I have completed one tower. I have 3 available tickets for use. On the rest of the camps, I have green check marks for completed levels. When I try to click on the next level up (locked), it says I can’t because I need to score more points. How can I score more more points if all the rest of the levels remain locked? How do I score more points? I can’t play, even though I have tickets to use. Can somebody explain this? Thanks!
Click on the level below the locked level to earn more points. When you get enough points you can move up.
Do you have to redo the goals or just maximize points to unlock the next level
LynnMarie is so on it! After noting the blue bird on the splash screen, she spotted it on the event island. And made a great point...
Deca, where is the blue bird you teased from the splash screen, then continued to taunt us with on the event island?!
We would’ve dropped serious gems for that bird.
. I call this leaving money on the table. DECA has already created 2 tents, a telescope, camp fire and the wooden bird. Why not sell the items? I second the gem dropping. I would love to decorate an island in a Camp DragonVale theme. I also want the wooden bird.
It's possible that they could be waiting to release these decorations in the first limited tier of the game.
We share our physical lives with those in spirit. For life, like love, never dies. Love knows no limits, not even death.
Eggs! is a new minigame available in during this camping event. The basic idea is that you breed eggs together (not dragons!) to create new eggs, following the same basic breeding rules from normal Dragonvale caves. The rarer the dragon egg, the more 'points' or 'score' it is worth. Golden hybrids are worth more than normal hybrids, epics are worth more than hybrids, and twin versions of dragons are worth more than their non twin counterpart.
You're given 5 tickets to play, and tickets regenerate 1 ticket every 30 minutes for a total max of 5. That means you can play all 5 attempts every 2.5 hours if you're so inclined. Towers reset once a day, at game reset time.
There are goals to reach in each stage, and to clear the stage you must complete all the goals on the current attempt. Every time you breed two eggs together, the resulting egg is also given a level. That level is the sum of the levels of eggs you bred, and all eggs start at level 1 in each stage. Some of the goals are to reach a certain score on the board. Other goals can be to bank (save) an egg of a certain level and element. Even if you fail to meet your goals, your final score can still help you unlock the next level in the tower.
The game was not explained well by Deca, but then Deca's other games often deal with more hard core gamers who are used to figuring these things out on their own. This should be a learning experience for them that future games need more of a tutorial for many DV players, who can often be more of a casual gamer.
Lets walk through some of the game play:
The first step is to enter the new minigame area below. This will take you to a screen where you will see the various camp's to clear, the number of tokens you have, and the stages unlocked. The cost to unlock the next stage in each tower is listed at the bottom. Scores from games are cumulative to reach this score, so if you fail to unlock it on your first try then you'll be closer on the next.
Entering the first stage on Camp Meadow shows how many pinecones we'll receive for clearing the stage and then next we can see the goals required to clear the stage, along with the initial board setup.
As you can see here, we need one level 5 lightning egg and 7500 points to complete the stage. That ignite egg on the bottom row is worth 8,676 points alone, enough to complete the 7,500 requirement if we bank it. I'll hold onto it first to ensure I can get a level 5 lightning without it, but it will be a good idea to keep it if possible.
Lets now breed two eggs to see how it works. First I clicked the egg in the upper right, and then I clicked the egg next to it, to the right:
You can see the scores at the bottom, these two eggs are worth 701 and 751 points, and breeding them can get me an egg that's worth 358-27,508 points. Lets gamble, click the second egg again (dungeon) to complete the breed. I got lucky and got a Drifter worth 7,808 as you can see below. Now I need that level 5 lightning dragon. I'm choosing the path below so that I combine 5 eggs, ending on the lightning dragon. If the first 4 produce a lightning element, I'm guaranteed the 5th will since it's breeding with a plain lightning. If not, I may get unlucky and end up with a fire, dark, or earth combo too and fail to get the lightning. But I've still got 2 on the bottom that I can try again with. It's always best to land on something with lightning last, so you're not gambling losing the lighting element in earlier breeds.
I did end up with a loadstone, and banked that and two other dragons. You can see now that the stage is complete:
I now cleaned up the board, tried to get lucky with a few more rare breeds, and banked the best results. Try not to leave eggs stranded in their own row and column until the very end, you don't want to get stuck with a low scoring egg that can't breed up/down or left/right! My end result was 63489 points and enough to clear the stage and open the next, and it was a new high score for me! If you ever click and egg and it was a mistake, just click at the bottom and it will unselect it.
I ran through stage 2, which had only a goal of 20,000 points. That was easy enough with a few lucky breeds, bank those rare dragons! When I opened stage 3, the requirements were harder and I was unlucky on a couple of breeds. I managed to get a score high enough to unlock stage 4, but not complete 3 for the reward:
I can come back and play stage 3 or 4 later, I'll probably continue with 3 first just because the lower stages are generally easier. You can also feel free to try the other 2 towers and play stage 1 there, for an easier reward. Each tower has it's own progression.
I did complete all three towers yesterday, and I found you can just get unlucky on some of the harder stages. For example, I had a requirement for a level 5 cold dragon, among several other requirements. Sometimes when I started the board I would only have 1 single egg with a cold element. In that case, I would pick 4 dragons next it it and combine, and then join to the cold. I kept failing to get the cold element and thus couldn't complete the board. Other tries I would get 3 cold element eggs, and the odds of getting a level 5 cold was much higher.
This is a purely optional game, to give out a few extra bonus pinecones. Don't stress if you don't finish, and if you're just not a fan of the new game, you can completely skip it and earn pinecones through all the other usual ways. But I recommend just giving the first couple levels a shot in each tower, they're pretty easy and hopefully the above can help you get a hang of how to play. I always enjoy new changes to the game, and had a lot of fun running through the tower yesterday and coming up with strategies to complete the stage and earn enough to unlock the next.
If you collect and play your tickets every 2.5 hours, and check throughout the day (most of us can't, we're busy!), you'll get around 35 tickets. There are 3 towers, 5 stages each, so you'll get around 2 attempts per stage if you want to clear everything. The early stages only take 1 attempt usually, so you'll get 3 or so for later ones (or can miss a few tickets). Again, you don't really need to finish - it's just a nice bonus if you can.
Edit: Following up on some questions.
The breeding rules appear to follow standard breeding rules in caves with dragons, with the same odds. The direction of the breed does not matter except on where the egg lands. You always want a way to move the egg another step in case it doesn't end with the right elements or expected score!
Combining two of the same egg will give it an extra level. So far I've seen same + same = same even when doing rares, but haven't done it enough times to confirm. This may break the standard breeding rules if true, or perhaps I'm just getting lucky with double parent clones. More study is needed on my side, and I'll update as I learn more.
Thanks so much for all of this valuable work, Quil! So generous! What is the benefit of completing towers? Do you get extra pine cones for completing towers?
No. The Higher Stages are just worth more points. There is no bonus for doing all 5 Stages.
Do you have to redo the goals or just maximize points to unlock the next level
You can only collect from the goals once. So, maximising points is the way to go.
You may not be able to collect additional pine cones by completing the goals again, but each goal also provides a point bonus, which can be an alternative/additional strategy to help you maximise your point total to unlock the next level.

