Basically, one is forced to spend resources or purchase gems. There aren’t enough ways to collect berries. This event will be the end to my vale. It’s no longer enjoyable.
I’m ok with spending resources - not much point in going without & hoarding them. When they’re gone I’ll have to miss out on stuff. I’m absolutely determined I will never spend real money on useless pixels again... but I still love the game and have invested too much real money & time to walk away completely.

Based on noodles' results and mine, I'm inclined to say that black cocoa mugs, blue tuplets, and purple stockings are among the more "rare" items to get from the chest. I'm also missing the red Poinsettia (have all of the other colors). I've only gotten one gumdop and two arc lamps, so all of those seem rare.

Red Poinsettia was the last colour version I got, so yes agreed 😊

Actually thanks for that reality check; I had fallen into the habit of keeping ‘a cushion’ a spare wish, spare gems, E, etc etc you’re so right:: what for, other than to use in the game 😂 thankyou noodles , I shall use my gems to buy additional magic tap games (ONLY looking to tap the now fast falling chest) and keep using the free turns on dragon drop, which nets me a goodly amount of berries 🐨🐨🐨 everyone, don’t forget this event runs for WEEKS

I've found that I'm collecting more currency than I could in the Om of Noms event, by quite a bit. My alt account couldn't get more then a few hundred spices in Om of Noms, playing it only once per day and not having a large rift. I made close to 1k last night on that account in one sitting, spending 0 gems. I just bred in the rift to fill donations, not even having half the dragons they required and just breeding the basic elements to get them, and I stop around the 2k breeding point. Add in games, visions, extra breeds outside the rift, and the new colosseum and I'll end with a good amount each day. At least enough to buy several of the dragons on the alt, and I never get them all there.
200 gems got me 64 unique decorations. I depleted my gem collection during the Halloween and Aloha events to under 100 (from over 1500), but have been saving every gem since that time from visions and friends and have built it back up quite a bit. I'm guessing that 200 more gems will get me closer to about 80 decorations (and about 10000 berries if I do the rest on doubles days and sell duplicates), which is 7 more chests from the store. The last 13 decorations will be 19k more over 38 days left. Assuming 800 per day using donations, games, etc (and I think 1k is easily reached) that's 30k to 38k additional berries. Add in doubles days, and you'll be around 45k at least. But the decorations, and you'll be at 25k left. 10 dragons to evolve in the end, at 10k total (or 20k if you're like me, and want two of everything to make eggs). 5k left over for fun. This is just a very rough estimate, but when you looked at prior events the estimates always showed me WAY off from getting everything without spending cash.
I spent 1500 gems during Aloha (trying for limited rares) and Halloween (getting ghostly dragons sped up and using gems on games that usually missed the chest) and ended up failing both and getting nothing. That was terrible and frustrating and almost led me to quit! Here I'm spending a few hundred and getting something from it, most of the decorations. I don't mind that as much, and that's why we have gems in game - it's a currency to use at times. Do the colosseum (5 +2), market vision (1) and gem friends (up to 7) per day and you'll make roughly 600 gems over the course of this event, even if you're at 0 now. These are all gems made from not spending a dime, as I won't buy things from DV until they fix their 'removing visions from some people who purchase' policy.
If they took away the Magic Tap game, then all of this goes away and this is a terrible event, the worst ever.

Has anyone gotten berries from the Colosseum? I've only used it once since the event started and don't believe I got berries. Then reading quil's post above, the "new colosseum" is mentioned. What am I missing?
So... tell me I'm the only one whose arena can't filter dragons because the choice menu is so crowded as to be hidden behind its parts (and the screen border). Can't be moved or resized either.
Don't you think we AT LEAST deserve iceberries for pointing out where they're being mean?
My arena is also like this, can't see enough of the menu to be able to choose an opponent's dragon, so the arena is completely useless for this event.
Are the percentages given in the sandbox adhered to by BFS? Or are they changeable on their whim? I am trying to breed a lichen in the rift for a donation and the percentages are 49.2% I will get a lichen and 3.3% for frostflower & reindeer and 32.8% for evergreen. I have bred all the way to 2500 and all I get are 3.3% dragons with the occasional evergreen thrown in for show. Pretty annoying.
And whining works again. Very next try I get lichen. What a whiny baby I'm turning into. You know what they say about the squeaky wheel and grease. But all that complaining makes me want to bop myself over the head sometimes. I'm going to see if I can get through an event with a minimum of grumbling. And I've just used my quota with this post so giggles and rainbows going forward.

Sorry, I meant berries from the new friend co-op thing on the new event island. Take a friend and your dragon, and bring back berries after a few hours. I think it's the Amphitheater now, it's been called different things in each event.

