DragonCash is the main currency for DragonVale. Since it’s relied upon for everything from treats to islands it can be difficult to obtain enough DC to fulfil your game objectives. As a result, players develop 'DC farms', islands filled with dragons that earn high amounts of DC.
If you don’t have enough DC to grow treats and level up your dragons or buy the habitats and islands you need, you may want to consider the lucrative career of a DC farmer.
WHAT IS DC FARMING?
DC farming is an old strategy used by players since 2012 to increase their DC production so they have a steady, reliable stream of income. Dragons that earn a lot of DC are bred over and over to fill habitats with a high DC capacity, thus creating a DC farm. The Panlong dragon, released in January 2012, was the first dragon to introduce this concept. With the ability to add multiple element boosts, Panlong produced the highest amount of DC in the game. Long-time players may still have many Panlong dragons from yesteryear.
The information provided in this DC Farming Guide is focused on questions and information that players have requested over the last 12 years. To prevent the guide from becoming even more lengthy, excessive data that has not been requested by players is not included. However, if you need more information, please let me know.
This guide will be kept up to date, so players can be sure they’re receiving the latest information. Please check the Updates section at the bottom of the thread for the most recent additions.
HISTORY OF THE DC EARNING RATE DISCREPANCY
The base DC rate (amount showing in-game on the dragon’s profile card) is lower than the actual DC rate (amount the dragon actually earns).
On its profile card, Tien at level 20 with four element boosts earns 2,182 DC/minute
But when timed, Tien at level 20 with four element boosts actually earns 3,000 DC/minute
This DC rate discrepancy was first discovered in 2015 by RickABQ, who had the remarkable insight to test the earning rate by timing how much DC a dragon accumulated in a minute. The Garland dragon was not the first dragon to have this disparity, but it was the first one reported because it is a high-earning dragon that could be boosted by four element boosts (120%), thereby significantly increasing its earning rate. This brought the discrepancy to light.
RickABQ’s testing showed 'plateaus' in earning rates. A dragon can plateau (reach its highest DC earning rate) at a level lower than 20. Therefore, it was not necessary to feed DC farming dragons to level 20 because they would earn the same amount at a lower level. Due to the enormous savings in treats, the topic was widely discussed in the DV communities, resulting in Backflip fixing the Garland dragon. It now earns the amount stated on its profile card. This gave the appearance that the exaggerated DC rate was a bug. However, Backflip continued to release high-earning dragons with the discrepancy, and these dragons were not fixed. After Deca Games took over DragonVale in 2020, they added many dragons that earned much more DC, changing the landscape of DC farms into a very profitable endeavour.
Initially, it was first assumed element boosts caused the inconsistent rates. But by 2017, RickABQ and several other players, myself included, had performed enough tests on epic dragons, like the Rainbow dragon, which does not benefit from element boosts, to disprove this theory. At this time, Bogberry was the highest earner with its three element boosts, and Portent was the best unboosted dragon.
In 2020, Tornor looked into the discrepancy further and determined that the DC rates are rounded up. If a dragon’s base rate earned 1,500 to 1,999, it was rounded to 2,000 for the actual rate; 2,000 to 2,999 was rounded to 3,000, etc. This seemed like a logical explanation, except over the years players have reported more and more dragons that did not follow the rounding rules.
Previously used rounded rates
• 900 to 999 is rounded to 1,000 • 1,000 to 1,199 => 1,200 • 1,200 to 1,499 => 1,500 • 1,500 to 1,999 => 2,000 • 2,000 to 2,999 => 3,000 • 3,000 to 5,999 => 6,000
In June 2024, Drow and clsForCoding discovered how the actual rates are determined and solved the DC farming mystery (please see the next section, How DC Rates are Calculated).