I’m of house Icy Torrent! I like ice-types in lots of things, winter (the cold) is my favourite season, and when playing Pokémon, I always choose the water-type starter!
Breeding Target: Ovalith. It's ALWAYS Ovalith! Hoarded gems as a safety net to ensure an Ovalith during BEB, but I'm not sure if I want to spend them: I think I want the thrill of breeding it! Gems wasted on speeding up Ovalith breeding/incubation: 2890
Thank you, Quil, for the enormous effort you have taken to provide an “easy” guide to the Eggy Hatchy minigame, however it has only served to reinforce my original opinion that it is too complicated for my ancient brain to even begin to understand. I don’t know how many pine cones I will forego ignoring this addition to the event, but I just don’t care. I would rather breed dragons than breed eggs, and as we aren’t able to breed the new dragons, even the ones that are supposed to be able to be bred, like Woven, ... well, I am rapidly losing interest in DragonVale, I’m sad to say. Still, I do appreciate your kindness in undertaking the task of explaining the minigame.
One thing I have noticed is the starting eggs are better the higher the level so if you need just points, go to the highest level you can and sometimes there are a few eggs that are pretty high in value that you can bank right away. The eggs you can get are usually better in the later rounds because of the multiple elements of the eggs.
Towers went without a hitch today except that one seemingly super easy level for 3 x level 4 water (I think?). All remaining eggs except one where water hybrids.
... almost the whole board was water dragons. And then. Platinum, cyclops (twin) + double rainbow. Lol. Failed by six water eggs merging into epics. Dumb luck is dangerous.

