After getting kicked out of the game several times during the tutorial, the summoning circle is in my park. I understand the odds are not in anyone’s favor, and I probably will not be participating often, as I have most regular dragons. But it would be nice if the dragorium was changed to show dragon types, so I could find the odd dragon from the 600+ that I don’t have a regular, un rifted or non-twin. Then I would participate as another chance for that elusive dragon.
In your dragonarium select all (twice I think) and then click the sort button until you get to the amount owed. Make sure it is going from lowest to highest and it will show the dragons you don’t have at the top.
The voting section of dragon draw has a place where you can type the name of the dragon so you don’t have to scroll there either.
Unfortunately they have not added a feature for rifted or twin to the dragonarium, I track mine on a spreadsheet.
Can the awarded/won dragon be used as a pedistal? I have all the dragons, except the ever so elusive Ghostly Spirit. From my understanding, only regulars are given, no twins or rifts.
Also, can I save my shards, like bank them until I see a dragon I want to try for, or is it better to toss them in on a dragon every day?

Oh great! Another memory hogging, unnecessary feature. I couldn’t even finish the tutorial without it crashing… and based on the ridiculously low odds of even getting a Dragon, why bother (I have all the Dragons anyway). Sheesh 🙄

As well as lisgie's excellent sorting suggestion, you could put the dragons you still need on the wishlist. Then they would all be in the same place in the Dragonarium. Then as you achieve them the game will ask if you would like them removed from your wishlist - you don't need to remember to go back and remove them.
The collection of shards does not seem to be a daily thing. It seems to be a 24 hour (not sure, I didn’t really pay attention when I collected yesterday, might be 23) from when you collected. I can’t collect again for another 5 hours.
The long haul strategy failed miserably because they seem to have completely reset the game and there is no trace of the dragon I placed shards on which still had a 3 day time last night. The completed list does not say I contributed to any dragons. Since the shards were returned to adlerist in the social menu and not in the summoning circle there is no point to do the long haul strategy and her strategy is better.
When Dragon Draw was re-released, the notification from Deca said that everyone's shards would be reset when it was released to all. That way no player has an unfair advantage over those that have had to wait for Dragon Draw.
The few players that did receive a dragon can be considered part of the test team to make sure that there were no more bugs.

I have at least one of each dragon. Sorting by amount owned you still need to check each dragon, because the colored corners do not give enough distinction to the type of dragon owned. A grey corner with two could mean two regular or two rifted. A gold corner means you have a twin, but if the count is two or more, is the second a regular or a rifted or a second twin. Sorting this way is only useful if you are missing a dragon.
At last I can join the gang! Summoning circle in place - shards in my pocket - what next? Having all the dragons, but missing a few rifties and twins, are you telling me that I can't use Dragon Draw to help fill in those gaps? Many long term players will have all the dragons, so what is the point? I don't know which dragons my friends are missing, so I can't help them in any way. Am I seeing this all wrong? The best advice I can give is to click the number in the upper right corner. This is a shortcut to the find dragon page and shows the type of that dragon you have.
It has been asked for more sorting options in the dragonarium, but as far as I know it is a distant wish list item.
I’m off to update my spreadsheet on rifts and twins by looking through each entry in the dragonarium.

The won dragon is sent to your gifts menu. All other eggs given in the social menu still have to be hatched, so these probably do too and you will be able to get a pedestal. Only regulars, no twins or rift versions are possible at this stage - it has been requested though.
You can only hold 50 shards at any one time, but at the moment you should have 60 (all given from the tutorial) and at tomorrow's reset you will be given another 25. You won't be able to claim them unless your total is under 50. You can claim them incrementally during the day though. So, at the beginning of the day if you have 40 shards, you can claim 10 of the daily gift and have 15 still to claim. But you must claim these 15 before the next reset - they will not keep accumulating.
This is how I understand how the shards work.
The exception with holding more than 50 shards is if you have purchased some -they do not count as part of the 50 gift shards.

This is correct, and is the main reason I've ranted about this feature and Deca's approach to the game recently. Their focus has been for the newer players, not the long term player who has supported the game for years. There's SO much to do for new players it's overwhelming, I'm not sure why a new player would even want or need new content!

It definitely would have been better if we could choose twin or rift or twin rift if we have one already. That would have been beneficial to all players new and long term. I am trying my best to complete my twin pedestals (finally below 100), but it is really hard to do when odds are really low on some of them and there is event after event. I barely get time to work on older ones because I am going for new ones all the time and twin weekend hasn’t happened in a loooonnnngggg time.

I had long term goals of getting twins, rifts, etc. I was close. And then Backflip started the continuous event cycle a few years ago and I have not done as well as others on keeping up with new dragons. For example, this event I wasn't able to get rift versions of any dragon except one. Not from lack of trying, breeding 16+ times a day in the rift, just no luck. And I think I've only gotten 2-3 twins total of any of the dragons. I see friends who get rifts of everything and have to wonder what's broken in my park. But the cycle continues and I fall farther behind in my goals from event to event with each new dragon. Without additional catch up mechanisms added the game becomes more frustrating than fun. We need some number of the following things: more twin weekends, more BeB events, longer breaks from events, ability to wish for rift/twins, some way to convert dragons from twin/rift/normal. Dragon Draw just doesn't help in this regard at all.
I just watched a player: Dripzyy#1586 win 7 dragons in a row. Maybe they spend 1000 on shards, could be possible, but they didn't appear to be really special dragons or anything. We know some players have broken parks where they cheat, and get as many gems and such as they want buy ignoring the app store. Do we know if Deca is preventing these players from playing Dragon Draw, or are we competing against these players?

So this seems a bit...problematic. I trust they're watching for hacked accounts and such? Is Dripzyy#1586 really just spending hundreds of dollars to get the shards to completely dominate seven rounds in the last half hour?
I do NOT want to insinuate that Dripzyy is cheating. I do not know this player, and they clearly could have spent $1000. I know people in other games who spend that monthly. I just want to bring up a fear I have that cheaters may have access to this new feature, and we'll be competing against cheaters if they do. Seeing this happen tonight triggered the thought for me.

Dragon Draw is not made for long time players. It's for the newer players. That is always where the money is to be made.

The thing that bugs me (and it would bug me even more if I thought I could get anything useful out of Dragon Draw) is that I've played games in the past that have basically been destroyed because the devs squarely targeted the whales to the exclusion of all else [for those unfamiliar with the term, it's the people Quil mentions who routinely spend hundreds or thousands a month on games]. Dragonvale has never been a competitive game, but now they've introduced a mildly competitive element - alongside a direct means of pay-to-win. I support the devs finding ways to increase their revenue stream, but if you truly can essentially buy your way to victory against other players and they're encouraging this...well, it's a disturbing direction to take.

People really spend that much? Good Lord…I thought $50 a month was bad. 😮

[Edited to add: Ninja'ed by Quil because I was arguing with the software over the screen shots...]
It says, “ dripzyy won this dragon! You did not contribute Soul Shards to this draw.”
how do you win without betting your shards/buying your chances???