The sandbox is a guess, based on all the possible outcomes and the parents. A rough formula is used for determining outcomes based on rarities of the dragons, and it's fairly accurate for standard and golden hybrids. The sandbox was put together by Drow, from this community. I'm sure he wishes he could make BFS adhere to his odds!
There's just no way to tell with rarer dragons what the odds will be, without massive amounts of data collected from players. Is the chromacorn dragon a 1 percent, a .1 percent, a .01 percent chance? Or even a .00001, no one knows. Sure feels like the last.
If one or both of your parents are Lichen, you're just having terrible luck if you've not gotten one in a few tries. Lichen isn't one of the goldens, so even just plant+water should get it quickly.
Is there any point in keeping all the flames etc., which I still have from the previous event, or is it safe to sell them?

If you keep them, you can still evolve the dragons for 100 gems. I just got a love twin rift from a mystery egg, and am tempted to spend 100 to get a free twin rift wrath. If you don't see a need for evolving anymore of those dragons, you can sell them. I'm crazy and collect everything.

More ‘Bugs’, more emails to support. This Event has really been bad...
Also, the game crashes, not simply goes ‘Wonky’, but outright crashes when you scroll through the Hibernation Cave. Email sent for this one...
Then, I sent this to BFS:
This is my 3rd email regarding bugs in the release of Winter Saga.
Filtering for Dragons in Arctic Amphitheater is impossible now because the Filtering selection panel(s) are obscured.
For quite some tIme now, new Event/updates have had numerous problems on the initial release but this Winter Saga Event is easily the worst. When you combine that with all of the most disliked features of the most recent Events which have been put into this one: the Collection of Decorations (and with so many duplicates), the ‘Bingo Card’, the Evolution of Dragons, the Wheel of Chance and the continual, relentless depletion of players Gems to acquire new Dragons, it is pushing us players, many of whom have been with DV since the beginning, to the point of giving it all up. You need to greatly improve your QC and seriously rethink DV’s direction or you are likely to lose a bunch of us.

Yes, I realize that. I was annoyed. However I really do wish that BFS could be more transparent with it's odds on a lot of stuff, starting with breeding. But that's BFS. I in no way meant to complain about Drow and his sandbox which I greatly appreciate and use all the time. Sorry if it sounded like that.

I’m sure BFS can and does ‘tweak’ the odds, up or down at their pleasure. On perhaps a half dozen occasions, I have bred a new, Limited Dragon with low odds on the very 1st breeding attempt and then have not been able to breed another one for the Ped before the limitation expired. This is not a coincidence.

I did manage to evolve two of the dragons in the last event, but as you can't use the same 'thingy' twice, I am still missing the final 'thingies' to evolve one of my Chromacorns. I've kept one of each 'thingy' that I DO have, and will be so cross with myself if I find that the sold off duplicates are needed in the future.
Scoring chests in the current 'catchem if you can' game may be fine for young folk with quick reflexes, but for us septuagenarians with slower reflexes, it's extremely frustrating!

Duplicates are not needed. If you have 2 black flames, you can sell one and just keep one. As long as you have 1 of each 10 colors of flames, you can evolve a chromacorn as often as you like for 100 gems.
For the Magic Tap game, I have a couple recommendations. I tried playing on my daughter's old ipad, a very slow device, and everything dropped at half speed. Maybe you have an old device around that can be used to play that specific game and find similar results. Another option is to see if you have a family member who has faster reflexes. I have to play for my wife in the tap game, she just misses too often. I'll do the same for my dad when he visits in a couple weeks, and my kids certainly can catch 'em all if needed.

Just checked and realise that the only one I'd managed to gather ten of was the one required for the Porcelain dragon. I then bred more in the coop. So I'm missing the others.
Now I think I've devised a strategy for the current dive/swoop game. I look carefully at the whole deluge, but ignore everything except the chest. I look through squinty eyes, and manage to dive and catch that dratted chest 99 percent of the time.
I also didn't realise that you could go back any time and pay 5 gems to keep trying. Now I do have a growing collection of the latest 'thingies'! But I bet there'll be those elusive ones that make you keep playing and collecting a growing heap of green tuplets.
I don’t know if my app has a glitch, or if BFS has changed the collection of items needed to purchase things from the events store. With the Winter Saga when I click on a habitat to collect I’m not getting any Iceberries like I have in all previous events. I’m only getting Iceberries when I play an event game, out when breeding and hatching dragons.
Also, the Arctic Amphitheater is too big to see both filters. The friend side goes off the screen and I can’t see it at all,
Just want to know if these are problems I need to report.

Gathering from habitats won’t get you iceberries. Check the first page of this thread or the help menu on the winter saga island for more on gathering iceberries.
