I've decided to try the special circumstances to get Aubergine. So, I have a Berry at Level 18, but how does it get rift traits?
You have to breed for it in the Rift, and then hope it gets a rift trait.
Regular Berry is no good.
Ah, I see. I'm a very long time player but never much cared for the Rift. I pop over there to gather stuff but I haven't done much with it. It's my form of protest and why I'll never see a full Dragonarium again.
Hi Has anyone been able to breed Sprout in the Rift?
Bred 2 in the rift with Nectar and Arid, both level 15. Got them on successive days before I'd passed the 1000E breeds, so fairly easy for once. Koalas!

Does anyone know if Aubergine is rift-only? The fact that only a rifted Berry can be evolved to it suggests it is, but all the other rift-only dragons have specific rift traits, and they didn't require the Berry to be any particular trait.

Mine is living in my main park living in a Hidden habitat. The rifted Berry I moved to a Seasonal habitat in my main park before I evolved it and the resulting Aubergine also has a rift trait. As for breeding, I cloned it in the co-op with neighbor's Aubergine for my second, but it's still incubating so don't know if it will have a rift trait yet. If it does, I'll try breeding them together in the rift just to experiment.

I think you got lucky, as I've tried similar combos for days going through the 10k breeds. Tried this one today, and still having bad luck. Did get a sprout without a rift trait, so I know I'm on the right path at least.

Thanks for replying. I was using Lagoon and Arid but I'll try your combo tomorrow.
Can we buy the new dragons in the event market? Or is that the cost on top of the evolution requirements like the Halloween event.
You have a choice. You can buy the new dragons in the event market for the amount of spice shown or you can click on page one for directions on how to evolve these dragons, which costs less spice.
I've read many replies to this thread and it's honestly frustrating to see so many comments complaining about the game.
Folks, this is not an instant gratification game. This is a game that you play for years. If you don't get a dragon this year, there's always next year. Plus at Christmas they always have a bring 'em back event so you can try to breed anything you missed.
I've been playing this game for years now and I've missed getting several of this year's new dragons. That doesn't bother me, though. Missing a dragon is simply a challenge for me to get it next time.
So please, enjoy this game for what it is, a long term game. If you really want instant gratification then this is not the game for you, but that is not a reason to complain about it.

While I appreciate your optimism, I think that many on this board have also played for years and understand the long game aspect. But there is no doubt these recent events have been different from ones in the past, and frustrating for many of us. It took me years to finally get my dragonarium to breathe fire, even if it was for a short time! And I’ve played the events and have felt okay with maybe not getting all the dragons.
But this event has me down, as it’s not even possible for me to even attempt to get breed or evolve a dragon, cause I don’t have the monument and don’t have a wish ready to go. And I don’t spend real money on games.
I’m all for the long game, been doing it for a while now. But DragonVale has changed with these events, and it’s been more about trying to jump through almost impossible hoops just to have a chance to breed or get a dragon. (After countless tries, I wasn’t even able to breed a chromacorn, let alone evolve it!) And we really don’t know if all these recent event dragons will be available in the bring em back event, either. Overall, maybe you’re right in the sense that this new DragonVale may not be the game for us anymore.

Aaaand the third option, @amidala19a and snoopy (both your posts make great points, btw) is to just play what you can atm or choose to atm; eg me, no ghostlies atm, DONT like em and no storage/display that I choose to make avail by selling dragons I like; and choosing to slowly work on these second bunch of evolvings... but def shrinking the bloat beast, yeeuucchh... not a dragon I’ll be displaying 😏 I think the DV event changes may continue for a while, and I’m still happy with a ridealong participation while observing with interest what happens.

Keep in mind that everyone plays the game differently. If the current direction and not getting everything is good for you, that's awesome! Some of us have different goals. Personally, mine is to collect everything. I was there until twins came out, then after lots of hard work I was soooo close. Then rifts came out, and after months I was close again. Yes, DV really was an instant gratification game if you'd been playing since the start. When they expanded the rifts to everything, I was still excited and felt I had an achievable goal within a year or so.
Now with each new recent event, I'm falling farther behind. My resources I needed to achieve my first goal are dwindling at a rapid rate, going towards just trying to get a new dragon that I fail to find.
Dragonvale was the kind of game you could play this way until recently, collecting everything, and it's why I play DV over the hundreds of other similar options out there. Most of them require the massive paywalls to get everything, and DV did not. It's what kept me playing. If I can't achieve that goal would I stick with it? Probably not, but we'll find out as DV continues to head in this new direction. Maybe seven years of history and habit forming checking my park will keep me here longer.

Hear hear! I mean, talking about ads, never underestimate the advertising potential of long-time players. If we say it stinks, it will.
Ok. So I am now officially the luckiest person in the world. Corrupticorn from mystery egg. No lie. I can’t even type right now. I seriously wish I could post a picture WHY WONT IT LET ME?!?
also I’m getting my first wish tomorrow
Be careful what you waste that wish on. You have to have Imgur as your host, then you can post pictures.

Hello there, long time lurker and long time Dragonvale player here.
While yes, I do agree this is a long term game, the last year or so of events has made this game more and more frustrating. I'm not sure how long you've been playing or if you're the type to buy gems, event currency, etc., but it's become blatantly obvious that Backflip (Hasbro) has a specific set of goals in mind. They have actively been making it harder and harder to obtain all the event dragons, many of which you can't breed. They're forcing players to drain their Dragoncash and gems at a rapid rate, and are making things that use the currencies, be it event, DC, or gems, disgustingly overpriced. In example: the limited dragons on a few previous events being upwards of 15,000 event currency.
Events are near constant, and range from 'Obvious cash grab that frustrates players by forcing the loot box system onto them while draining them of resources' to 'Making it nearly impossible to get the dragons as well as making it increasingly difficult to hit the currency cap'. The complaints aren't about it being a "long term" game or missing dragons, many of the players here have been here for years. It's about the obvious greed Backflip (Hasbro) is succumbing to that's distorting the game we have loved and played for years.
Honestly, they have every right to complain too, because it's just getting worse and worse as time goes on. The only way to stop this sort of thing is to make it apparent to Backflip (Hasbro) that we are not okay with these changes and will leave if these issues aren't remedied soon. Players are dropping like flies at this point, almost the whole of the community is upset by the direction the game is going, and there probably aren't enough whales to support the game once the majority of the player base has been pushed away.

Hasbro owns Backflip? Now everything makes sense! Including the Troll coming on in a failed attempt to defend recent changes. DV isn’t picking up new players like other games. It depends on the old players who have put years into this game. This isn’t about one or two people complaining, there are numerous forums full of players across the Internet upset (and quitting).

Maybe @ciwichris can explain???
What’s imgur?
A picture posting/hosting mechanism/site (me not techy, not speak techlang). Google it. Check out Encyclopaedia Dracontine for how to links. Most times it seems to work for folk, sometimes not so much 😈

While it’s fine to vent frustration with game direction here, please remember a couple of things: BFS staff DONT make the game rules/changes/directions and should not be called out here for fulfilling their employment requirements- the Aloha spirit which underpins this forum extends to every person; BFS staffers may very well be working hard behind the scenes to moderate the degree of changes- some of those folk may have been involved with this game since the beginning of its development and love it as much as we do and find these changes hard to stomach; and finally it’s a good lesson about corporate greed, happy to kill the golden goose, and there are patently enough whales playing to compensate for the minnows who leave, or major changes would occur.