The new calculations result in a more generous DC rate than the previous rounded amounts. High-earning dragons earn more than the amount stated in-game on their profile card. At low dragon levels, the difference is extremely small, so the inconsistency isn't noticeable. But the more a dragon earns from its level and boosts, the more significant the disparity between the stated base rate and the actual rate.
0n 18 June 2024, Drow deciphered how the DC rates are calculated.
The income for a dragon, displayed on its profile card, is expressed as DC per minute. However, the game flips this around internally, and a dragon will actually earn 1 DC per some number of game cycles, where a game cycle is 1/100 of a second, or 6000 per minute. Because of this, the actual income (DC/minute) earned by a dragon will always be one of the following step values:
For example, a level 20 rainbow dragon states that it earns 775 DC/minute. This is equal to earning 1 DC in (6000 / 775) = 7.7419 cycles. But since the number of cycles must be an integer (there's no such thing as a fractional cycle), this rounds down to 1 DC in 7 cycles. 1 minute = 6000 cycles, 6000 / 7 = 857.1428, so the dragon actually earns 857 DC in 1 minute.
You can often determine a dragon's actual income by taking the income displayed on its profile card and finding the equal or next higher number from the list above.
However, once boosts become involved, the situation becomes rather more complicated. Because boost percentages are added together, then applied against the number of cycles per 1 DC, this number ends up being rounded down twice, possibly resulting in a higher-than-expected step-up in income. A dragon with a boosted display income of 1350 DC/min might actually earn 1500 DC/min or 2000 DC/min, and there's no simple way of knowing which is the case without knowing what its natural unboosted income is, what boosts are applied, and going through the math.
To simplify this situation, the Income section of the Dragonvale Sandbox provides a table of dragons and income by level, and controls to add various combinations of boosts, with all the math handled for you.
And several days later on 22 June 2024, clsForCoding came to the same determination with additional details.
TL;DR the rounding intervals on the Wiki are (essentially) right, but rounding is done both before AND after the boost calculation (i.e. take the dragon's base earning rate, round it up, then calculate boosts based on this, then round up again).
The exact rounding intervals are 6000/1, 6000/2, 6000/3, etc... which equal 6000, 3000, 2000, 1500, 1200, 1000, 857, 750, etc.
More detailed explanation:
I was looking into how the dragoncash rates were calculated, and the whole interval/rounding up thing seemed pretty strange to me, especially since it doesn't match with what is shown to the player. It almost seems like more of an error than an intentional feature.
I was also looking at the data used in the Dragonvale Compendium, where the value in the "Earn gold" column is what is used to calculate the gold/min of a dragon. As an example, plant dragons have a value of 350. To calculate the gold/min, do 6000 divided by that value, so 6000/350 = \~17 gold/min.
I also noticed another pattern involving 6000 in the round up intervals on the wiki: 6000/3 = 2000, 6000/4 = 1500, 6000/5 = 1200, etc.
So a simple explanation would be that this value that we are dividing 6000 by is always rounded down (or maybe, from a programming perspective it is stored as an integer, which causes the decimals to be dropped). This would make the result round up to the top of the interval.
Based on the Dragoncash calculator I found, it looks like the base earning rate is multiplied by (0.6L + 0.4) where L is the dragon's level. From there, and with some trial and error, I arrived at the formula:
earning rate = 6000/floor(floor(s / (0.6L + 0.4)) / b)
where s is the same "earn gold" as listed in the dragonvale compendium (so 350 for plant dragon), and b is the multiplier coming from boosts (so 1.3 for 1 boost, 1.6 for 2 boosts, etc.). Floor just means round down to the nearest integer. This formula is the exact same as starting with the dragon's base gold/min, and then rounding up both before and after the boosts are applied, so it may be easier to think of it that way.
My original guess was just 6000/floor(s / (0.6L + 0.4) / b), so only rounding at the very end of the calculation. But this didn't seem to line up with what other people here have observed. So, I guessed that they were also rounding before adding the boost, giving the actual formula I wrote above. This worked better, and matches with every (fairly confusing) result on this thread I have also tested on my own island and the rounding seems to work for smaller intervals as well, for example a dragon listed at 262/min actually makes around 272/min (equal to 6000/22).
Use the following table to find a dragon’s actual earning rate if no boosts are used. Since the disparity isn’t significant until the base amount is ~462 DC/minute, and most players use this information to determine how much they should level up a dragon for their DC farm, not for low-level dragons, I’ve started with 462 DC/minute.
(If boosts or generators are used, this table can be slightly off because boost percentages are added together, applied against the number of cycles per 1 DC, and rounded down twice, resulting in a higher income threshold. Please use the DV Sandbox’s Income page to calculate the actual rate with boosts and generators.)

