So this seems a bit...problematic. I trust they're watching for hacked accounts and such? Is Dripzyy#1586 really just spending hundreds of dollars to get the shards to completely dominate seven rounds in the last half hour?
It says, “ dripzyy won this dragon! You did not contribute Soul Shards to this draw.”
how do you win without betting your shards/buying your chances???
You are misunderstanding the comment. Dripzyy won the dragon. You (LynnMarie ) did not contribute Soul Shards to this draw.
Aaaaaaahh, ok 😜

Oh great! Another memory hogging, unnecessary feature. I couldn’t even finish the tutorial without it crashing… and based on the ridiculously low odds of even getting a Dragon, why bother (I have all the Dragons anyway). Sheesh 🙄
Dragon Draw is not made for long time players. It's for the newer players. That is always where the money is to be made.
Interesting perspective. Most of the games I play make their money off the older long time players. You offer 'new' deals to new players in the hopes that they'll buy an intro package. Once a new player invests, they often stick with the game longer and are more likely to spend in the future as they feel they've put something into it. But the vast majority of the money comes from the end game 'whales' who have everything and spend to keep up with new content or get/keep an edge in games with PvP competitions. DV has always been different in that it's never had competition between players before this new feature, so its dynamics could be different. I just assumed it's the same and the biggest spenders are the oldest players.

I don't really feel like Dragon Draw is for the newer players, mainly because the players can't obtain certain dragons until they reach a certain level.
I remember when I first started playing and someone bred with one of my dragons in co-op, resulting in twin Lagoon dragons. I was sent the twin, but a message popped up saying that I couldn't place it in my park until I reached lv. 21. I was nowhere near that level and had to wait a long time before I could take that dragon out of my gifts and put it in my park.
Now I may be wrong about this, but couldn't that happen with new players who win in Dragon Draw? What if they're at a really low level and the dragon they win can't be placed in their park right away. They may end up with a bunch of dragons in their gifts until they reach a certain level.
We share our physical lives with those in spirit. For life, like love, never dies. Love knows no limits, not even death.

Yeah, I was speaking way too confidently there. I was referring to Grandpa Kenny's comment that he has all the dragons, and therefore this new introduction was not made for a player of his longevity. It's meant for newer players that don't have all the dragons, and aren't just waiting for each new event to add to the collection.
Though, as DragonMoonX pointed out, now for absolute new players who are still unlocking so much new content during normal play. My youngest daughter has heaps of dragons in her gift list that she can't access yet. But there's a pretty big pool of players that are in the middle, that have all the regular dragons available, and are trying to pick up on the limiteds that they haven't seen before, or missed last time.
IMHO, I think it’s more toward sophomore and junior players than the freshmen or seniors. The newer players aren’t vested enough with levels etc, and we seniors have all the dragons and might not pay to play. This might change if twin and Rifted dragons are introduced. But right now, it’s the middle range that are targeted. Those playing for a while now, who are really trying to achieve fire and those got em’ all goals by any means possible.
When I started playing, there were not that many dragons yet, I remember when century was released, events were only a few times a year. Slow and steady has gotten me all the dragons with, I can assure you, not even $25 spent over all the years. I would surely be overwhelmed by the shear number of dragons if I started all over again today. And I would surely pay/gamble for a chance at an easy win.
For me personally, Dragon Draw is not that interesting and will be just a pretty building. RL has me struggling to carve out daily Vale time as it is. I have too many other improvements to do around my vale, than to spend my precious time calculating and buying chances for dragons I already have.

Gaaaahhhh, I think I had the Summoning Circle in two of my games but I don't remember where I put it! Apparently I missed the first day of the soft launch because I didn't have time to check in here yesterday and didn't get a notice on my loading screens about it yesterday.
I missed the soft release too, but it seems like that was just a test and it’s more fun with more people playing.
This thread looks really great adlerist! I like how the posts from the first release are on it with a link to the posts for the rerelease.

Nah I think you totally got it right with this post and didn’t need to amend it. 😊 👍
This is a great point! It is true that newer players will spend more. I bought gems and event currency when I was starting out but by the time I got all the dragons I made a lot of dragon cash and saved up a lot of gems and didn’t need to buy anything. Now I only spend money if the runic caves are in an event. All my friends went through the same process too. I remember when the runic caves came back there were a lot of posts on the forum about how people are spending money for the first time in a year.
Some other games I play are the same way. Once you get all the content and can save or make enough currency you don’t need to spend money on the game. That’s why there are long time players. If you had to keep dumping money into a game, eventually you’re going to feel it’s ripping you off. Long time players have paid their way with their time and purchases so now they don’t have to as much anymore.

