Well I think this event may have cured my need for all dragons. I had already changed to getting new ones at my own pace, but I am not sure I even want some of the new ones.
Golden hybrids should have been released as normal release dragons in between events. Ghostly dragons should have been new dragons that we have never seen. Event currency and dragons should not be dependent upon gambling.
I normally try not to complain about the designs of dragons because of the creators, but these rehashed ghostly dragons just scream LAZY. Fire, Earth, Lava and Obsidian??? If you had to use old dragons there are other spooky dragons that would have made way more sense...Ghost, Bone, Spectre, Spirit or Zombie to name a few.
I just shake my head most days at this game. They are totally missing the mark at what type of gameplay most players want and what most would spend real money on.
Here! Here! Especially “Event currency and Dragons should not be dependent on gambling.”
I bought the Earth effigy and evolved my dragon - breeding it with my ghostly Fire to see what I get!
Do we know if it's even possible to breed Ghostly Fire and Ghostly Earth and get a Ghostly Lava/Obsidian?
Yes. I already have a Ghostly Lava and Obsidian by breeding the Earth and Fire ghostly dragons last night in my epic breeding cave. Got them on try one and two.
Breeding through the 15k attempts, still not been able to get a rift Chitin. One day left now, but I really wanted to use this time to try for a Chromacorn. I just figured the unicorn was so unlikely that I'd be better off trying for Chitin. Guess I was wrong, both are terrible!
Trying for a 2nd Chromacorn since this event started, using my Chromacorn & Mirage, both Level 20, in the Rift, I’ve bred 2 Rifted Chitins, a bunch of other Rares, but no Chromacorn...go figure 🤔
I’m not trying to hard on this event I think it is totally disgusting how all these games require you to use real money to achieve these goals. Greed is a bad thing.
Been out of the loop for a while, so just trying to make sure I understand how breeding works for the "new" Ghostly dragons at this point. Is this correct?
Ghostly Fire evolves from a basic Fire dragon with the Effigy of the Flame and 500 candies. Can only be cloned using Ghostly Fire+Ghostly Fire (any breeding spot).
Ghostly Earth evolves from a basic Earth dragon with the Effigy of the Ground and 500 candies. Can only be cloned using Ghostly Earth+Ghostly Earth (any breeding spot).
Ghostly Obsidian and Ghostly Lava can be breed with a Ghostly Fire+Ghostly Earth (any breeding spots).
Obsidian and Lava dragons cannot be evolved into Ghostly Obsidian and Ghostly Lava.
Earth Rift and Fire Rift dragons cannot be evolved into Ghostly Earth or Ghostly Fire.
What happens if you evolve a traited Lava dragon to a Ghostly Lava? Does it keep the trait?
I don’t think you can evolve a lava dragon. If you wanted a traited lava dragon you would have to breed a ghostly fire and ghostly earth in the rift, which is not possible because ghostly primary dragons evolve from normal primary dragons and getting a primary dragon into the rift is impossible
I'm afraid that this event will be my last one. Breeding for dragons and Co-op is one thing, but having to gamble to evolve dragon while losing them in progress? That's a bit too much. After 3 and a quarter years of playing, I'm finally ready to give up this game after this event is over. But on the bad side, I'll never see the rest of the riftified dragons.

Update on my experiment of using no gems or event currency for the decorations. I am at 17/30.
I am guessing we will get another golden hybrid limited today. Maybe Dark/Light? 🤔
Has anyone been able to breed Omen or Nightbloom rifts this time around? I got Spirit rift on day one or two and besides the new Spooky limiteds nothing else...
I sent an email to Backflip Support asking about evolving the dragons after the event ends and about the number of "new" dragons in this event and I'm not sure if the response made me feel better or worse about the event and Backflip in general.
We'll be able to evolve the dragons after the event ends, but it'll cost gems instead of candies. I kine of figure that would be the case, so I'm not to surprised. That being said, given the way the costs are going lately, I wonder how many gems it'll cost...
Backflip: "As long as you have the Effigy of the Flame or Effigy of the Ground you will be able to evolve Ghostly Fire and Ghostly Earth Dragons after the event has ended. Please note that this will cost Gems rather than Candy, but I do not have an exact cost at this time."
Then I asked about there being 9 new dragons so far for this event and that's the response that disappointed me in Backflip. The patch notes said there would be "three new hybrid dragons" for this event, but according to support, that only refers to the dragons that are released at the start of the event. The other dragons (Chimneypuff, Chitin, and the four Ghostly dragons) were deliberately left off the patch notes. So we don't actually have any way to guess how many more "new" dragons will be released as part of this event. For me, this really seems like they were trying to be deceitful and pressure players to spend gems/money to get candies because there is no way to know how much "new" stuff there will be as the event progresses. Up until now, I've been trying to think well of Backflip, but this admission has me wondering if it's time to stop giving the the benefit of the doubt...
Backflip: "The App Store description is referring to the Wrath, Porcelain, and Corrupticorn Dragons. The others were not available at the start of the event and not announcing them in the patch notes was intentional."

