So I don't know about the rest of you, but I find I have zero incentive to spend any money now..
In the past, when you could routinely come up just a little bit short on an event, I would spend $10 no problem to finish out an event.
Now, I feel freed of the shackles of completion!! I know I am not going to spend $100 to earn currency, so I have embraced my lack of completeness!
Are there people now spending gobs of money on events that are more impossible? Or do you think most are like me.. content to spend zero dollars now since through a small amount at it gets us bumpkiss?
Aaand because giving bfs/hasbro RL$ is met by them removing all your free daily gems from the market and Tolzar for at least the next 6 weeks.... no incentive at all for those of us who are not completionists 😈
I managed to breed Rigel in the Rift using Andromedan + Bizurian. It took a whole bunch of tries and etherium from its release until late last evening, but it finally came.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Do you happen to remember what the traits were for the dragons and rift?

It's true, in the older past events you could finish them out with a 5-10 dollar purchase, and you'd often not even need that. I would buy or breed every dragon (usually two) and then sometimes need that extra push to finish up the decorations and get seconds of a final dragon or two. Or I'd spend 5 dollars at the start of an event and get that extra early push to get way ahead, even though it wasn't needed.
Now 5 dollars gets you 1500 eggs on a doubles day. That's roughly 10 percent of a single dragon, you'd need 50 dollars to get an entire one! And then doing that purchase, while getting you 1500 eggs, will remove the opportunity for 100s of free gems from visions. And we're not given enough currency to buy all the dragons, that changed over a year ago.
That's not even the only thing with crazy costs in the game. 10 dollars gets you 9000 Etherium. Now as a long standing player with an active rift, I'm making roughly 11,000 Etherium every 2-3 hours. For 10 dollars I can save myself 2 hours? That's insane. If I could buy 1+ million Etherium for 10 dollars, I might consider it on rare occasions. They're off by a factor of 100 if they want to sell this to me.
I've already spent nearly 1 million Etherium trying to breed their new Rigel dragon. I said I was afraid this would become the rarest dragon in the game, and I still stand by that comment. It's looking like I will not get it after breeding up to, and through, the 20k breeds every day. The rarity of this thing will change when they release it to the eggs of mystery and daily login. But that also means that if I get one, either breeding or from an egg later, I'll need to take the 'egg' version of it first. That at least ensures me that the next round, 100 days later, of the daily login gifts will give me a dragon too to complete my dragon/egg collection. Take the dragon first and you may never see the non twin egg...
I have managed to breed a Rigel using Sorarian with water trait and Procyon with dark trait. The rift was aligned to Earth that day.
I have read on another forum about people changing their breeding dragons traits to cold and also changing the rift alignment to cold thinking that they are increasing their chances or limiting their fails by not introducing new 'elements' into the breed, or that BFS has made a mistake with the breeding hint.
I know that this has been covered before in some depth, but to recap - traits are decorative - as a general rule they are not required, nor do they have any bearing on the outcome of a breed.
Of course the exception to this is any dragon that requires a certain trait to be present in the breeding dragons - like the new Pearlescent Dragon.
I hope that I haven't confused and muddied the waters regarding rift breeding and that someone may find this helpful.
Thanks, I do agree that it's very interesting to hear the different theories about the game mechanics. That's one of the reasons I started collecting raw data yesterday, and will continue to do so. With 1000s of breeds on combinations with small numbers of outcomes, we can really nail down the percentages and if they change by adding a new element.
I have 3 alt accounts and can try for roughly 50 or so attempts per day. If more people can jump in with unused accounts, we can do a lot more with the tests and really get some valid numbers quickly. Starting off simple, and will change the combinations as we learn more. I'll be adding my next 50 tries to the list a little later today.
This is a terrific idea! Sadly, I don’t have my extra parks anymore. They were on an unused Android device, and when I became super busy over a year ago, I only had time for my main park, so I gave the alt accounts (the device) to other players who were providing results for the tests. I can start a new park and reach level 28 quickly to unlock the Rift, but building the Rift takes lots of frequent visits, especially in the start phase, so I won’t be able to expand it with much rapidity. Thus, I’ll be limited in the types of dragons I can provide results for and the number of breeds.
On a side note: I know you’re maintaining consistent dragon levels, but you may want to record the level of each park (or ensure they’re all the same), as there’s some thought that this too may impact breeding results. I’ll be following your new thread with great interest!