*The only way to reach 3,000 DC/minute and receive the whopping amount of 6,000 DC is by using Weather Generators. And a lot of them! Guava discovered that Tien at level 20 with all four primary boosts plus 42 Leaves Generators will increase its DC rate to 3,016 DC/minute on its profile card. But Tien will actually earn a titanic 6,000 DC. All credit to Guava for uncovering the remarkable jump from 3,000 DC to 6,000 DC!
HOW HIGH SHOULD I LEVEL UP MY DC FARM DRAGONS?
If Tien is at level 15 with no boosts, it is earning 752 DC/minute on its profile card, but it is actually earning 857 DC/minute. At level 16, it is showing 800 DC (still earning 857 DC/minute), and at level 17 its card states 848 DC/minute (still 857 DC/minute). As a result, it is not necessary to increase Tien to level 16 or 17. At level 18, Tien passes the next threshold at 896 DC, so it is actually earning 1,000 DC/min. It’s unnecessary to level up Tien to 20 because it would still be earn 1,000 DC/minute. Therefore, levelling up Tien to 15 or 18 is most ideal if no boosts are used.
The Best Dragons for DC Farms section below outlines the top DC farming dragons and provides which levels they produce the most DC with or without boosts and weather generators.

An element boost placed on an island will increase the DC earning rate by 30% for all dragons that match the element of the boost. Multiple boosts can be placed on an island, dramatically escalating a dragon’s earning potential. There is a boost for each of the ten elements in the game.
Boosts do not have much value on an island with its primary habitats because these habitats have a low DC cap. To get the most out of boosts, players use them for DC farms or place them on islands with habitats that have high caps and dragons that match the boost element.
Air Dragon Boost Cold Dragon Boost
Dark Dragon Boost Earth Dragon Boost
Fire Dragon Boost Light Dragon Boost
Lightning Dragon Boost Metal Dragon Boost
Plant Dragon Boost Water Dragon Boost
To quickly calculate how much a dragon earns with boosts, simply use the DV Sandbox’s income page and select the boosts you are using to see how much a dragon will earn. Players can also multiply the following numbers with the dragon’s unboosted rate. You can find the unboosted rate on the dragon’s profile card, the dragon’s DV Wiki page, DV Sandbox, and the DV Compendium under Dragonarium > Sort > Gold/Min.
1 boost = unboosted rate x 1.30 2 boosts = unboosted rate x 1.60 3 boosts = unboosted rate x 1.90 4 boosts = unboosted rate x 2.20
Element boosts are frequently used in DC farms and will be considered when recommending dragons for DC farming in the next section.
WEATHER GENERATORS
Deca Games introduced Weather Generators in June 2023. Generators add a 2% boost for all the dragons on the island with the element the generator represents. The Weather Generators are permanently available in the Market under Buildings. They cost 120 gems each and provide an animation on the island they are placed on. Multiple generators and different types of generators can be placed on an island for an increased boost and more animation.
Currently, there are four primary element generators used for DV farming (the fifth Star Generator is for the Zodiac element and limited to one; therefore, it isn’t used for DC farms).
Leaves Generator - 2% boost for the air element
Rain Generator - 2% boost for water element
Snow Generator - 2% boost for cold element
Storm Generator - 2% boost for the lightning element
Generators are not always considered for DC farms because they cost gems, and the DC boost is relatively low. Players will need to purchase 15 generators for 1,800 gems to equal an element boost. However, generators are very valuable if they can push a dragon’s DC rate to the next threshold and earn significantly more DC.
To determine how much a dragon earns with a generator use the DV Sandbox’s income page and select the generators and the number of generators you are using to see how much a dragon will earn. If you prefer to do the calculations, multiply the following numbers with the dragon’s unboosted rate. You can find the unboosted rate on the dragon’s profile card, the dragon’s DV Wiki page, DV Sandbox, and the DV Compendium under the Dragonarium > Sort > Gold/Min.
1 generator = unboosted rate x 1.02 2 generators = unboosted rate x 1.04 3 generators = unboosted rate x 1.06 4 generators = unboosted rate x 1.08