Players who still need to unlock dragons or aren’t at level 11 so they can’t play events are beginners to me. There aren’t too many of them b/c it’s really easy to level up from 1-30. New players to me usually means you’ve been playing for a year or you don’t have many or all of the dragons or something like that. I think most games pay attention to new players b/c they play a lot and spend money so they want to keep them. Beginners aren’t going to put money in b/c they’re not hook on the game yet. The game is usually really easy for beginners so they don’t get frustrated and leave.

I agree with you. I wrote my last post before reading yours so I repeated some of the things you said. 😁 Freshmen and Seniors don’t spend as much as Sophomores and Juniors.
I don’t have a use for Dragon Draw either but I agree with DragonMoonX that it is really interesting to see what dragons are being picked and won. It’s new and fun and I like that a lot. When they add the mystery egg I might use it then, but it’s still really cool to see all the players playing it!
I slept through the initial bugged release and am terminally late to every new thread, but I just spent some time scrolling through this thread and have a few thoughts / suggestions: - wow, these dragons go fast! The first one I tried, I didn't even get a failure message because it had cycled out of the recent dragons won. I think it's slowed down since then - would love the free shards on a 23h timer because I've already experienced collection creep thanks to the weekend - great analogy to sophomore/junior players - cool to see Deca try something new and it really is a gorgeous building - it would be great if the five shardable dragons had the little counter showing how many (if any) I have already - cheaters could skew this awfully I didn't have huge expectations for this - the last 'big' change I recall was the Rift and that sent me on a three-year hiatus, so I'd already decided that whatever this was, I wouldn't stress about it too much. I think it's a neat new feature and I hope it a) brings in enough revenue to make it worth the investment and b) inspires Deca to keep trying new things

Currently breeding for whatever twins I can possibly get my hands on
I have discovered that I don't spend enough time in DV right now to benefit from DD. I will find a dragon I don't have and then vote for it - but it is either at the bottom of the list or completely gone by the time I go back in to spend soul shards. :-) I do find it fascinating to watch the bars progress when I do spend a few minutes in there. Can't wait to see which might be added next to either DD or DV.

The dragons do cycle through very quickly. I think it will slow down once the 25 daily shard stops and we are given 5 daily shards.
It is fun though putting a few shards on several dragons in the hope of winning one.
Looks like it addresses crashes. Hopefully optimisation for iOS to alleviate some issues Dragon Draw brought on.

PSA: Response from Deca regarding concerns about hackers
I have refrained from responding to previous posts about hacking and Dragon Draw, as Deca said they would post a response. They were waiting until the winners from July received their dragons, before posting the above statement.
We did have a conversation with Deca three months ago, regarding hacking and Dragon Draw. It’s one thing if cheaters obtain dragons for their park, but it’s a whole new problem when cheaters are preventing other players from winning dragons through a lottery. Deca is aware they will need to be more vigilant with a feature like Dragon Draw.
One measure Deca did mention is their willingness to ban accounts. This is a different policy than Backflip. Backflip flagged accounts, took away twin privileges, and refused customer support. They rarely implemented a ban.
So while it may be tempting to cheat and obtain endless gems or currency — don’t do it. It will only drain all the fun out of the game, and you’ll be bored and disenchanted. There’s nothing more dull than a game with no challenges. Instead, find a game that does interest you and brings something to you every time you play it.

Deca has confirmed this update will address the issue of the DV app not loading after the last update. In addition, it should relieve some of the increased crashing from the previous update.

Has anyone else noticed the same person appears to win the dragon draw? The odds that the same person wins so often makes me curious on the criteria. Is it just who spends the most money?
Dragon Draw is a lottery. So the person who buys and puts the most Shards into the pool has a greater chance of winning. It will always benefit the players who spend a lot.
Last week, the FB and Discord reps reported a player who won numerous times at Dragon Draw. Deca looked into the account, and the player had made many legitimate purchases for Shards. Before Dragon Draw was released, Deca added extra measures to prevent hacking and posted a statement about it.
If anyone notices a player is hacking or cheating, please contact Deca and let them know so they can look into the account. Hackers don’t just cheat the game, they ruin the game for every player and add to the demise of DV. So it’s important that hackers are minimised and removed. Thank you so much for your help!
