. Have not been getting any Flames in any Chests for days now. Did someone turn them off? You guys getting Flames still? Lots and lots of duplicates, I have saved them all and may be able to fill up an entire Island by the end of this. Is anyone getting a free Chest from Whitbee? I have found him virtually every time and have never been gifted a Chest. What a cheapskate!

I just need the pink flame of corruption but no luck yet. I am hoping on Friday when the games switch I will I have a chance of getting a chest in the dragon drop game. I have had no luck purchasing a day chest, just getting dups. I guess the flames are hardest because you can only get a certain 5 in the night and a certain 5 in the day so your odds are even more limited. Pink flame is only available in the day. But since I don't have a chromacorn to evolve I suppose it's no rush really.
I'm not sure I even want to buy the effigy of the flame or the ground. I don't know why I would want a ghostly lava or obsidian or whatever. But I don't want to rule it out either. I don't know. The completionist in me is positive it needs these effigies and ghostly dragons, but the rationalist in me is like well, just give me one good reason.
I just get duplicates from the Chests in the Market so I gave up.

Yep, thanks viviane ! Still need Purple Porcelain which is Day, Orange+Blue Flames also Day, and Purple Flame which is Night. Using Candy to buy Chests has given me all duplicates after the first Chest that I bought. Winning the Chests through Games keeps giving me Tendrils which I have completed and do not need and/or Teal Flames of which I now have 7. Hard to believe BFS decided to switch back and forth between the Wheel and Dragon Drop and Day and Night since winning at the Wheel is impossible. Why didn’t they just replace the new impossible to win coding with the old better luck at winning code? It would also be nice if Whitbee coughed up a Chest once a week instead of never.
Still haven’t been able to breed a Chromacorn though I tried the entire time it was available the first time and from the start of this event. Level 20s mean nothing in my Rift. I have one that was gifted in the daily rewards but I will not change it until I have a second. A dragon breeding game in which it is impossible to breed the dragons is really very sad.

I broke down and used a wish for my 2nd Chromacorn. Now using both Chromacorns in the Rift it’s like the Chromacorn Floodgate has opened up. One after another. It’s annoying you have to scrape the barrel to come up with the first 2 but it’s nice that it is worth it in the end... That Corrupticorn is actually pretty cool the way it fades from one color into another in a sort of anti-rainbow.

My ‘plan’ at this stage is just to buy the precursors we need in order to transform/breed these new dragons, cos I am at max habs, almost max sleeping niches, and totally maxed islands (altho wish soon and will buy next island...but no habs...so move all less than giant habs thus ruining deco delight park, in order to house dragons)...enzed has a housing crisis and now so does Kiwi Chris’ park 😩
actually, confession, I don’t really care any more abt keeping up w the dragons 😱 I’m playing my own game within this running amok game, and just enjoying that 😈

Kiwi Chris is not the only one who's decided to make their own rules for how they play Dragonvale.
I feel quite liberated since deciding I'm no longer going to chase each and every dragon. Nearly seven years now, and every event I've contributed cash to buy whatever the event currency was, being happy to support Backflip for providing such an enjoyable and rewarding game.
I used to collect pedestals, but found that added such stress after trying to breed two of each dragon. So one day I sold off all the pedestals except the ones I found attractive, and have never regretted that move.
I've bought a couple of the new dragons each event and managed to coop breed others, and every now and again my dragonarium breathes fire and I feel pleased.
But things have changed. Having spent several hundred gems in pursuit of one piece which finally enabled me to transform one dragon, I refuse to use more resources to win just one more duplicate to add to the crowd I have. I've sold off many of those and purchased a cask - which just replaced one I'd just sold.
Now we have what looks like a long line of yet more dragons to be transformed and collected. Not even dragons I like much - so they would be doomed to be merely dropped down the slippery slope into the dungeon with over 300 others.
The pressure is off. I no longer need to see my dragonarium sparkling. I no longer spend money for candies or whatever, and feel no need to breed or transform ugly dragons.

I love your approach cecilia, particularly regarding peds and dragons that don’t please your aesthetic sense... I’m feeling quite drawn to that idea; being a ‘decorator’ and not at all a ‘completionist’ myself, I love the idea of decluttering my park and then either selling off or putting into sleeping niches the dragons I don’t find pleasing 😃 radical!
Similarly, I was happy to contribute a modest amount of RL$ to ‘the old’ BFS; they felt like extended family with hugely artistic and generous spirits, but no more. Everything changes ... life is change, so I will continue to make changes to how I engage with this game, so my enjoyment of it remains 😊
Well I think this event may have cured my need for all dragons. I had already changed to getting new ones at my own pace, but I am not sure I even want some of the new ones.
Golden hybrids should have been released as normal release dragons in between events. Ghostly dragons should have been new dragons that we have never seen. Event currency and dragons should not be dependent upon gambling.
I normally try not to complain about the designs of dragons because of the creators, but these rehashed ghostly dragons just scream LAZY. Fire, Earth, Lava and Obsidian??? If you had to use old dragons there are other spooky dragons that would have made way more sense...Ghost, Bone, Spectre, Spirit or Zombie to name a few.

I think this issue is that they have recently been going after a different type of player to earn money. While there are many of us willing to spend 5-10 every few months to finish up events, there are a much smaller percentage of players who are willing to spend extremely large amounts of money on a game. They are known as whales, the big fish in the ocean, and companies make the majority of their money off these whales. When one player drops thousands per month in the game, it takes many hundreds of the rest of us to equal their spending. So many mobile companies have discovered that if you put giant paywalls in a popular game, these whales just spend more to get over that wall. That's what we're seeing with Dragonvale this year. Harder and harder to get dragons that increase the spending of these few players. It also explains the crazy policy of no free gems to players who spend money, they want the whales spending more.
On the flip side, if the company isn't careful and they chase away all the small fish, the popularity of the game drops. When that happens, the whales often see the decline in activity in friends lists, forums, social media, etc and they end up leaving too. It's a very difficult balance to reach when you go this route.
I loved Dragonvale for so many years because they did NOT follow this model. This is used by so many other mobile companies so that the IAPs in most games seem absurdly crazy in cost when compared to games on the PC, consoles, etc. This is the route that DV World was taking, and why so many of us had negative opinions of the game and stopped playing. I hope they can correct Dragonvale's direction before they ruin an amazing game for everyone.

There should at least be another Golden Hybrid, which will probably be released when Chitin expires. At this point, who knows what to expect???
Breeding through the 15k attempts, still not been able to get a rift Chitin. One day left now, but I really wanted to use this time to try for a Chromacorn. I just figured the unicorn was so unlikely that I'd be better off trying for Chitin. Guess I was wrong, both are terrible!

By ‘casual players’ did you mean non-whales? Coz I don’t think Valers who have played for 5-7 YEARS can be termed casual, more like the fickle whales are casual to my thinking. But I prob misinterpreted 😉 otherwise I heartily agree w yr post Quil and it explains why us smaller fish don’t have much pull with the new owners 😢
I bought the Earth effigy and evolved my dragon - breeding it with my ghostly Fire to see what I get!

I just get duplicates from the Chests in the Market so I gave up. I agree with everyone above - if you’re only missing one or two decos, go for the chest in the market. I got the last two tendrils I needed that way.