There are quite a few dragons that earn a lot of DC. Deca Games has generously added many since they acquired DragonVale in 2020. Check the DV Sandbox for the income of the dragons or the DV Compendium. Since this information is readily available, I will not list all the dragons with high DC rates because that tends to make DC guides cumbersome and even longer. The vast majority of players just want to know the best dragons to use.
The top dragons for DC farming are those that
• produce a high amount of DC • can be boosted with element boosts • can reside in a habitat that has a high DC cap (so you don’t have to collect DC every 15 minutes) • the habitats do not have a limit or cost gems
For the purposes of DC farming, we will review the dragons that are the most productive for a DC farm and/or provide other benefits in the game. I will also keep the information direct to avoid unnecessary data since DC farming guides can be quite lengthy.
Currently, the top dragons for DC farming with or without boosts are Tien and Nacre. But Iden, Ocular, Yarr, Niamh, Quaa, Etch, and rainbow dragons provide a lot of potential, as explained in the following posts.

Availability: Tien is the 10th anniversary dragon. It is released in on 14 September for DV’s anniversary.
If you do not have Tien, you can clone it in the co-op at any time. No need to wait until September. I have a park with a level 20 Tien permanently available in the co-op. Please add the park TIEN#5745 and post on the Cooperative Request thread indicating that you’ve sent the park a friend request. I will add you back. Similar to Reddit, Discord, Facebook, and all other social media sites, players will need to create an account to post on the Forum. Just tap the 'Register' at the top right of the page, under the banner image. It only takes a minute. For more detailed information, please see the Forum Help board. Welcome aboard!
During Tien’s release, you’ll receive both cloning (2%) and breeding (2.5%) odds for a total of 4.5% when cloning Tien at the co-op. This is the best way to acquire Tien. Just add the TIEN#5745 park and clone with a dragon that doesn’t add extra elements.
Notes
• If you’re planning on Tien and Nacre DC farms, they share the light element, so all four boosts cannot be used in both farms. • Since the air and light elements were added to the Chrysalis Habitat during the spring 2024 event, Tien can be placed in the Chrysalis Habitats. But there is a limit of 7 Chrysalis Habitats, and they cost gems, so it is not included with the habitats above. If you are interested in using them the Large Chrysalis Habitats is 7x7, holds 6 dragons, has a DC capacity of 1.5 million, and costs 75 gems (but can be purchased for event currency during the spring event); the Giant Chrysalis Habitat is 8x8, holds 7 dragons, has a DC capacity of 2 million, and costs 150 gems (can also be purchased for event currency during the spring event). • PRO TIP: When the Colosseum requires the air, earth, light, or metal element be sure to use a level 20 Tien to receive the maximum amount of DC!