This egg matchy game seems like a whole lot of brain power for only 20 or so pine cones. Does the pine cone reward increase with the tower levels?
Also, kinda bummed there are no campy decorations to be had, like a tent or a campfire maybe. I’d really love to have that blue bird. 😉

We would’ve dropped serious gems for that bird.
Oh Yes! I am very observant 🤓😆, and I definitely want the decorations also!! Hopefully Deca will put some up in the market soon! 🐨
I’m getting better at the Eggy game, but I can’t seem to finish the 5th tier of any of the towers. I’m stuck on fourth in all three 🤨 I’m getting the required eggs, but not the points, or I’m getting an epic and the points, but then that messes up the water5 and I’m not getting the eggs. 🤪
one more thing.....
House of Iron Blossom here! 🌺 woot! Woot! I even have an old iron blossom t-shirt, from Amazon, from when we first chose our houses. ☺️
Great idea to have a poll and see how many of us are which house, just for curiosity’s sake. Hey Fletch_smf, is this possible, like after your holiday is over and you’re back at a computing device? 😀

Camp Mountain is definitely the easiest to climb, needing only 180,000 points to unlock Stage 5. Camp Plant is not too far behind, with slightly harder goals. Camp S'mores is the last one you should do, and you will certainly need to double up on eggs to complete Stage 5, needing 6 egg types banked to get the Pinecones.
We’ve left the Magic and Flowers far away and will be collecting PINECONES for our outdoor outing. So roll up your plaid flannel sleeves and start rounding-up those cones.
All this pinecone searching got you pining for an ice cream (pine)cone? Luckily, we brought the soft serve ice cream machine on this camping trip. Enjoy!
This video is from CJ’s Italian Ice and Custard located in Las Vegas, Nevada. Go check them out and don’t forget to bring your own cone (pinecone, silicone, traffic cone, or scone).
THIS IS MY POST! I live in Vegas I know *exactly* where CJ’s is!! I’ve never tried their pine flavored ice cream tho 😂 Thank God you remembered the soft serve ice cream machine for the camping trip. People *ALWAYS* forget that it drives me crazy lol! sCONE, traffic CONE, siliCONE - OMG! I’m gonna show this to CJ!!

Even though Hidden Bolt is my House, I will always stand with the House of Icy Torrent. I’ll never understand why Icy Torrent is so underrepresented by DV players, since it clearly has the finest people, e.g., Kiwichris !
Coldcoil blends in beautifully with all those Paradise habitats you stashed away last month.
Also, he poses exactly the same as in the splash screen. Extremely photogenic.

Being of the Mountain Sun house I’ll take Apex. He may not be shining and pretty but he looks strong, grounded, practical and rugged. I also like he can make himself look like a volcano 🌋
DECA has done well with the last dragons Woven, Pouke, Atramento, Apex and Coldcoil. example: These dragons do not have flat heads when they turn them such as Flickerflame. 🐉
It would be great if there was a way to see your high score. I was able to open level 4 of Camp Lakeside on my first attempt of level 1, but still couldn’t tell you my score.

My intuition tells me that there is a very good chance that we might need snowflake dragons for the winter event. Since I am missing one snowflake in each park, and more than one in each rift, I decided I needed to start working on them. However, since I am also missing some of the event dragons, I figured out which two snowflakes bred together could help towards completing my event goals as well. I am also missing a mono 5 in both rifts, which means I still can’t try to get a rifted plateau. So, I am doubling up goals on those breeding attempts as well. Hopefully, I will have completed both my mono and my snowflake collections by the end of the event while also getting the event dragons I want.
I love my vine dragon avatar created by ElektronX. Now, if only BFS would add it to the game...
