Is it just my fakebook paranoia, or has fb begun a pushback against this new ingame friending? It seems my fb-only friends (haven’t cross checked that) have slipped from the list, and there is a banner ‘missing friends, login’ (with fb) athe top of the page. I was being blasé about putting everyone onto the ingame mechanism, but maybe I need to do that....
update; yep, I had ‘lost amaranthia and indigo, for eg, and when I ingame fr they returned.... working on the rest 😥
mmm which if all I have is a fb name, is not so easy mia are the following from my gifting list and cant see you on the OP list sofie d Jen b

i wonder if the system can’t manage friends from 3 sources? Ie GC, fb and dv fr ?

I have some issues regarding friends too. Normally I can regift in the first tab(gifts). But there are several friends from which I see new acquired gifted gems, but they are greyed out so I can't gift right back. When I switch to the second tab(friends), I can gift to them. But it is always work to find them among all the other friends. I used to think that it would be a problem caused by people having several parks and logging in and out of facebook. But with the new in-game friending that should not matter anymore, shouldn't it?

I only have GC, and I haven’t had any issues yet, so this may be a FB/DV problem. I can see how the DV friending system might become overwhelmed and error if you friend players via FB then later with the DV ID. I’m not sure if that’s what you’ve done though.
Since your game is having a hard time keeping your friends list intact, and if you want to lean away from FB and use DV’s Friend IDs, it would probably be best to unfriend your DV friends from FB first, so your game will stop recognising the FB friendship and only use the DV ID. Regarding deleting your FB account, if your game is saved to GC or Google, you can safely delete it, but it’d still be ideal to unfriend the DV friends first.
So sorry to hear you’re having these aggravating issues. I hope it’s resolved very soon.

This is not a new issue, at least not for me. I have two Game Center friends that I have this problem with and it's been this way for quite a while now. Don't know why. It's annoying because I trade gems and treats with them every day. And it's even more annoying now because I have around 50 new friends through the in-game system, so it takes longer to scroll through to find them.

I believe if you unfriend someone on FB, you will unfriend them on DV, since your game is connected to it. I’ve never used FB so I don’t know their friending mechanics, but if this is true, here’s how to unfriend on FB: m.facebook.com/help/172936839431357
You can deactivate your FB account, or you can full on delete it. If you deactivate, FB will still retain all your data (which kinda defeats the purpose if you’re leaving due to privacy data breeches every single month and perpetual mass surveillance on users). Here’s an article that explains the process of deactivating an account and deleting an account in the step-by-step format you requested: mashable.com/article/how-delete-facebook/. Also, you may want to triple-check to be very sure your DV game is connected to GC and not relying on FB.
Enormous congratulations on dumping Facebook!! I could not be happier for you. It truly is a thing of beauty.
Edit: I just pulled up this NYT article that I’d recently saved. It also gives step-by-step instructions on quashing FB. Thanks for all that. Was only ever linked to fb by a totally fake account, and only when GC disappeared, so no grief at all to dump it.
Will try all that tomorrow; still in shock here at the mass shootings, so games seem a bit trivial tonight.
I have been watching this tragedy unfold with all the latest updates. It will take forever to come back from this. Devastating.

I still haven't figured out what went wrong. There's a lot of stuff happening at the same time.
I'll post my findings here in the hope that the collective can figure something out. (Don't worry about the missed gifts by the way.)
You mentioned a banner "missing friends, login". Could it be that you logged out from facebook in the game? (If you're logged out from facebook in the game, you can not connect to any of your facebook friends via the game. It might have still showed me in the gifts menu because you had received an uncollected gift from me, but you could not return because you yourself were not connected to facebook, hence the game couldn't find me for you anymore.)
Also, as CesspitX mentioned, when users have multiple parks you can only gift to the park they were last logged in on.
I wanted to try out the mechanisms of the ingame friending before I started adding "real friends". So I started a baby park, which somehow connected to my facebook account automatically. If you "repay" gifts in the gifts tab of the social menu, I might have been greyed out at the moments when I was in the baby park. I didn't spend a lot of time in it, so the explanation about being logged out seems more likely.
At some point after that you unfriended me on facebook and added me as a friend via my idnumber that you got via Crumble.
I had not yet added you via the ingame friending. So that probably explains why you still could not gift to me.
(The message stating that we were already friends might have meant to say "you already have sent this person a friend request"?)
Also, I want to add a question: did I already show up in your friend list at the time when we were unfriended on facebook, but you had already sent me the ingame request, but I had not added you yet? (Jeez, this is complicated. Applause for anyone that can follow this train of thought.)
(Or maybe someone else can check: when you have sent a friend request, but the other person has not added you back yet, do they already show in your friend list and are you able to visit their parks?)
Sofie If you have sent a friend request to someone, but they have not added you back, you cannot see them, nor visit their park. Your request just lives out in the ether waiting to be matched with a request from the other side.

Probably ALL of those are reasons (stuffs all the incomprehensible-cos-my-brain-is-in-fog in a big bag, and labels it ‘fixed for Sofie an me’). And Jen b has also appeared 😊

A note on repaying gem gifts: I often find myself, especially in my baby park, having gem gifts to give left over for various reasons and would rather randomly distribute them than let them go to waste. I really do not expect these to be returned - now that I have so many new co-op friends I am literally randomly picking names and wouldn’t remember who I gave them to. I am emphatically for less stress in life - let’s not stress about gifts in games... I don’t want to feel like the gift I am bestowing on someone has strings attached. If I give a gift to someone who is full up on gem friends, Enjoy It!
Unfortunately I’m coop only. I have dedicated forum friends for about 5 years now. I can barely keep up with the gems given already. I do love coop friends though.