If you’re interested in upgrading Ts’aishen before the next century or earning more Abundant Essence to use his collection feature, Yarr is your answer! Receive double the amount of Abundant Essence from Treasure habitat collection and earn maximum DC from the habitats, as Yarr is the best Treasure DC earner.
Breeding hint: LOOT + PLATINUM
Breeding percentages
• breeding hint = 3.75% • single-clone (with one Yarr) in co-op = 1.5% • single-clone in Vale and Rift = 5% • double-clone (with two Yarrs) in co-op = 15% • double-clone in Vale and Rift = 30%
Habitat: Treasure
• DC capacity: 1,000,000 DC (regular); 2,000,000 DC (large) • Dragon capacity: 3 (regular); 4 (large) • Price per habitat: 5,000,000 DC (regular); 175,000,000 DC (large) • Build time: 6 hours (regular); 12 hours (large) • Size: 6x6 (regular); 7x7 (large) • Habitat capacity on standard island: 14 regular Treasure Habitats; 10 large Treasure Habitats • Habitat capacity on gargantuan island: 36 regular Treasure Habitats; 25 large Treasure Habitats • PRO TIP: For a list of habitats and how long it takes for the habitats to reach DC capacity based on Yarr’s level and boosts, please see the DV Sandbox’s Recommended Habitats (instructions are on this post).
Treasure Habitat (giant) is not outlined above because it costs 150 gems, so it’s not frequently used for farming. But the habitat can be purchased for event current during the paradise event.
If you do not have Yarr, you can clone it in the co-op at any time. No need to wait until the paradise event. I have a park with a level 20 Yarr permanently available in the co-op. Please add the park YARR#2438 and post on the Cooperative Request thread indicating that you’ve sent the park a friend request.
Notes
• The main reason players have Yarr farms is to earn more Abundant Essence. It’s extremely difficult to level up Ts’aishen because players acquire minimal amounts of Abundant Essence every day. As a result, it can take 6-8 years to reach Ts’aishen’s maximum level of 25. Treasure Habitats earn 20 Abundant Essence from habitat collecting, while all other habitats earn 10 AE. This could reduce Ts’aishen’s upgrade time by a couple of years.

With the addition of the earth and light elements to the Monolith Habitats, the Niamh dragon found its way into DC farms.
Breeding hint: MEADOW + earth + air
Breeding percentages
• breeding hint = 1.5% • single-clone (with one Niamh) in co-op = 1% • single-clone in Vale and Rift = 5% • double-clone (with two Niamhs) in co-op = 15% • double-clone in Vale and Rift = 30%
Habitat: Monolith
• DC capacity: 1,250,000 DC (regular); 1,750,000 DC (large) • Dragon capacity: 4 (regular); 5 (large) • Price per habitat: 1,250,000 DC (regular); 3,000,000 (large) • Build time: 2 hours (regular); 6 hours (large) • Size: 6x6 (regular); 7x7 (large) • Habitat capacity on standard island: 14 regular Monolith Habitats; 10 large Monolith Habitats • Habitat capacity on gargantuan island: 36 regular Monolith Habitats; 25 large Monolith Habitats • PRO TIP: Use Guava’s Monolith Habitat Layout for the optimal use of the regular and large Monolith Habitats on the gargantuan and standard islands. • PRO TIP: For a list of habitats and how long it takes for the habitats to reach DC capacity based on Niahm’s level and boosts, please see the DV Sandbox’s Recommended Habitats (instructions are on this post).
There is no permanent Niamh park since there is little demand with few players creating Niamh farms. But if you need Niamh, please post your request on the Cooperative Request thread, and a member can help you. To join the DV Community Forum, please see the instructions on the Forum Help board, which includes other information, including how to post.
Notes
• Niamh pairs best with Nacre, since they only share the light element, so a maximum of three boosts can be on each farm island. • Niamh shares three elements with Tien, so they are not a complementary pairing. • Since the air element was added to the Chrysalis Habitat during the spring 2024 event, Niamh can be placed in the Chrysalis Habitats. But there is a limit of 7 Chrysalis Habitats and they cost gems, so it is not included with the habitats above. • PRO TIP: When the Colosseum requires the plant element be sure to use a level 20 Niamh to receive the maximum amount of DC!

After the earth element was added to the Monolith Habitats, the Quaa dragon strutted into DC farms with all the confidence of an April Fool’s Day chicken.
Breeding hint: WOODVINE + KROKI

Notes
• Quaa pairs perfectly with Nacre, as they share no elements, so all four boosts can be placed on each farm island. • Quaa shares two elements with Tien. • Since the air element was added to the Chrysalis Habitat during the spring 2024 event, Quaa can be placed in the Chrysalis Habitats. But there is a limit of 7 Chrysalis Habitats and they cost gems, so it is not included in the habitats above. • PRO TIP: When the Colosseum requires the fire element, be sure to use a level 20 Quaa to receive the maximum amount of DC!

