I noticed that later in the day, after I posted here. In the Parent Finder, if the target dragon’s primary elements match the Rift primary or Rift exclusive’s primary elements, those Rift dragons will show in the Vale results. Omen contributes plant, cold, lightning, and metal. So, Plant Rift, Cold Rift, Lightning Rift, Metal Rift, Spore, and Zaffer are all appearing in the Vale’s breeding combos.
am i misremembering that you can move a plant rift dragon to the Vale, and it breeds as just a plant dragon there?
(edit) no, you can definitely do that. so those combinations are, strictly, correct.
Yes, that’s true, the Rift primaries can be used in breeding combos in the Vale, but they did not show in the previous version of the sandbox for the Vale breeding / cloning results.
I thought the reason why they didn’t appear was to avoid any misleading info and to prevent the Rift dragons from occupying all the top breeding combo recommendations.
A Rift primary can only be levelled to 20. It can never be an elder. The elders have a breeding bonus, and it’s much less expensive to level a Vale primary to elder, than to level a Rift primary to 20. As a result, no-one ever uses Rift primaries in the Vale to clone or breed. So to have them listed as the top recommended cloning and breeding pairs isn’t really helpful for players. And it kind of suggests there’s an advantage to using a Rift primary over a Vale primary or elder, especially when the Vale primaries are no longer showing.
The results for Rainbow demonstrate this
The vast majority of the combos have Rift dragons. Many newer players won’t have Rift exclusives, and it’s pricey for them to level up Rift primaries. The Vale primaries have been pushed down and are no longer showing. So the Vale results look really odd, because they’re filled with Rift dragons.
Also, one thing I noticed, Rainbow has a hiccup. It only shows the breeding results. In the image above, the cloning pairs should be listed since 'if I don’t have one to breed with' isn’t selected, but the breeding pairs are showing.
If you want to keep the Rift dragons in the results for the Vale, can I suggest a toggle switch so players can remove the Rift dragons from the results?
Sorry, I don’t mean to create more work for you. Just putting in my observations and how I think players will see the results. Hopefully, it’ll be helpful. Cheers!

I do have a question about primary dragons outside the rift. The sandbox shows Plant Rift + Fire Rift in the rift having a chance for Plant / Fire Rift dragon results. That makes sense, as they have cloning chances in the rift and I see it all the time when breeding with them. But the sandbox has also shown Plant + Fire, normal dragons, in the Vale with Plant and Fire dragon results. The primary dragons have no cloning chances, and I don't recall ever seeing them as result, unless it's a primary with an opposite hybrid or two of the same primary elements with no other elements added. Am I remembering how it works correctly?
instinctively, i agree with you.
now i'm curious whether the old sandbox was doing that correctly or not.
since i don't see anything in the old code which would've enforced it.

hmmm....
Quil, yes, that’s correct, primaries can’t be an offspring unless it’s two of the same (Fire + Fire), or if the breeding combo has opposites (Fire + Blue Fire). Air is an exception because it can be bred.
drow, the old sandbox used to list primaries as outcomes outside of the primary breeding rules, but it’s been corrected in the new version. 😊

i'd be surprised if it were anything that deliberate.

solid idea, let's try that. probably checked by default.
(edit) and done. getting to be a lot of checkboxes, here. yup. lotta checkboxes.

Oh my, the toggle dream has come true — and it’s on forever by default!
Move over Taco Tuesday, from now on it’s Toggle Tuesday!
Thank you soooo much, Drow!! ✨❤️✨

Drow, you really are incredible! I loved your v1 sandbox, I can’t imagine how wonderful the new one must be now!
I believe you can experience the new sandbox now on the original site. It seems the new version pretty much replaced the old one the other day.
Drow works so fast, I feel like I’m moving in slow motion.

it did! i didn't want to add all the new event dragons to both, so...
the crossword game is back now, too!
Racing over to the sandbox to play some hearty crossword puzzles…
Thank you! 💞

I saw a discussion on FB asking if the sandbox removed time of day hints from breeds. Not sure if they were ever there, but the example was finding parents for Midnight. It'll show the combos possible, but not mention the time has to be set to 'Night'. Maybe it was never there in the previous version, but thought I'd mention it!