I believe the cost will be 100 gems to evolve a dragon. When the event started, there was an error in the popup when evolving, asking if you wanted to spend the 100 gems but showing candy on the button. It was fixed quickly. Of course this may change. We don't know how we're going to get missing decorations for evolving after the event, unless they're not needed if you go the gem route.
They almost always do limited dragons during an event, on average two. They've technically added 4 (ghost fire/earth and the two golden hybrids) and we may get a 5th hybrid. At least the hybrids can easily be bred, which is not always true of their limited. The two ghost dragons have to be purchased at a high cost, which isn't ideal. The Lava and Obsidian are not really meant to be purchased, but instead bred from the two basic ghosts.
The real issue is how Backflip is handling the gambling aspect of the event, with the massive gem cost for decorations to evolve dragons. To top it off, they're not even telling us the odds for each piece where as every other 'random' game is required to show us the odds of each attempt. They usually hide it in a few small and hard to see icon, but it's there for every other game I play now except DV. They should also be telling us the odds of every dragon breed when we put two dragons together.
We did not need an event that decimated our gem stashes immediately following the Aloha event that also ate heavily into our gems. I spent 1500 gems during Aloha speeding up breeds, and ended up not breeding a single event dragon. I had almost nothing left for this new event. If I had seen that the odds of getting an Aloha dragon cloned was .001 percent (we have no idea the percent), I would have just saved my gems.
My disappointment with the limited dragons isn't that they're there (I know that all events have had them), but that the patch notes were kind of misleading. To me, I read the patch notes to mean that the event would have three "new" dragons. When the event started that seemed to make sense. Then they added the Chimneypuff, so I thought perhaps they considered the evolved dragons not to be "new", but more like an overlay (like the Rifted dragons). Which meant there would be three "new" dragons (one per week seemed to make sense). Then they added the Ghostly dragons. So in reality, the patch notes should have said something like "at least 3 new dragons" or something like that indicate that there would be more than three. I don't fault them for wanting to introduce new stuff, but it just seems like they were deliberately out to mislead players early in the event in hopes of getting people to buy gems/candies.
And now...the Effigy of the Frost (5500 candies), plus the Ghostly Glacier and Ghostly Mountain Dragons...

For completionists, note there are timers on the ghostly’s, so they may be limited to the (currently) 12 days, which is around 7 days after the event, other than BeB.

Whoa. I just bought an epic egg of mystery and it was my missing second Chromacorn. That TOTALLY makes up for me not having the winning lottery ticket.
*sigh* I was feeling hopeful after you said this since this is all i've been breeding since chromacorn initially became available. ended up with a swallowtail and a nightmare dragon I may just suck it up and use a wish.

I guess we know what the exchange rate is. In the market, you can purchase 776,063,500 dragon cash for 50 gems. 1 gem equivalent to 15,521,270 DC, and 100 gems equivalent to 1,552,127,000 DC.

That's the combination I am using too with absolutely no luck whatsoever. I haven't even bred a single rifted chitin. I've pretty much given up hope of getting a second chromacorn in time to evolve it during this event. I've stopped spending candy and gems trying to get the flame of corruption I need. I mean why bother without a chromacorn to evolve.
I don't know if I'm going to buy the effigies. They do keep on coming though, now the effigy of frost. I guess all of them will turn up eventually. I certainly don't need another fire or earth dragon, ghostly or not, ditto for the rest of the primary dragons. And I certainly don't need more glacier, mountain, lava and obsidian dragons. I'm fairly certain it isn't going to stop there either. What to do with these low earning dragons? Poor things, they are going to be relegated to obscurity and by sheer necessity will be forced to spend their days in storage. I don't even like to do that to furniture, but it's particularly disturbing to do it to dragons. And they get all depressed spending their days in hibernation, no sunshine, no blue sky , no harvest moon or stars to gaze at, no tiptoeing through the tulips or rolling around in the grass...but what choice do I have if I decide to go the effigy route. Darn you BFS, have you no shame?
My free Day Chest gave me Orange Flame which I needed. Two Flames and one Porcelain to go.
Mine gave me a Dup but I did buy 2 Dragon Drops and on the 2nd Drop I hit a chest. Got a needed Blue Flame and 2 Dups. Need 2 more Flames & Tendrils & 3 more Porcelains...very slow progress. Dragon Drop is the only play to give even a small chance of hitting the chest. The Wheel is worthless...

Am I right in thinking you can evolve a Fire Dragon to Ghostly, but not evolve the Pedestal? For the Ghostly pedestals, you need to either buy them, or fluke breeding a ghostly fire, I guess through Ghostly Fire + Fire?

There is no option to evolve a pedestal. I have been breeding ghostly fire and ghostly earth and have gotten nothing but regular dragons.