Etch is the perfect dragon for new players to start a DC farm. This is a permanent hybrid dragon that is easy to breed, and Etch earns more DC than any other permanent hybrid. With the addition of the plant element to the Monolith Habitats in spring 2024, the Etch dragon is ready for those new DC farms.
Breeding hint: dark element + plant element
Breeding percentages
• breeding hint = 5% • single-clone (with one Etch) in co-op = 10% • single-clone in Vale and Rift = 1% • double-clone (with two Etches) in co-op = 20% • double-clone in Vale and Rift = 30%
Habitat: Monolith
• DC capacity: 1,250,000 DC (regular); 1,750,000 DC (large) • Dragon capacity: 4 (regular); 5 (large) • Price per habitat: 1,250,000 DC (regular); 3,000,000 (large) • Build time: 2 hours (regular); 6 hours (large) • Size: 6x6 (regular); 7x7 (large) • Habitat capacity on standard island: 14 regular Monolith Habitats; 10 large Monolith Habitats • Habitat capacity on gargantuan island: 36 regular Monolith Habitats; 25 large Monolith Habitats • PRO TIP: Use Guava’s Monolith Habitat Layout for the optimal use of the regular and large Monolith Habitats on the gargantuan and standard islands. • PRO TIP: For a list of habitats and how long it takes for the habitats to reach DC capacity based on Etch’s level and boosts, please see the DV Sandbox’s Recommended Habitats (instructions are on this post).
• Etch is available at park level 25. • The perfect dragon for new DC farms — and so cute!

As you play DragonVale, you’ll notice rainbow dragons (Rainbow, Leap Year, Aurora, Party, etc) are frequent (and long) breeding fails. As a result, many DV players have Rainbow farms using the large rainbow Habitat. If you have a lot of habitat slots open, you can use the regular Rainbow habitat, which has a small footprint and a 1,000,000 DC cap.
Since only two rainbow dragons can fit in a large Rainbow Habitat, and only one can reside in the regular Rainbow Habitat, rainbow dragons are not as ideal as the other DC dragons. But they do earn a respectable amount of DC, and what else are you going to do with all those rainbow breeding fails?
TRIPLE LEAP YEAR
Triple Leap Year and Corrupticorn are the top rainbow DC earners. Since Corrupticorn is an evolution dragon and Rift-exclusive, it’s not nearly as available as the Triple Leap Year dragon.
Breeding hint: any four elements
Breeding percentages
• breeding hint = 3% (if you don’t own it); 1% (if you own it) • single-clone (with one Triple Leap Year) in co-op = 1% • single-clone in Vale and Rift = 5% • double-clone (with two Triple Leap Years) in co-op = 5% • double-clone in Vale and Rift = 30%
Habitat: Rainbow (large)
• DC capacity: 1,500,000 DC • Dragon capacity: 2 • Price per habitat: 10,000,000 • Build time: 6 hours • Size: 6x6 • Habitat capacity on standard island: 14 large Rainbow Habitats • Habitat capacity on gargantuan island: 36 large Rainbow Habitats • PRO TIP: For a list of habitats and how long it takes for the habitats to reach DC capacity based on Triple Leap Year’s level and boosts, please see the DV Sandbox’s Recommended Habitats (instructions are on this post).
Element Boosts: none
Weather Generator: none
Maximum Dragon Levels for DC
• Level 16 Triple Leap Year (1,000 DC/min) • Level 19 Triple Leap Year (1,200 DC/min)
Availability: Released for Leap Day and once a year during Dragon’s Week.
There is no permanent Triple Leap Year park since there is little demand with few players creating Triple Leap Year farms. However, there is a permanent Rainbow farm (RAINBOW#9358) to help players win the most event currency from the event island challenges. If you need Triple Leap Year or if you’d like to add the Rainbow park, please post your request on the Cooperative Request thread. Similar to Reddit, Discord, Facebook, and all other social media sites, players will need to create an account to post on the Forum. Just tap the 'Register' at the top right of the page, under the banner image. It only takes a minute. For more detailed information, please see the Forum Help board. Welcome aboard!
Notes
• Rainbow dragons do not have boosts, so they can be freely placed anywhere! • Rainbow dragons do not earn as much as the other DC farming dragons, but most rainbow dragons are easy to accidentally breed with their anything-goes (any four elements) breeding combo, so many players have a rainbow DC farm.