Thanks so much drow for adding the checkbox to remove the rift dragons from the vale results! I noticed all the rift dragons last week and was going to mention it here but adlerist already posted about it, and you already fixed it! but I still wanted to say thanks for adding the great checkbox and thanks adlerist for bringing it up and suggesting the toggle. It makes a big difference in the vale results! I love the sandbox and did a couple crossword puzzles yesterday! 😁
I also want to mention that I like the “galactic” background! Matches with the forum’s. 😄 Thank you!
I love the new background too! It’s the Star Fall theme from the Twilight Tower. In the past, I used the Twilight Tower themes as backgrounds for the Forum, but I haven’t done that in a while. Maybe if I do, and Drow continues to use them, we will have a true match!
I admit, I really miss seeing the little visitors wandering around in the sandbox background. But I understand it’d look really odd if they were aimlessly roaming in space.

ladyj, I’m so pleased there’s a space visitor! (drow snuck her in!) 😄
In other news, I just received the easiest crossword puzzle from the sandbox.
Really appreciate the low effort I had to put in for this one. 😁

drow, some of the Game Reps reported their players noticed a change with the way Quests are displayed in the sandbox after the update. I admit, out of habit, I’ve always used wiki to find the correct quest. Since I have all the dragons, I just scroll through their alphabetical list. Although now that I’m looking at it, I think it’d be faster to use the sandbox, since wiki takes a bit to load and scrolls slower. Anyhow, I digress.
Since I’m not familiar with how the sandbox listed quests in the past, I’ll just quote what they wrote.
no longer counts hidden elements, only the elements shown on the quest. for example, you used to be able to select all of the primary elements and it'd list every dragon that has all of them, and now it lists none.
it had the hidden elements for years, but they were always shown separate to the elements from the quest. it was changed when he recently updated the site
yeah, used to be able to select an element, eg Chrysalis and it would bring p [sic] all of them and have their hidden elements listed. Now it goes by strictly the elements of the quest.

odd, i can check that. out of curiosity, is it well established which approach is actually correct these days?
I’m not exactly sure what you’re asking, but I’ll attempt to respond with what I think you’re asking, and hope that’s correct. 😅
The epic quests were changed a year ago. Originally, the hidden primary elements showed with the quest’s name. On the Dear Deca thread, nagini suggested that the epic elements display instead, because players obviously don’t have the hidden elements memorised. Everyone loved this idea, and Deca agreed to change the quests.
It looks like two people from Deca updated the epic quests. One person removed all the primary elements and added only the epic element. The other person left some of the primary elements and added the epic element. And the Galaxy quests were not changed at all. So now we have a mishmash of epic quests.
To complicate the issue, an error was discovered. For the quests with only the epic element, if a player doesn’t have the correct dragon and sends another dragon from the element’s collection, they only win treats. They’re supposed to win one chest, because they matched the element correctly (two chests = correct element and correct dragon). This is not advantageous for new players who don’t have all the dragons.
Deca will need to fix the incorrect payout first, before correcting the remaining epic quests. We’ve given several solutions for Deca to resolve the issue. So far, they haven’t changed the payout problem, so the epic quests remain a hodgepodge of epic + primary elements, epic element only, and primary elements only.
I hope that’s what you’re asking. If not, please enjoy this story about the History of Quests.

the question is, when selecting other dragons to suggest based on the quests elements, should a dragon's hidden elements be considered, or are those strictly for breeding? it seems like they were considered before, which seems weird now. but perhaps it is that way, and i've just forgotten in the years since. e.g. for the quest cold sweat, the ideal dragon is fever. but if you don't have fever, try a dragon with cold + fire. is it reasonable to include rainbow among those suggestions?