Thank you Arkynos for sharing the breeding hint for Pearlescent and also for hot-fixing the breeding hint when it was wrong - or changed by BFS when they realised it was an impossible combination.
I think I would have given up playing Dragonvale a long time ago if I hadn't found a forum where people were willing to share breeding hints, event information as well as other tricks and tips that they had discovered over the years.
I got an (unneeded) Glowwing in the rift with Starwing and Prism, but the breeding hint says it needs Starwing and any Chrysalis dragon. Is Prism a Chrysalis dragon now?
I do not understand why a Rainbow dragon is necessary to breed a Chrysalis dragon, or why the Easter and Star Fall events are concurrent, or why Prism is moonlighting as a Chrysalis. But one thing is for certain: DragonVale is not predictable. It’s like a hodgepodge of whatevers in blended potpourri madness.

I received the new quest The Wise Way and can confirm it is the correct quest for Gildamane.
dee, after I blue-hearted Gildamane for you in the co-op, I was given the above quest and sent Gilda on her way. I forgot that when a dragon is on a quest it can lose its blue heart status and there’s no way to re-blue-heart it. So when I bred with Trilobite in the co-op, Trilobite was automatically tagged with the blue heart, and I couldn’t change it back to Gildamane until she was done questing. Sorry for the breeding break, I hope it didn’t mess things up too much.

I have the same issues with spending any real $$ on this game too. Rigel costs 6500 gems... or about $130 (IIRC). You can get a few Etherium for another couple hundred dollars. This event, the rewards are so expensive in eggs and those are very expensive to get anywhere as well. If you got 10x as much for a purchase I might consider it, but if you are patient you can accumulate the same amount of 'things' for free.

I sometimes get the feeling that whoever is controlling the development of the game has never actually played it and has no clear idea of the "rules" historically embedded into the game, no sense of finding a balance between difficulty and reward in events, nor any clue about how to comfortably "grow" the game (i.e. adding meaningful infrastructure such as more and bigger rift habitats rather than just churning out increasing numbers of dragons).
The reason you're getting Glowwing from Starwing + Prism is that the actual rule for Glowing is Starwing + any chrysalis. The Starwing itself is lending the chrysalis element to the breeding combo, so it fulfills both requirements by itself. Check the dv sandbox, even Starwing + Fire can get you a Glowwing. This is probably a bug, but it you could also argue that its working as intended.
The game used to be so much fun, it was so layered. When Lichen first came out i thought the combo was so odd I Googled lichen and learned that lichen grows (slowly) in Antarctica. I learned something I hadn’t known and the combo seemed perfect. Now it feels like stuff is thrown together higgledy-piggledy just to push out content. It feels so rushed that I’ll bet the app is a not fun project for the staff anymore, which is sad.

I have to agree with this. I can remember when they had an open chat with players and posted pictures of themselves, with comments about the game, on FB. They all looked happy.
Last event prize is an omnitat that I can’t place. 😒
As usual, they've been throwing out new dragons and not testing the rest of the changes. I expect a hotfix sometime later today to allow us one more Omnitat.
Last event prize is an omnitat that I can’t place. 😒
It’s the Burcadian Monolith glitch revisited. The market shows the limit for the small Omnitat was raised to 6; however, the large Omnitat still has a limit of 5. So it looks like they tried to prevent this glitch from occurring again but forgot to raise the large Omnitat limit and got caught in the Burcadian Monolith snafu all over again. They’ll have it fixed soon.

Actually no, lol. I just picked two from my short list of rifted galaxies and bred them. I couldn't even tell you what the rift was aligned to that day either...paid no attention at all. I am a failure. lol
Edited to add: since I did not change the trait, I just looked up the pair I used...the Andromedan had air trait, Bizurian had light
