So, I'd been trying this event without spending gems or event currency 'til near the end, to see what I could achieve without squandering resources. It didn't help that I rarely ever even saw chests appear in the free plays of the minigames, and even then could not consistently win them. Whitbee gave me a grand total of two despite me hounding him daily, and his usual reaction was to flick his grubby old change in my direction instead. So, I had thirteen decorations total, of seven different types and colours, when playing without loading my gems and beans into the standard-issue Haz(ard)Bro SMG to fire directly into their ravenous vault.
I decided it'd irk me to come out of the event with nothing, so I went ahead and played with gems, and over 1000 gems later, after two days with gem drop on day and night cycles, I am now missing only the red tendril of wrath. I received so many duplicates while trying--plus, evidently my luck is more precious and tender and special than should even be allowed, as I managed to fit in the 1% chance of no chest appearing numerous times, so I'm done.
In other news, failed to breed anything I need in the Rift, as usual...still missing numerous rift versions of dragons that were reasonably possible to obtain during their original release...
In other other news, I didn't enjoy "evolving" (translation of euphemism: MURDERING) my extra earth and cold dragons in order to ooh and ah at their dead non corporeal selves. Poor blighters. The wish to achieve basic completion is no longer strong enough to supersede disinterest in unappealing ideas and designs. Won't be buying the third effigy.
In summary, this was a truly vampiric event, but I'd rather They were normal vampires that sucked blood instead of fun and currency.
It also doesn't help that the red tendril is the rare one. They purposely made it that way. I got all the pieces except one within 250 gems, the rare pink flame. Here's me thinking this isn't so bad but took another 500 gems to get that 1 piece. From the rare pieces, to the games themselves and even the fact 855 candy only gets you 1 chest and not 3, everything is pretty much rigged to make you spend more gems...

Are certain pieces really more rare than others? From looking at posts here, the Wiki, and on Reddit, it seems like different pieces eluded different people. I got many red tendrils, even 2 in one chest, but it took me ages to get the green one (and it finally came from the Day 20 chest, not the Drop). If the red tendril was universally rare, it's plausible that I'd get maybe 2-3 of them over days and days of buying chests in the Drop ... but I got at least 6-8 of them (and very possibly more than that). Red was one of my mid-range repeaters, on par with the blue one. That doesn't seem all that rare. I got far fewer yellow and orange tendrils, and still only the one green tendril.

Yep, it was actually confirmed by Backflip though people emailing them asking.
At this point with 90+% certainty, I can say purple porcelain, red tendril, pink flame (daytime), and purple flame (nighttime) are the rare pieces. This is after seeing literally 100s of results on here, reddit, facebook groups etc... not just my own. You just got lucky with red tendril. It was my last tendril by a long shot where as purple porcelain I have 7 of yet a lot of people have spent 1000s of gems and have not got one yet. Just how the RNG works. Now can there be "secondary rare pieces" or pieces that are very common, I don't know. There is a chance there's a more complicated formula to determine the rare piece for an individual but this all certainty can't be coincidence.

It's also not clear if purchasing a chest with candy had the opposite rarities from the games, or if the purchased chest just used your missing pieces as a more common selection. Either way, played the games til I was missing a few of the rarest ones, and got those with chest purchases. How Backflip gets away without displaying the odds, I have no idea. Every other game has to show the odds today. If they keep up with these terrible events and gambling schemes, it might be time to start a write in campaign to Apple complaining about the odds not being shown in DV. I've noticed a couple things on my game today and wondered if anyone else is seeing the same thing. Game reset time for me is about 4 1/2 hours from time of this post. I gave gifts yesterday and my social menu shows I have all my gifts to give again. I write these down as I do them - so I know don't know why I have them to give again. I also have visions to watch again. I also believe when I first looked at the News yesterday there was no countdown timer, so I assumed that doubles was for only 1 day. This morning there is a countdown timer with 1 day, 4 hours 25 minutes remaining.n I only look at the News once each day so it could have changed later in the day yesterday. My countdown timers for the colosseum, greenhouse and Ts'aishen are all correct for reset today. I gave gifts again and watched 1 vision but got no additional candies.

I didn't have my gifts reset but I did get the Daily Reward and collected an extra gem by watching a vision. Was also able to collect 2 chests from Ts'aishen. The doubles timer kicked in yesterday at some point. This was likely caused by Daylight Savings Time in USA.