RECOMMENDED HABITATS / HOW LONG IT TAKES FOR A HABITAT TO REACH DC CAPACITY
The remarkable Drow has added habitat information to the DV Sandbox, allowing players to select the best farming habitats to fit their DV login schedule.
in the big table of incomes, click on the income of a dragon and level you're interested in... Tien at level 18 looks fun.
this temporarily swaps out the income table for a list of recommended habitats which you might use for DC farming this dragon. these are sorted in order of time to fill – the habitat's DC capacity divided by its dragon capacity and the DC income of the selected dragon.
you can still change which boosts are in effect, and change the selected dragon's level. to return to the income table, uncheck the checkbox next to the dragon's name at the top of the page.
questions or comments welcome, as ever. happy DC farming!

In 2018, I created two DC farms, 84 Bogberrys on the Gargantuan Island and 144 Portents on the Overgrown Island. Within 3-4 months, the farms reaped enough DC, so it was no longer a struggle to afford islands or to level dragons to 20. I was soon financially free, and I stopped collecting DC (except to earn event currency) because I had more than I needed, even if multiple new islands were introduced with their exorbitant prices.
It may seem like a daunting and time-consuming task to create a DC farm. But it really isn’t, because when you breed two of the same dragon, the breeding percentage is greatly increased. It took approximately 3-4 months to breed 84 Bogberrys and 6-7 months to breed 144 Portents. All breeding was done in the Vale at the Epic and Enchanted locations. If you are a new player trying to obtain many of the limited dragons in the event market, you likely won’t have any locations available to breed DC farming dragons. And if your goal is to own all the dragons, DC farming isn’t something that can really be achieved until you’ve completed most of your collections. Start with a small farm on a standard island and breed the DC farm dragon when you can (don't forget to put those Rainbow fails to good DC use). Once you have all the returning limited dragons for each event, you’ll have open breeding locations to produce your farming dragons.
New top DC earners occasionally arise in the game. Does this mean you should replace your Bogberry farm with an Iden farm, or your Iden farm with a Tien farm? No, not necessarily. Players will sometimes refer to older DC dragons as 'not viable', yet they still earn a lot of DC. Their rates have not changed, so they remain just as viable. Unless you’re logging into the game more frequently and finding that your farm habitats are not at their DC capacity, there is little reason to upgrade to a higher-earning dragon. I kept my 2018 Bogberry and Portent farms all through the Iden/Ocular craze from 2020-2024. There was no need to replace them with higher earners because they still made more DC than I could ever spend.
But the inclusion of Tien and Nacre into the Monolith and Snowflake Habitats, and my new personal goal of obtaining a trillion in DC, was significant enough to hibernate Bogberry and Portent and switch to Tien and Nacre farms. In addition, as an endgamer, the Epic Breeding Island and Enchanted Breeding Cave were frequently empty during events, so creating more DC farms was appealing.
I currently have a Yarr DC farm to level up Ts’aishen, and a Nacre and Tien farm (in progress), all on gargantuan-sized islands. The Yarr farm has the water boost, Nacre farm has cold, dark, and light boosts, and the Tien farm has air, earth, and metal boosts. So, the three farms work extremely well with each other. Select the dragons that best fit your needs or that you like. Despite what some players may tell you, there is no better or worse DC dragon or farm, only those that meet your needs and bring you DC.
Much luck and wealth to all the DC farmers!
My Portent farm, circa 2018

Endless thanks to RickABQ, tornorr, drow, clsForCoding, Nova, guava, ScholarPitiful8530, and all the players who tested and investigated the earning rates, provided DC farming guides, and asked questions. Many thanks to hetchy for requesting the addition of the cold element to the Snowflake Habitat, and to the Forum’s admins, moderators, and CalliAlli for requesting the addition of the earth and plant element to the Monolith Habitats. We are all standing on the shoulders of previous players, and without everybody’s contributions, we would not have this information and these DC farms today.