I agree. But I wonder if they get away with it because to be considered gambling there must be payment (there is not payment to play DV) and what you purchase with money is not a game of chance as it is with things like pokemon cards or other trading cards or loot boxes/blind boxes as you find for purchase in some games. You purchase with real money a particular item that contains exactly the same thing for every purchase no chance involved. Of course people do purchase with real money gems and other in game currency and that they use to gamble, spending on things like chests and speed breeding which are all based on chance. But perhaps the degree of separation between spending real money and then gambling away the purchased in game currency is enough to remove the gambling label. Also players can earn in game currency through play and are not required to make real money purchases. Although I have read that when considering what is gambling, payment is not always necessarily money, but something of value, which in game currency certainly is.
Regardless of how it's labeled, I would like to know the odds because it seems to me that the odds change. Something will go from reasonably possible to forget about it on a whim. That to me is shady. It's purposeful and it's assessing desire as well as time constraints and adjusting the odds to match. Maybe it's me but that doesn't seem fair. The odds to breed a particular dragon or get a particular item should remain constant or at least changes should be subject to notification so you can make an informed decision about how much you are willing to gamble. But of course something like that is hard to prove and I might just be a tad paranoid cause who knows the heart of the RNG god.
Well, I decided I'd buy just one more chest from the market, and it was, shockingly, precisely the lone red tendril I was missing, so I think I just experienced the locally renowned Power of the Whine. Then I sold off all my hordes of duplicates and stared at the new excess beans and wondered what to do with them besides buying the third effigy, in whose general direction I thumb my nose, hahaha. Its mother was a hamster and its father smelt of elderberries.
Anyway, they still have the Om of Noms and the Christmas event to redeem themselves after a year of gambling and dirty methods...here's to hoping they turn the tides, and dial back their ruthless whaling, however unlikely that is.
The Daily Reward reset and I was able to collect an extra gem by watching a vision and collect 2 more chests from Ts'aishen. But my gifts did not reset, so no double gifts for my friends. Sorry guys. I wonder if I will get another daily reward and etc. when normal reset time rolls around.
Checked my timer like ukwildcats4ever mentioned and all seems on track.

I noticed that the games swapped again, and played enough dragon drop to get the pieces I "needed". I decided that if I ended up using my whole gem stash, that would be a certain sign to quit. It's super annoying that they are through gambling and some are so much rarer than others. For each time, I have many of 7 colors and one of each of 3 other colors. It will take a while to sell the extra 99 decorations!
Make that 100. Whitbee just showed up on the island as I finished counting the extras, and for the first time, he brought me a chest with a decoration. My orange porcelain line just got longer.
And now for my question:
Has anyone been able to breed a Corrupticorn? I tried to breed my Corrupticorn with my Chromacorn a few times but had no luck. I'm trying to decide if I buy a pedestal or keep breeding.
I can't believe I've wasted all my opportunities to breed stuff in the rift and instead spent this entire event trying for a 2nd chromacorn using mirage and chromacorn. It's just astounding. I didn't even change up mirage for another dragon. I don't know why I made that choice. Tunnel vision, stubbornness, stupidity, tenacity, denial, magical thinking, a mistaken believe that sooner or later my lucks gotta change, stupidity, faith in the power of positive thinking, superstition (like if I change something now I'll miss out on my opportunity), insanity (using the definition that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results), stupidity. Pick one. I'm voting stupidity.

I’m voting POTM 😈
but, nah, Utterly Rifted Club Rulez heh heh heh 😈😈😈
The most annoying thing about this awful event: the way BFS ran two or three spooky visitors together so that they looked like Whitbee - so frustrating!

I have saved 41835 candies, have acquired all 30 pieces needed, only have 1 Chromo after trying the entire game to create another.
I've managed to breed all the event limiteds.
I have 1 of the effigies and none of the new ghostly dragons.
What would you do at this point?
Any advice is appreciated.
Hi tanyon7 ; I guess it depends whether you are a completionist or not first, esp with regard to the horde of ghostly’s, so do you buy the other eff’s so that in time you can gather all the ghostly’s, or do you happily just decide not to gather them at this point (they’ll come round again, have to, for new folk beginning the game); then whether you have patience to wait for BeB or use a wish or use candy to buy your second chromo; and whether you want to invest in habitats (and store them if you have no room).
Personally, I have bought the additional habitats and stored them til I use my next wish for the next island; I have bought one eff (frost, cos, you know, team icyT); I don’t like and have no room for ghostly dragons, so am not trying for them, (but will accumulate eff’s over time in case I run out of breeding challenges); I have transformed one of each of the three, and KEPT the flames etc just in case they’re needed in the future; I bought the second chromo and have bred three more in the Rift since; then used all my candy on the peds of the transformed draggies. But that’s just moi.
hopefully this all helps the decision making process 😄

Thanks for the reply. I was leaning toward buying another Chromo and trying to get the ghostlies later. Maybe purchase the effies too.
I've yet to figure out exactly how to evolve the three dragons though, been trying too hard to actually acquire the pieces first. Now that I have them, what is the next step, assuming I purchase the Chromo? I still have 3 wishes as well.

Have all appropriate required effies in advance.
Example: how to convert Love to Wrath.
Tap on the Love dragon you wish to evolve. Bottom row of pop up window has an “EVOLVE!” Button next to the food button. Click on Evolve. A new pop up window will ask you to choose a dragon. If you agree, click on it, and your Love dragon has now been replaced with Wrath. Done.
Same goes for Bone to Porcelain, Chromo to Corrupt, Fire to Ghostly Fire, etc.
